Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can native USB print mono Legal pages with 250 included sheets and a declared 15 Letter ppm?
Qualifies with compatible legacy software and appropriate paper. The Letter figure comes from the exact original model table, rather than an unlabeled speed headline.

Fails: the actual driver routine requires manual refeeding. Automatic print duplex is expressly absent.

Fails: 250 sheets are included. The second 250-sheet cassette is optional, so its capacity is not counted as standard.
Explore this need in the finder →A legacy printer with model-specific controller support
The Brother HL-1450 is a discontinued monochrome laser printer with USB and parallel interfaces. Its useful fit is a compatible legacy application that needs the exact model's page-description languages and ordinary black output. It includes a 250-sheet cassette, eight megabytes of memory and no scanning, copying or fax hardware. Automatic two-sided output and included networking are different requirements.
The original controller table gives HL-1450 PCL6, PostScript Level II language emulation, Epson FX-850 and IBM Proprinter XL support. Its memory can expand to thirty-six megabytes. These are meaningful distinctions from simpler family members, but they do not make every driver function identical across Windows, Macintosh and PostScript-emulation branches.
Included connections and optional additions
USB and IEEE 1284 parallel are standard. The NC-2010p external 10BaseT print server is optional; the shared guide's HL-1470N has a different standard networking configuration. The base HL-1450 therefore does not satisfy a requirement for included Ethernet. An accessory listed in the family manual is not automatically inside the box.
The original software examples describe an earlier operating-system generation. Confirm a usable driver and the required application features on the actual host before relying on an old unit. AirPrint, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct and native protected PIN release remain unestablished in the exact readings. A generic utility or broad software label cannot fill those gaps.
Manual duplex and a real base capacity
The cassette holds 250 sheets on the stated 80 g/m² basis, with a separate single-sheet manual slot. The USA/Canada paper branch accepts Legal as well as Letter and A4. Suitable envelopes follow the manual-feed instructions, including their media settings and paper path. They do not become part of an automatic two-sided envelope routine.
Two-sided output is manual. The driver prints even pages first, then the operator reloads the stack in the specified orientation before printing odd pages. The guide also gives a separate sheet-by-sheet manual-feed sequence. This is workable only if that intervention is acceptable. It fails a requirement for automatic duplex, even though the completed pages may be two-sided.
An extra 250-sheet cassette is an optional addition. The advertised expanded 500-sheet arrangement is therefore excluded from the base included capacity. This differs from a package whose second tray is explicitly supplied, and it matters when the goal is fewer refills without purchasing or locating another component.
Letter speed and older supply declarations
The original specification explicitly states up to fifteen pages per minute with Letter paper loaded. That resolves the paper-size ambiguity in the surviving product page's shorter speed headline. It is a maker declaration, not a personal timing result. No exact recommended monthly volume is established in the read sources, so speed is not used to invent one.
The original replacement toner figures are approximately 3,000 standard or 6,000 high-yield A4/Letter pages at five-percent coverage. The separate drum declaration is approximately 20,000 pages at one page per job. These older conditions are retained rather than relabeled as ISO yields. They do not establish inbox toner, current cost or remaining life. The surviving page's generic four-toner cell conflicts with its monochrome identity and is excluded.
Body, power and the deciding requirement
The original lists a 14.2 × 14.6 × 9.3-inch body and approximately 20.3 lb including toner and drum for this model. Leave room for Legal-paper handling, loading, rear output, cables and maintenance. The exact US product specifies 120 VAC, 60 Hz; verify the actual rating plate because other regional electrical editions also exist.
If a working legacy application needs these exact emulations, the documented controller is the reason to consider it. If automatic duplex, standard networking or a scanner is essential, compare a model explicitly including that function instead of expecting the optional accessories or shared manual to change this base configuration.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original exact family table explicitly rates HL-1450 up to 15 pages/minute with Letter paper loaded. No numerical recommended monthly volume or maximum duty established in the read exact sources. Driver resolution branches and first-print time are separate from sustained page rate.
Paper handling
250-sheet cassette at stated 80 g/m² basis plus one-sheet manual slot. USA/Canada cassette supports Legal, Letter and A4. Optional extra 250-sheet cassette is not part of the base capacity. Suitable envelopes follow the manual-feed routine. Two-sided output uses explicit even-page/refeed/odd-page instructions, not automatic duplex.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB and IEEE 1284 parallel. Exact HL-1450 has 8 MB expandable to 36 MB, PCL6, PostScript Level II language emulation, Epson FX-850 and IBM Proprinter XL. Optional NC-2010p 10BaseT differs from standard network hardware on HL-1470N. AirPrint, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct and protected PIN release are unestablished.
Supplies and declared yields
Original replacement toner declarations approximately 3,000 standard or 6,000 high-yield A4/Letter pages at 5% coverage; separate drum approximately 20,000 A4/Letter pages at one page per job. These are not substituted ISO declarations. Exact supplied toner yield remains unestablished; contaminated four-toner generic web cell is excluded.
Electrical edition and setup
Original body 14.2 × 14.6 × 9.3 in.; HL-1450 loaded weight approximately 20.3 lb, distinct from HL-1470N 20.5 lb. Exact US product specifies 120 VAC, 60 Hz, and original positioning separately distinguishes 110–120 V from 220–240 V editions. Check the actual rating plate, Legal-tray operating extension and usable driver; allow loading and service clearance.
