Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the earlier FAX-5750e scan loose Legal originals in monochrome over USB with 500 sheets of Legal input?
Yes, with compatible local desktop scanner and printer software. Both included cassettes can be set to Legal; feeder capacity remains conditional.

No. The exact scanner is monochrome.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I leave a two-sided print job to finish without reloading paper?
No. The actual driver duplex routine requires manual stack refeeding.

The Brother FAX-5750e is an earlier fax-oriented office machine with more computer capability than a basic standalone fax. The exact package includes two paper cassettes and an Ethernet Print/Fax Server, while the original guide establishes monochrome desktop scanning as standard on this model. It is useful to assess for an existing installation that needs fax, copying, printing and loose-page capture. The deciding tradeoff is document versatility: there is no flatbed or color scanner, and two-sided printed work requires manual paper refeeding.
Brother marks the exact US model discontinued. The surviving instructions describe its intended configuration, rather than establishing current stock or a working driver for every modern computer. Confirm the installed accessories and usable software before planning a replacement workflow around an individual unit.
The second cassette belongs to this package
The FAX-5750e provides two 250-sheet cassettes, for 500 included sheets on the stated plain-paper basis. In the shared manual, the second cassette is optional for FAX-4750e; that qualification should not strip the included tray from FAX-5750e. The cassette settings allow Letter, Legal or A4 to be assigned to each feed. This can support separate everyday and longer-paper supplies, or a larger reserve when both use the same stock.
The lower cassette must be correctly positioned and connected by its modular cable. Brother also warns that the machine and lower cassette are not mechanically attached when being moved. A loose lower tray should not be treated as a securely fastened base merely because it is part of the normal package.
A manual slot handles suitable envelopes or special sheets one at a time without emptying a cassette. The driver’s duplex procedure prints one group of pages, pauses and asks the user to reload the stack before printing the other faces. That is appropriate for occasional attended work, rather than an automatic two-sided output promise.
Feeder capture is monochrome and software-dependent
The original establishes a thirty-page ordinary feeder limit with a conditional fifty-page capacity. The exact US page states fifty with its paper, temperature and humidity qualifications. Plan batches around those conditions and the actual original stock rather than assuming that every stack will reach the headline capacity. Loose documents through Legal length fit the documented feed route; bound pages need a different scanner.
The model’s TWAIN scanner is monochrome. The large interpolated resolution number is separate from the stated 300 by 600 dpi optical resolution. The documented MFL-Pro routine can save a captured document into a chosen folder and file type. It is therefore more than fax-only capture, but it remains dependent on suitable software and a supported local computer arrangement.
Network printing does not automatically establish network scanning
USB and parallel are documented local interfaces. The included NC-8100h is explicitly named a Print/Fax Server, providing positive evidence for Ethernet printing. These read sources do not establish the same computer-scanning routine through that board. The assessment therefore keeps local USB capture separate from network printing instead of combining them into an unsupported all-function Ethernet workflow.
Conventional fax still needs a suitable telephone connection and receive-mode setup. The 33,600-bit-per-second modem and short advertised transmission time do not guarantee an identical result on every line or receiving machine. Check the telephone service separately from the computer and network connections.
Supply and cabinet differences need the exact original
The packing list includes a standard toner cartridge rated up to 3,000 pages. TN-430 replacement toner has that declaration, while TN-460 is up to 6,000 Letter/A4 pages at five percent coverage. The separate DR-400 drum has a declaration of up to 20,000 pages with usage conditions. These ratings do not establish the remaining life of supplies in a particular machine.
The original distinguishes the taller FAX-5750e cabinet from FAX-4750e, while the US web table presents the shorter dimensions; verify the actual dual-cassette footprint before placing it. The US/Canada edition requires 120 V AC. Compare a documented color flatbed multifunction model when the work includes bound or color originals, or an automatic duplex printer when unattended two-sided output is essential.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original printer declaration: up to 15 one-sided Letter pages per minute from cassette. Copy rate and fax timing are separate. Recommended monthly volume unknown.
Paper handling
Two included 250-sheet cassettes support Letter/Legal/A4 on the stated plain-stock basis; separate one-sheet manual feed. Lower cassette is optional only for FAX-4750e. Driver output duplex requires manual refeeding.
Scanning arrangement
Monochrome simplex feeder with no flatbed. Original states 30 ordinary pages / 50 with conditions; exact US fifty-page claim has paper/environment qualifications. Local TWAIN computer capture is standard for FAX-5750e.
Computer and mobile connections
USB and parallel local interfaces; NC-8100h 10/100 Ethernet Print/Fax Server included. Read source does not establish network computer scanning, so that function remains unknown in Ethernet plan.
Supplies and declared yields
Packing list includes standard toner up to 3,000 pages. TN-430 replacement up to 3,000 and TN-460 up to 6,000 Letter/A4 pages at 5% coverage. DR-400 drum up to 20,000 pages, subject to use.
Electrical edition and setup
US/Canada edition: 120 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Original FAX-5750e body 17.1 × 17.4 × 17 in. conflicts with web 17.1 × 17.4 × 12.7; numeric height remains unknown. Original 34.3 lb without carton versus web 31.1 lb; loaded basis unresolved, so weight remains unknown.
