HL-1435Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible local desk accepting operator-reloaded two-sided output and occasional manual envelope feeding, without network or capture essentials.

The main tradeoff

Duplex is manual and Ethernet optional. The US/Canada body is 16.9 inches deep; the shorter 14.6-inch overseas figure is not this edition.

Your needs, this model

A local GDI printer with a small fixed memory

The Brother HL-1435 is a discontinued dedicated monochrome laser printer for a compatible local desk that accepts manual two-sided work. It includes USB, parallel and a 250-sheet cassette, with four megabytes of memory and no documented expansion. Its useful fit is ordinary black documents without scanning, copying, fax or included networking requirements.

This exact model has its own operating guide. HL-1450’s PCL or BR-Script features and expandable controller should not be transferred merely because the product numbers are close. HL-1435 uses its documented GDI arrangement and historical software. A usable driver for the intended computer remains a practical requirement before its hardware can provide the expected workflow.

Manual duplex means physically reloading the paper

The original operation selects Duplex in the native driver, chooses the actual paper and media settings, and prints even-numbered pages first. The operator then reloads the stock according to the instructed orientation before the remaining sides print. The driver’s Duplex label therefore does not mean an automatic two-sided paper path.

Manual-slot duplex similarly handles sheets in sequence and requires straightening previously printed paper. The guide discourages very thin or thick stock for this process. Its appendix also excludes the manual-duplex feature on Mac OS X10.2, illustrating why an operating-system name in the broad compatibility table does not establish every advanced control.

Ordinary capacity and occasional envelopes

The cassette holds 250 sheets on the original 80 g/m² basis and accepts Letter, Legal and A4. A separate manual slot feeds one sheet at a time for suitable envelopes and other special stock. That occasional feed is not another full tray, nor does its custom-size range establish a missing automatic duplex mechanism.

The original envelope and thicker-stock instructions use their specified feed and output arrangements. Keep the stock straight, match the driver media setting and leave the relevant paper path accessible. For a workflow that continually changes between ordinary paper and individual envelopes, consider the real handling effort rather than counting the manual slot as unattended capacity.

Reprinting is different from confidentiality

Job Spooling permits a document to be reprinted with the control-panel button without sending it again from the computer. The driver can disable this reprint behavior. That convenience is not evidence of a password-protected release workflow, so no native PIN capability is asserted.

The separately named Page Protection setting reserves memory to construct a complete page image before physical printing. It concerns processing complex pages rather than document confidentiality. With the fixed memory configuration, settings and document complexity can matter; the cited instructions do not establish a measured throughput for every kind of job.

Letter speed and optional connections

The actual appendix refines the web’s unqualified speed headline: up to fifteen one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately from fourteen A4 pages. These are manufacturer declarations, not personal measurements. No recurring monthly recommendation or duty figure is inferred from speed.

Ethernet requires an optional NC-2100p server, while infrared is another separate option with its own operating-system restrictions. These options are excluded from the included USB arrangement. The fact that a parallel interface is also present does not establish that any modern USB adapter or operating system reproduces every native function.

US body depth and original supply declarations

The US/Canada body is 14.2 × 16.9 × 9.3 inches and 20.3 lb with drum and toner. The shorter 14.6-inch depth belongs to other-country editions. US operation specifies 110–120 VAC; leave the instructed ventilation gap and paper-path access.

Replacement toner declarations use five-percent A4/Letter coverage, with different standard and high-yield amounts. The separate drum assumes one page per job. Included yield and exact local order codes remain unestablished. These original declarations do not establish current supply cost or remaining life.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Actual original Appendix A-1 positively states up to 15 one-sided Letter ppm and 14 A4 ppm, refining unqualified web 15. First-page declaration is separate and from standard tray. No recurring monthly recommendation or maximum duty is established.

Paper handling

250-sheet cassette at 80 g/m² supports Letter, Legal, A4. Separate manual slot one sheet at a time for suitable special stock/envelopes; not a second full tray. Original manual duplex prints evens then requires correct reinsertion; not automatic. Original appendix says manual duplex unavailable on Mac OS X 10.2. Media/path and straightening instructions remain.

Scanning arrangement

Dedicated mono laser printer without scanner, ADF, copy or telephone-fax hardware. Local blank-paper manual feed does not capture an original.

Computer and mobile connections

Standard USB and IEEE1284 parallel; 4 MB memory with expansion N/A, GDI, not HL-1450 PCL/BR-Script. NC-2100p Ethernet and IR-1000 infrared optional with exact OS restrictions; no included network route. Mac network utility support must not be assumed from Windows option listing.

Supplies and declared yields

Original standard replacement approximately 3,000 and high-yield approximately 6,000 A4/Letter pages at 5% coverage. Separate drum approximately 20,000 pages at one page per job. No ISO label, exact local order code, included yield, current supply cost or remaining life is inferred.

Software and support

Native driver selects actual media, size/source and manual duplex; operator reloads stock after first sides. Ordinary Job Spooling permits button reprint and can be disabled in driver; not established password protection. Page Protection reserves memory to create a full-page image and is separate from confidentiality. Confirm actual usable historical driver and interface.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US/Canada/Latin America body 14.2 × 16.9 × 9.3 in., 20.3 lb including drum/toner. Other-country 14.6 in depth is explicitly different. US/Canada operation 110–120 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Original ventilation gap approximately 4 in.; allow manual/rear-output, cassette, cable and maintenance access.
