HL-1250Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible USB desktops needing basic mono printing and occasional manually fed envelopes.

The main tradeoff

Manual duplex and optional networking limit unattended or shared-network routines.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible USB desktop print mono Letter documents with 250 included sheets and a declared twelve-ppm Letter rate?

Yes. The actual guide explicitly identifies Letter/A4 for the cassette capacity and twelve-ppm declaration; use a working compatible local driver.

Will it turn pages automatically for two-sided printing?

No. The documented routine prints one side and requires the user to reload the pages.

Is Ethernet included without an optional print server?

No. NC-2010P is a separate external network option through parallel.

A local printer with a more capable controller than its siblings

The Brother HL-1250 is a discontinued monochrome laser reference for a compatible local computer that needs ordinary documents and occasional special-media output. It includes a 250-sheet cassette, a one-sheet manual feed, USB and parallel. Its limits are straightforward: networking and a lower cassette are optional, and two-sided output requires the user to turn and reload pages.

The actual shared guide distinguishes this model from HL-1030 and HL-1240. HL-1250 has four megabytes of standard memory, expandable with a suitable optional SIMM, and PCL6, Epson FX-850 and IBM Proprinter emulations. Those features belong to its own column; the shared cover does not make all three controllers identical.

Start by confirming a working local driver

The original USB section specifically names Windows 98 and appropriate USB-equipped Macintosh systems. The later exact web reference lists further historical operating-system branches. Neither is evidence that an arbitrary current desktop can install the printer without a compatible working driver.

The optional NC-2010P is an external print-server arrangement through parallel. It is not an included Ethernet port or a wireless radio. The optional serial-interface board is also separate hardware. A standard buying match therefore uses the confirmed USB route rather than assuming that every expansion described in the guide is installed.

This is print-only equipment. It has no document glass, original feeder, standalone copying or fax mechanism. A generic automatic-email-printing software name describes work arriving at a computer; it does not establish AirPrint, Mopria or a standalone network-scanning function.

A cassette for ordinary pages, one sheet for special jobs

The source capacity table explicitly qualifies approximately 250 sheets with eighty-gram Letter/A4 paper. Legal is an accepted US/Canadian cassette size, but that specific table does not establish a 250-sheet Legal stack. The questionnaire therefore keeps the exact-size capacity distinction instead of automatically copying the ordinary headline into every paper size.

The manual slot accepts suitable envelopes, labels, thicker sheets and other documented sizes one at a time. Select the manual source in the driver, submit the job and insert the sheet as directed. It is a single feed position, not another ordinary paper tray that adds a meaningful stack to standard capacity.

The optional lower tray can hold another 250 suitable sheets and has its own supported-size list. It remains outside included capacity. The body and setup of an actual expanded unit should be checked separately from an unmodified printer.

Manual duplex remains a hands-on paper routine

The original Windows procedure prints the even-numbered pages first. The user removes them, follows the instructed orientation and puts them back for the odd-numbered pages. It provides separate cassette and manual-slot routines, with warnings about curling, double feeding and inserting the paper in the correct order.

The manual specifically tells users to remove ordinary unprinted paper before reloading a printed stack. That is a practical difference from automatic duplex: the paper supply and user attention become part of each two-sided job. A duplex option in the software does not create a motorized two-sided output path.

The declared speed is up to twelve one-sided pages per minute on Letter or A4 from the cassette. The original qualifies maximum speed with repeated copies of the same page and notes effects from the interface, emulation, computer, memory and graphics. It supplies no numeric recommended monthly volume.

Supplies and a regional body measurement

The exact US reference names TN-430 toner at three thousand A4 pages and TN-460 at six thousand, at five-percent coverage. The original also qualifies replacement toner using Letter/A4 at that coverage. DR-400 is a separate drum, declared up to twenty thousand pages with job-length conditions. A supplied-toner yield is not established.

The US/Canadian Legal-cassette configuration is 14.2 inches wide, 16.9 deep and 9.3 high; the A4-cassette body is shorter. Its US power branch is 110–120 V, 50/60 Hz. Loaded-weight declarations differ between exact web and original, so that value remains unknown. An included-network automatic-duplex printer is the useful alternative when those routines dominate the workload.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 12 one-sided Letter/A4 ppm from cassette. Maximum uses repeated copies of same page; interface, emulation, computer, memory and graphics can change throughput. No numerical recommended monthly volume established.

Paper handling

250-sheet capacity expressly qualified for 80 g/m² Letter/A4. Legal accepted in US/Canada, exact 250-sheet Legal capacity not established by that table. Single-sheet manual feed; optional lower 250 excluded. Duplex requires manually reloading printed pages.

Computer and mobile connections

Own 1250 controller: 4 MB, expandable to 36 MB, PCL6/Epson/IBM emulation. Standard USB and parallel. NC-2010P external print server and RS-100M serial board optional. Original USB requires its compatible Windows 98/Macintosh driver branch.

Supplies and declared yields

US reference: TN-430 3,000 / TN-460 6,000 A4 pages at 5% coverage; original also states Letter/A4 at 5%. Separate DR-400 up to 20,000 pages with job conditions. Supplied yield unknown.

Electrical edition and setup

US/Canada Legal-cassette body 14.2 W × 16.9 D × 9.3 H inches; A4 cassette depth differs. US/Canada power 110–120 V, 50/60 Hz. Loaded weights conflict: web 20.3 lb versus original 20.9 lb, both including drum/toner; value left unknown.
