Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can native Ethernet combine mono Letter duplex, automatic two-sided color capture, glass access, PIN release and 300 included Letter sheets?
Qualifies with compatible native software and suitable originals. Automatic ADF duplex supports Letter/A4; the actual physical capture mechanism is unestablished.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its automatic feeder capture both sides of Legal originals?
Fails: the exact two-sided original range stops at 11.7 in., and the TWAIN operation explicitly excludes Legal duplex.
Explore this need in the finder →Does this DCP provide telephone fax in an all-functions workflow?
Fails: the exact DCP is a printer, copier and scanner without telephone-fax hardware.
Explore this need in the finder →Legal glass does not mean Legal duplex capture
The Brother DCP-8085DN is a discontinued monochrome laser printer and copier with color scanning. Its useful fit is a compatible wired desk that needs native protected jobs, ordinary Letter or A4 automatic two-sided capture and a full Legal glass. It includes a fifty-page feeder and 300 sheets of ordinary input, without telephone-fax hardware.
The deciding limit is the original’s distinction between one-sided and two-sided originals. Both the simplex feeder and glass reach fourteen inches. Automatic two-sided feeder capture instead stops at 11.7 inches. Legal output duplex, Legal glass and a Legal simplex feeder therefore cannot be combined into an invented automatic Legal-duplex scanning route.
The actual computer-scanning routine
The software guide positively documents native TWAIN capture through USB or LAN. The operator selects the actual scanner, opens its settings and enables the duplex checkbox for supported models. The shared guide explicitly excludes the simplex-only DCP-8080DN from that checkbox, while DCP-8085DN is included.
The same instructions prohibit Legal paper for duplex capture. They also prohibit adjusting the scanning area and using PreScan while duplex is selected. These are useful workflow limits for someone planning cropped previews or long two-sided originals. The sources positively establish automatic capture of both sides, but do not establish its physical mechanism, so it is not described as single-pass.
Color capture is separate from monochrome printing and copying. The exact scanner table states different optical values for glass and feeder, distinct again from the larger interpolated declaration. Glass optical resolution reaches 600 × 2400 dpi, compared with 600 × 1200 dpi from the feeder. Generic product-table black-and-white scan, sheetfed styling and fax rows conflict with the operating original and are not adopted.
Native protected jobs on the wired connections
Hi-Speed USB, Fast Ethernet and parallel are included, with historical operating-system restrictions. The computer table supports desktop printing and scanning but treats Windows Server rows as network-print-only. A front flash-memory routine is separate from ordinary computer USB; it does not establish a missing mobile or wireless connection.
Native Secure/Direct release selects the user and stored document, then accepts its four-digit password. The instructions require removing a USB flash drive for this routine. Protected data clears after printing or power-off. Secure Function Lock is a separate access-permission feature, rather than another name for the document-password workflow. Verify a usable native driver before relying on protected release.
Included paper and separate print-duplex sizes
The cassette holds 250 sheets and the multipurpose tray adds fifty on the original 20 lb basis. Both support Letter, Legal and A4. The optional second 250-sheet tray is excluded from the included 300 total. Suitable envelopes use the instructed multipurpose routine, with a separately stated allowance up to three envelopes.
The exact US automatic output-duplex list includes Letter, Legal and Folio. A4 ordinary input does not enlarge that regional list. Published one-sided output is up to thirty-two Letter pages per minute, separately from fourteen printed sides per minute for Letter duplex. These are manufacturer declarations, not personal measurements, and no recurring monthly recommendation is inferred.
Supplies and the loaded cabinet
Replacement TN-620 and TN-650 have different ISO/IEC 19752 yields; the separate DR-620 drum is declared at approximately 25,000 pages with use-dependent life. The cited table does not establish an included-toner yield. No supply figure establishes current cost or remaining life.
The loaded body is 20.9 × 17.8 × 18.7 inches and 40.6 lb, with USA/CAN 110–120 VAC requirements. Leave Legal-lid, feeder, paper-path and maintenance clearance. A workflow requiring unattended two-sided Legal capture needs an alternative with that exact original size positively documented.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 32 one-sided Letter ppm, separately from 14 Letter printed sides per minute automatic duplex. Copy rate is a different declaration. Monthly recommendation and maximum duty remain unknown; neither is inferred from speed or replacement toner.
Paper handling
Included 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet MP tray at 20 lb / 80 g/m² plain-paper basis, both Letter/Legal/A4. Optional second 250 is excluded from base 300. Exact original US output duplex Letter, Legal and Folio; suitable MP envelopes up to 3 use separate feed/output conditions. Ordinary A4 input is not automatic A4 duplex evidence.
Scanning arrangement
50-page staggered ADF on stated 20 lb basis. Simplex ADF and glass both reach 14 in for Legal; automatic two-sided ADF maximum 11.7 in supports Letter/A4, expressly not Legal. Positive automatic duplex mechanism remains unspecified rather than guessed single-pass/reversing. Native TWAIN duplex cannot crop scanning area or use PreScan. Color scan and optical glass/ADF values differ from interpolated 19200 dpi.
Computer and mobile connections
Standard Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet and parallel with exact OS restrictions; 64 MB, five-line display. Native USB/LAN computer print/scan is positive; Server rows network-print-only. No built-in Wi-Fi, AirPrint/Mopria or peer bridge is asserted. Flash direct-print/scan is separate from host-computer USB. No MFC telephone fax transferred.
Supplies and declared yields
TN-620 replacement approximately 3,000 Letter pages and TN-650 approximately 8,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate DR-620 approximately 25,000 Letter pages with use-dependent life. The cited table does not establish included-toner yield, so no starter yield is invented.
Software and support
Native Secure/Direct release selects user and job, then four-digit password. Remove USB flash drive for that routine; data clears after printing or power-off. TWAIN chooses actual USB/LAN scanner and duplex checkbox for supported models; Legal and PreScan are explicitly excluded when duplex is selected. Secure Function Lock permissions differ from document-password release.
Electrical edition and setup
USA/CAN original 110–120 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Exact body 20.9 × 17.8 × 18.7 in., 40.6 lb with drum/toner; DCP-8080DN 39.9 lb is different. Allow Legal-lid, ADF, MP, cassette, rear-output, cable and maintenance access. Confirm usable historical native software and any actual optional tray.
