Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can it scan a one-sided Legal stack in color and duplex-print Legal over Ethernet with 250 included sheets?
Qualifies using a compatible network desktop scanner driver and the ADF. The Legal scan route is simplex; Legal print duplex is a separate supported routine.
Explore this need in the finder →Will it automatically capture both sides of my A4 originals in the feeder?
Fails: this exact DCP’s duplex-scanning entry is No. Automatic print duplex does not add a two-sided scanner.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I scan a Legal original flat on the glass?
Fails: the glass is limited to 8.5 × 11.8 inches. Legal is supported by the simplex ADF, not the flatbed.
Explore this need in the finder →Three office functions with useful connection choices
The Brother DCP-L2540DW suits a compatible computer that needs monochrome laser printing, ordinary copying and color document capture. USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi provide distinct connection choices, while the 35-sheet feeder reduces handling for one-sided stacks. The deciding tradeoff is on the scanning side: automatic two-sided printing is included, but the ADF scans only one side of an original at a time.
Brother identifies this exact model as discontinued. It remains a useful earlier equipment reference, without a claim about current availability or compatibility with every new operating system. The DCP is a three-function machine, with no fax. Color scanning and a color scan file do not change the printer’s monochrome output scope.
Legal documents belong in the feeder
The ADF holds up to 35 sheets on the stated 20 lb paper basis and accepts originals up to 8.5 × 14 inches. That supports one-sided Legal documents as well as ordinary Letter and A4 pages. The glass is smaller, at a maximum 8.5 × 11.8 inches, so a Legal flatbed requirement is different and does not fit this model.
The exact product record explicitly lists duplex scanning as unavailable. Two-sided originals therefore require manual handling rather than an automatic duplex scan route. A two-sided copy made from separate one-sided pages is also not evidence of a duplex feeder. For regular front-and-back document capture, choose an exact model with a positively documented automatic two-sided ADF.
Print duplex has its own size limits
The included cassette holds up to 250 sheets of 20 lb / 80 g/m² plain paper and supports Letter, Legal and A4. A separate one-sheet manual feed provides a documented route for suitable envelopes and heavier media. Its straight-through envelope instructions use the rear output and appropriate lever positions; leave room behind the printer and follow the actual media setting.
The US automatic print-duplex list is Letter, Legal and Folio. A4 simplex paper support should not be promoted into A4 automatic duplex merely because a related regional model supports it. The maker’s one-sided Letter rating is up to 30 ppm, while automatic Letter duplex is separately rated at up to 15 sides, or 7.5 sheets, per minute. None of those figures is a measured result from testing here.
Desktop scanning and mobile printing need the right setup
The original basic guide explains saving scans with ControlCenter 4 and choosing a destination computer when the machine is on a network. It separately addresses USB, wired-network and wireless-network scanning problems. That supports actual desktop print-and-scan arrangements on those connections, with compatible scanner software installed. The original Server operating-system rows provide network printing rather than full desktop scanning.
AirPrint appears in the exact product features, and Wi-Fi Direct is separately specified. These do not establish every scan option in every mobile app. The ordinary network desktop scan arrangement is therefore kept distinct from the peer-printing route. Mopria is not established from the read exact sources. Confirm the driver and intended connection rather than treating every software menu as proof of every function.
Workload, consumables and the correct US power edition
Brother recommends 250–2,000 printed pages per month and separately declares a 10,000-page maximum duty cycle. The maximum is not a recommended routine workload. The original guide identifies TN-630 at approximately 1,200 pages and TN-660 at 2,600 under ISO/IEC 19752, with a separate DR-630 drum declaration of approximately 12,000 pages at one page per job. These are supply conditions, not current costs or remaining-life estimates.
The exact US support specification states 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. That is the appropriate regional source here; the current product record’s conflicting generic 100–240 V field should not be used to promise universal-voltage operation. The body is 16.1 × 15.7 × 12.5 inches and the loaded weight 24.5 lb. Allow paper-loading and service space. Choose it for monochrome output and simplex document capture; require a different documented feeder for automatic two-sided originals.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 30 one-sided Letter ppm. Automatic duplex is separately rated at up to 15 sides / 7.5 sheets per minute on Letter. No A4 one-sided figure is substituted for the Letter field.
Paper handling
Main cassette: 250 sheets of 20 lb / 80 g/m² plain paper, including Letter/Legal/A4 sizes. Separate one-sheet manual feed handles suitable envelopes. US automatic print-duplex sizes are Letter, Legal and Folio; A4 is not established by that media list.
Scanning arrangement
35-sheet simplex ADF on the stated 20 lb paper basis, accepting up to 8.5 × 14 in. Glass maximum is 8.5 × 11.8 in. Color capture does not mean color printing. Exact product record explicitly says no duplex scanning.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi Direct is separately documented. AirPrint appears in exact product features; Mopria is unestablished in the read model sources.
Supplies and declared yields
Original guide declares TN-630 approximately 1,200 pages and TN-660 approximately 2,600 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate DR-630 drum approximately 12,000 pages at one page per job. No unsupported starter quantity is assigned.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US support specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz, overriding the product record’s inconsistent generic 100–240 V field. Loaded weight 24.5 lb; body 16.1 × 15.7 × 12.5 in. Recommended monthly range 250–2,000 is distinct from 10,000 maximum duty.
