Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can wired Ethernet provide mono Legal duplex output, color Legal feeder scanning and 250 included Legal sheets?
Qualifies with compatible native software and suitable paper. Legal capture uses the 35-page simplex ADF; the glass is shorter.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Legal originals be scanned from the flatbed?
Fails: the exact glass maximum is 11.7 inches long. Legal fits only the simplex feeder.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the output-duplex unit also scan both original sides automatically?
Fails: the original feeder route is simplex. Automatic two-sided printing is a separate function.

The Brother DCP-7065DN is a discontinued monochrome laser print-and-copy machine that also captures documents in color. Its practical fit is a compatible wired desk needing batches of one-sided originals and automatic black two-sided output. It includes USB, Fast Ethernet, a 250-sheet tray and a thirty-five-page automatic document feeder. Telephone fax and built-in wireless are outside this exact configuration.
The distinction matters because the surviving generic product table contains black-and-white scanning, sheetfed styling and telephone-fax rows that conflict with the actual model. The USA/CAN original explicitly documents a color scanner, glass and DCP-7065DN feeder. Those operating specifications are the basis for this assessment, rather than features transferred from an MFC neighbor.
Legal originals use the simplex feeder
The feeder accepts staggered stacks up to thirty-five pages on the stated 20 lb basis. Its original range reaches 8.5 × 14 inches, so it supports ordinary Legal originals. It is a one-sided capture route. Automatic duplex output does not add automatic capture of the reverse side, and no single-pass duplex-scanning capability is established.
The separate glass accepts originals up to 8.5 × 11.7 inches, supporting Letter and A4 rather than Legal. It can capture a book page individually when the feeder is empty. Originals align face down at the indicated corner on the glass; feeder originals load face up. Keep these different routines and maximum lengths in mind when planning a mixture of bound pages and long documents.
Native USB and Ethernet computer capture
The original computer table positively supports native desktop printing and scanning through USB or the installed network interface. Windows Server rows are network-print-only. Appropriate historical drivers and scanning software remain a practical compatibility check; a physical cable connection alone does not establish working software on every present operating system.
Wireless LAN in the shared basic guide applies to HL-2280DW, not this DCP. Similarly, the software guide’s Secure Key routine names particular MFC variants rather than DCP-7065DN. Neither an MFC’s protected-job workflow nor its fax hardware is added here. A thirty-two-megabyte memory and two-line display describe this machine, without implying newer touchscreen or mobile-protocol features.
Included input and automatic output duplex
The ordinary tray holds 250 sheets on the manufacturer’s stated paper basis and accepts Letter, Legal and A4. A separate manual slot handles one sheet at a time, including appropriately prepared envelopes. That slot is useful for occasional special stock, but it is not another full paper tray or an automatic envelope-duplex route.
The exact US automatic two-sided print list includes Letter, Legal and Folio with suitable plain or recycled paper. A4 ordinary input support does not enlarge that regional duplex list. The native driver exposes paper size, media, paper source and duplex controls. Use settings that agree with the actual stock rather than assuming every supported input size can follow every output path.
Speed, supplies and the taller cabinet
One-sided output is rated up to twenty-seven Letter pages per minute for DCP-7065DN. The original separately states automatic duplex speed up to five pages per minute in its own units. These are manufacturer declarations, not measured results, and no recurring monthly recommendation is inferred from them.
The included toner is declared at approximately 700 Letter pages. Replacement TN-420 and TN-450 have different ISO/IEC 19752 yields; the separate DR-420 drum has an approximate 12,000-page declaration that varies with use. The loaded body is 15.95 × 15.7 × 12.45 inches and 25.1 lb, with USA/CAN 110–120 VAC requirements. Allow feeder, glass, paper-path and maintenance access. Work requiring automatic two-sided original capture needs a different feeder-equipped alternative.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact DCP-7065DN up to 27 one-sided Letter ppm, versus DCP-7060D 24. Original automatic duplex declaration separately up to 5 pages/minute Letter, retained in the maker’s original units without relabeling as sheets. No sourced recurring monthly recommendation or maximum duty is asserted.
Paper handling
250-sheet tray at 20 lb / 80 g/m² supports Letter, Legal and A4, with separately fed single-sheet manual slot. Exact US automatic output duplex Letter, Legal and Folio on appropriate 16–28 lb plain/recycled paper. Envelopes use the instructed manual feed; one-at-a-time feed is not another full paper tray.
Scanning arrangement
Exact DCP-7065DN 35-page staggered simplex ADF at 20 lb / 80 g/m² reaches 8.5 × 14 in.; glass maximum 8.5 × 11.7 in. Legal is ADF-only. Original scanner is color/mono, glass optical 600 × 2400 and ADF optical 600 × 600 dpi, separate from 19200 interpolated. Automatic output duplex does not provide automatic original-side capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Included Hi-Speed USB and 10/100 Ethernet; wireless LAN applies only to HL-2280DW in the exact basic table. Native desktop print/scan is positive; Server rows network-print-only. 32 MB and two-line display. No telephone fax hardware or MFC-only Secure Key inherited from the shared software guide.
Supplies and declared yields
Approximately 700-page Letter starter. TN-420 replacement approximately 1,200 and TN-450 approximately 2,600 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 conditions. Separate DR-420 drum approximately 12,000 Letter pages, variable by use. These declarations do not establish current toner cost or remaining drum life.
Software and support
Install compatible Brother print/scan software and choose actual paper, media and duplex settings. The native desktop table supports USB/LAN computer capture; glass uses face-down alignment and an empty ADF, while batch originals load face up in the feeder. Generic product table black/white scan, sheetfed styling and fax rows conflict with exact original hardware and are not adopted.
Electrical edition and setup
USA/CAN original 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Personally viewed body drawing: 15.95 in. wide, 15.7 deep, 12.45 high; exact loaded weight 25.1 lb, not the shorter HL-2280DW. Allow feeder, lid, cassette, rear output, cable and maintenance access; confirm functioning historical native software.
