DCP-8155DNIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office scanning both sides of suitable Legal originals or placing Legal sheets on the glass.

The main tradeoff

Ethernet and USB are included; the machine has no built-in Wi-Fi, and its US automatic print duplex size list excludes A4.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can this earlier Ethernet printer scan both sides of Legal originals in one pass and also accept Legal on its flatbed?

Qualifies: the exact 8155 has both Legal glass and a documented single-pass Legal ADF, plus 300 included print-input sheets. Compatible desktop scanner software remains necessary.

Can I use the standard printer over its own built-in Wi-Fi?

Fails: its standard interfaces are USB and Ethernet. AirPrint through a wireless router uses the printer’s network cable and does not establish a printer Wi-Fi radio.

Can I require automatic two-sided A4 output on the US edition?

Fails: the US automatic-duplex print size list is Letter, Legal and Folio. A4 simplex input and A4 duplex scanning do not extend that print list.

Two useful Legal scanning routes in a wired machine

The Brother DCP-8155DN is an earlier monochrome laser printer and copier whose strongest document-handling argument is its scanner. It captures color, accepts Legal originals on the glass and has a 50-page ADF that scans both sides simultaneously in one pass. For a compatible office digitizing two-sided contracts, that combination avoids choosing between a short flatbed and a feeder with no automatic reverse-side capture.

Its standard computer connections are USB and Ethernet. Plan the network cable, suitable desktop scanner software and physical access before choosing it. Brother marks the model discontinued; its original operating capabilities do not establish present stock or guarantee support for every current operating system. The exact configuration is print, copy and scan, despite stray fax fields in the current generic product table.

What the 8155 suffix adds to the scanning routine

The USA family manual makes the model distinction explicit. The DCP-8155DN column supports automatic duplex scanning, while the neighboring 8110DN and 8150DN columns do not. The exact US product description additionally identifies simultaneous single-pass capture. Those two readings establish the feature without borrowing it from another printer or assuming that automatic two-sided printing implies a two-sided scanner.

Suitable duplex originals can measure 5.8–8.5 in. wide and 5.8–14 in. long. The glass accepts up to 8.5 × 14 in., so a Legal sheet unsuitable for feeder travel has a documented flatbed alternative. Keep the ADF empty when using the glass, fan a suitable loose stack and avoid stapled, damaged or pasted originals. The original Windows scan-to-file procedure exposes separate long-edge and short-edge duplex settings; choose the setting that matches the original document.

Included paper handling and a US duplex restriction

The 250-sheet main cassette and 50-sheet multipurpose tray provide 300 sheets of included print input on the specified 20 lb plain-paper basis. Both routes accept the dimensions needed for Letter, Legal and A4. The optional 500-sheet LT-5400 is a separately purchased expansion. A capacity requirement for the normal printer should therefore use 300, even though an expanded machine can hold more.

The US automatic print-duplex list is narrower than the simplex paper list: it names Letter, Legal and Folio. A4 support in the main tray and A4 two-sided scanning do not prove automatic A4 output. Brother rates the US machine at up to 40 one-sided Letter ppm, with a separate duplex rating of 18 sides or 9 sheets per minute on Letter. Neither number is a scanning rate or a result measured for this article.

AirPrint through Ethernet is a real arrangement

The linked AirPrint guide explicitly shows a printer connected by network cable to a wireless access point/router, with the mobile device on the shared wireless network. That makes AirPrint a supported possibility for this wired model without inventing a built-in radio. It does not make a USB desktop connection an AirPrint connection, or establish Wi-Fi Direct.

Desktop scanning over Ethernet has its own positive support in the USA guide, including driver installation and TCP/IP configuration. The original Server rows are network printing only, so server printing support should not be used as evidence of scanner software. The control-panel Secure Print key releases compatible stored print data using a four-digit password. This is distinct from the scan-destination PIN and administrator user restrictions.

Supplies, body fit and the regional paperwork

The USA 8155 inbox toner declaration is approximately 3000 pages. TN-720 and TN-750 replacement declarations are 3000 and 8000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; DR-720 is a separate drum with an approximate 30000-page declaration at one page per job. These manufacturer figures are not remaining life for an individual machine or a current cost estimate.

Use the actual USA power and dimensions:110–120 V AC, a 19.3 × 16.3 × 17.6 in. body and 36.4 lb with consumables. Allow room for tray extension, document loading and service access. A preserved Australian brochure uses different toner identities and monthly-volume guidance; its printed 6.5 kg weight also conflicts with the US16.5 kg figure. Those regional values are not substituted here. If built-in wireless or color output matters more than Legal scanning, choose a configuration that explicitly supplies those functions.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The USA guide gives up to 40 one-sided Letter ppm and separately 18 duplex sides per minute (9 sheets per minute) on Letter. The preserved Australian 40 ppm A4 sheet describes a different region.

Paper handling

US included 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet MP tray totals 300 at 20 lb plain paper, with Letter/Legal/A4 dimensions supported. Optional 500-sheet LT-5400 is excluded. US automatic duplex supports Letter/Legal/Folio, not A4.

Scanning arrangement

The exact 8155 column confirms a 50-page ADF and automatic duplex original sizes of 5.8–8.5 in. width and 5.8–14 in. length. The US product description establishes simultaneous single-pass capture; the glass accepts up to 8.5 × 14 in. Both color and monochrome scanning are documented.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet support desktop printing and scanning. The AirPrint guide linked from the exact US index permits a wired printer connected to a wireless router; this does not add a printer Wi-Fi radio.

Supplies and declared yields

The USA guide declares approximately 3000 pages for the 8155 inbox toner. TN-720 and TN-750 replacement yields are 3000 and 8000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. DR-720 drum life is around 30000 pages at one page per job. Australian TN3310, TN3340 and DR3325 identities are not US package claims.

Electrical edition and setup

The USA edition uses 110–120 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Its actual US diagram gives 19.3 in. width, 16.3 in. depth and 17.6 in. height; weight is 36.4 lb with consumables. The Australian datasheet prints 6.5 kg, conflicting with the US 16.5 kg figure; that value is not adopted.
