Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can native Ethernet combine color Letter duplex printing, automatic two-sided Letter capture, glass access, PIN release and 300 included sheets?
Qualifies with compatible native software and suitable stock. The automatic ADF route is positively Letter-capable, but its physical method is unestablished.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Legal glass and output duplex establish automatic two-sided Legal capture?
Fails: the actual duplex-scanning operation expressly excludes Legal; Legal originals use simplex ADF or glass.
Explore this need in the finder →Can this DCP satisfy telephone fax as part of all functions?
Fails: the exact scope is print, copy and scan, without telephone-fax hardware.
Explore this need in the finder →Three color functions on a wired reference model
The Brother DCP-9045CDN is an earlier US color laser printer, copier and scanner with USB and Fast Ethernet. Its useful fit is a compatible wired desk needing native protected jobs, color document capture and automatic two-sided Letter originals. It includes Legal glass and a fifty-page feeder, but no telephone fax.
The actual single-model USA/CAN guide is important here. A different DCP or an MFC in the shared software manual can have different feeder or telephone functions. This assessment keeps the exact DCP-9045CDN hardware, ordinary input and computer-scanning arrangement together rather than assembling a larger feature set from neighboring machines.
Letter duplex originals and separate Legal routes
The simplex feeder and separate glass both reach fourteen inches for Legal originals. The original general specification, however, qualifies automatic feeder duplex up to Letter. Its detailed duplex geometry reaches 11.7 inches, but that geometric maximum is not used to enlarge the more specific Letter qualification.
The actual computer operation explicitly prohibits Legal for duplex scanning. It loads originals face up in the feeder, selects two-sided scanning and long- or short-edge binding, then chooses image controls. The same routine excludes PreScan and adjustment of the scanning area. Ordinary individual-original capture has a different preview and crop routine.
Automatic capture of both sides is positively established, but the original does not establish its physical mechanism. It is therefore not described as single-pass. Legal glass or Legal automatic output duplex cannot substitute for a missing automatic Legal original route. Optical glass and feeder resolutions are also separate from the larger interpolated figure.
Native computer capture and protected printing
The original computer table supports compatible desktop printing and scanning through USB or Ethernet, while Windows Server 2003 rows provide network printing only. Confirm working historical software, the actual scanner selection and network arrangement. A front direct-print or PictBridge port is a separate routine from the host-computer USB connection.
Native Secure Key selects a stored user and job before accepting its four-digit password. Protected data clears after printing or power-off. General network security and function permissions are separate from that document-password routine. No wireless radio, native mobile protocol or telephone-fax workflow is inferred from another model or a broad software name.
Included stock and a different copy-speed figure
The cassette holds 250 sheets and the multipurpose tray adds fifty on the stated 20 lb basis, giving 300 included ordinary sheets. Both support Letter, Legal and A4. A further 500-sheet lower tray is optional. Suitable envelopes have a separate multipurpose allowance up to three; the exact US primary says there is no face-up straight paper path, so that path is not borrowed from another printer.
The original automatic output-duplex list includes Letter, A4, Legal and Folio. Native settings and suitable media still matter. One-sided print speed is declared up to twenty-one Letter pages per minute in both black and color, whereas the copy declaration is up to seventeen. Duplex print sides are another quantity. These manufacturer declarations are not personal measurements or a basis for inventing a monthly recommendation.
Supplies and the process-unit weight distinction
Standard TN-110 and high-yield TN-115 replacements have different five-percent Letter coverage declarations. Separate drum, belt and waste-toner items have their own conditions; the waste declaration also specifies coverage for each CMYK color. Included-toner yield is not established by the cited table, and no original yield determines current cost or remaining life.
The body is 20.9 × 21.2 × 20.5 inches. The US primary’s 83.2 lb explicitly includes the process unit, whereas the original guide’s 72.8 lb excludes drum and toner. US power is 110–120 VAC. Leave Legal-lid, feeder, paper-path and maintenance clearance. Unattended two-sided Legal capture requires a differently documented alternative.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 21 one-sided Letter ppm in both mono and color from ordinary/optional trays. Print duplex separately up to 7 sides/minute; original parenthetical 3.5 pages/min retained without relabeling. Copy separately up to 17 Letter ppm, not 21. No monthly recommendation or duty figure inferred.
Paper handling
250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet MP at 20 lb / 80 g/m² supports Letter/Legal/A4, total 300. Optional lower 500 excluded. Exact original 165 output duplex Letter, A4, Legal, Folio. Appropriate MP envelopes up to 3 use separate handling; exact US primary says no face-up/straight paper path, so a rear-output routine is not borrowed from another model.
Scanning arrangement
Exact 50-page staggered ADF; simplex ADF and separate glass both reach 14 in. Original 163 qualifies duplex up to Letter; 166–167 gives duplex maximum 11.7 in. Only Letter positively modeled for automatic ADF without enlarging exact Letter restriction. Actual native duplex operation explicitly no Legal, no PreScan, no adjustable scan area. Physical method unspecified, not claimed single-pass. Color optical glass 1200 × 2400/ADF1200 × 600 distinct from 19,200 interpolated.
Computer and mobile connections
Standard Hi-Speed USB and 10/100 Ethernet,128 MB expandable 640 MB, five-line display, PCL6/BR-Script. Native desktop USB/Ethernet print+scan positive; Server 2003 rows network-print-only. Direct flash/PictBridge is separate from host computer USB. Exact three-function scope excludes fax; no built-in Wi-Fi/mobile-protocol bridge asserted.
Supplies and declared yields
TN-110BK standard replacement 2,500 and TN-110C/M/Y 1,500; TN-115BK high-yield 5,000 and TN-115C/M/Y 4,000 on 5% Letter coverage, not relabeled ISO. Separate DR-110CL approximately 17,000; BU-100CL approximately 50,000 Letter pages; WT-100CL approximately 20,000 with 5% CMYK each. Included-toner yield unestablished.
Software and support
Native Windows Secure Key selects user/job and four-digit password; data clears after printing or power-off. TWAIN duplex loads face-up ADF and selects long-/short-edge binding, then original image controls; Legal, cropping and PreScan unavailable. Native ordinary capture permits individual preview/crop separately. Compatible historical software and actual scanner selection remain necessary.
Electrical edition and setup
USA/CAN original 110–120 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Exact body 20.9 × 21.2 × 20.5 in.; US primary 83.2 lb WITH process unit, not original 72.8 lb WITHOUT drum/toner. Leave full Legal-lid, ADF, MP, cassette, cable and service access. Confirm historical native software and actual optional lower tray rather than counting photographed accessories.
