HL-2070NIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible earlier desktop or wired network needing black documents from a compact printer with included Ethernet.

The main tradeoff

Automatic duplex and standard Wi-Fi are absent; NC-2200w wireless is an optional accessory and the original software list needs checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can compatible included Ethernet handle monochrome Legal output with 250 sheets and a 20 Letter ppm requirement?

Qualifies for one-sided native printing with compatible software and suitable media. Ethernet is included on exact HL-2070N; the 20 ppm figure is one-sided Letter output.

Can the native driver meet an automatic duplex requirement?

Fails: the documented two-sided routine prints one face and asks the operator to refeed sheets. That is manual duplex.

Is Wi-Fi supplied in the standard printer?

Fails: the NC-2200w wireless unit is optional. Included Ethernet does not turn the standard configuration into a wireless model.

Ethernet is part of this exact older printer

The Brother HL-2070N is a discontinued monochrome laser printer with included 10/100 Ethernet. That is its useful distinction within the original family: a compatible wired network can send black documents without adding the optional Ethernet accessory needed by another model. It also includes Full-Speed USB and parallel hardware.

The exact controller has 16 MB memory with PCL6, Epson and IBM emulations. None of those output languages provides original capture; this is a printer without a scanner, copier or fax. It is most reasonably assessed as an earlier-platform reference for a known compatible computer or wired network.

Two-sided printing needs an operator

The original manual duplex operation first prints the even-numbered pages, then asks the user to put the sheets back in the specified orientation before printing the odd pages. It provides separate cassette and manual-feed routines. For a multi-page packet, that means preserving the printed sheet order and following the specified orientation before restarting the second-face stage; the job still needs someone at the machine. This is useful software assistance but not automatic duplex hardware, so it does not meet a requirement for unattended two-sided output.

Appropriate plain or recycled paper and careful reloading matter. The instructions warn about curled stock, feeding problems and unsuitable paper, and exclude bond paper from that manual two-sided routine. A driver option labeled duplex therefore needs to be read together with its actual operating steps instead of being promoted into an automatic feature.

Paper capacity uses its stated basis

The cassette holds up to 250 sheets on the source's stated 80 g/m² / 21 lb basis. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 are supported in the exact US configuration. A one-sheet manual path accommodates suitable envelopes and other listed stock, while transparencies have a separate up-to-ten-sheet qualification. Those media limits should not be replaced by the plain-paper stack rating.

Brother rates one-sided output up to twenty Letter or A4 pages per minute. The read sources do not establish a numerical recurring monthly recommendation or maximum duty figure. Neither the tray size nor the engine rate is converted into an invented monthly workload or an automatic duplex speed.

Optional wireless and original software boundaries

The NC-2200w 802.11b wireless unit is optional. Its presence in the specification does not qualify the standard printer for Wi-Fi, and an optional NC-2100p Ethernet entry belongs to a different family configuration. The HL-2070N already has its wired network interface. AirPrint, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct and native PIN-held release remain unestablished in the precise material read.

Original driver lists include systems from the machine's period. The USB footnote explicitly excludes Windows 95 and NT 4.0 even though other printing arrangements are listed for those systems. Check usable software for the actual computer and connection, rather than assuming every function applies to every operating-system row or later machine.

Supplies and a compact physical installation

The exact US specification declares approximately 1,500 starter toner pages and 2,500 standard pages at five-percent A4/Letter coverage; the original qualifies starter allocation by model and country. These are not silently relabeled as ISO yields. The separate drum declaration is approximately 12,000 pages at one page per job under its conditions, without a guessed neighboring cartridge SKU or current running-cost claim.

The body measures 14.6 × 14.2 × 6.5 inches and weighs 14.3 lb including toner and drum. The original gives a US/Canada range of 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz, distinct from other regional voltages. Leave manual-feed, cassette, output, cable and service room beyond the low closed cabinet, and check the actual earlier unit's paper supports, supplies and condition before depending on it.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact source rates up to 20 one-sided Letter or A4 ppm. No numerical recurring monthly recommendation or maximum duty is established. Manual duplex requires operator handling and is not assigned an invented automatic output rate.

Paper handling

250-sheet cassette and single-sheet manual feed on the stated 80 g/m² / 21 lb capacity basis. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 supported in the exact US configuration. Suitable envelopes use manual feed; transparencies have a separate up-to-ten-sheet condition. Two-sided output is manual refeeding, not automatic duplex.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Full-Speed USB 2.0, IEEE1284 parallel hardware and 10/100 Ethernet, with 16 MB memory and PCL6/Epson/IBM emulations. NC-2200w 802.11b wireless is optional, not built-in. NC-2100p optional Ethernet branch belongs to another model because HL-2070N already includes Ethernet. AirPrint, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct and native PIN release remain unestablished.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact US specification declares approximately 1,500 starter and 2,500 standard A4/Letter toner pages at 5% coverage; original qualifies starter by model/country. This is not relabeled as an ISO test. Separate drum approximately 12,000 pages at one page per job under its usage conditions; no cartridge SKU is guessed from neighboring models.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact body 14.6 × 14.2 × 6.5 in. and 14.3 lb including drum and toner. Original US/Canada supply range 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz, distinct from 220–240 V regional versions. Leave manual-feed, cassette, output, cable and service access; original USB is unsupported under Windows 95/NT4.0 and usable software for the intended computer must be checked.
