HL-2170WIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible existing setup needing ordinary black network output in a compact body and accepting manual two-sided handling.

The main tradeoff

Wired and wireless networking cannot operate simultaneously. Automatic duplex and native protected PIN printing are absent.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Wi-Fi print mono Legal pages with 250 included sheets and 23 Letter ppm?

Qualifies with compatible native software and appropriate paper. This uses the wireless arrangement with wired networking inactive; it does not include automatic duplex.

Can I make automatic two-sided output essential?

Fails: the exact routine is manual duplex, requiring the operator to reload printed sheets.

Can supported jobs wait for PIN release?

Fails: the exact US specification lists Secure Print as N/A. A wireless security setting is a different function.

Compact network printing for an existing setup

The Brother HL-2170W is an earlier monochrome laser printer with USB, wired Ethernet and ordinary Wi-Fi. It fits a compatible existing system that needs black output and a compact 250-sheet cassette, while accepting manual two-sided handling. It is print-only: no scanner, copier or fax hardware is included. A current software or network requirement still needs checking on the actual unit.

The exact controller has thirty-two megabytes of memory and PCL6 support. Its shared guide also covers HL-2140 and HL-2150N, whose memory and interface configurations differ. The W model's radio is real included hardware, but it does not turn every newer mobile protocol or peer-network feature into an established capability.

Choose wired or ordinary wireless

The included connections are Full-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. Full-Speed USB being compatible with the USB 2.0 specification does not make it the faster Hi-Speed mode. The exact US specification also states that wired and wireless networking cannot be used at the same time. They are therefore recorded as separate ordinary arrangements.

Original native drivers establish desktop printing over the selected interface, rather than promising full support on every current platform. Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint and Mopria remain unestablished in the read exact sources. The Secure Print field is expressly N/A. Network authentication and wireless encryption are separate from holding a confidential print job for PIN release.

Paper handling includes manual intervention

The ordinary cassette holds 250 sheets on the stated 80 g/m² basis, with a separate single-sheet manual path for suitable envelopes and other listed stock. Exact US media documentation includes Letter, Legal and A4. The Legal tray extends using its release mechanism; allow room for that operating position rather than treating the closed cabinet depth as the complete installation requirement.

The documented two-sided routine is manual duplex. The driver prints even pages, then the operator removes and reloads them in the stated orientation for odd pages. Separate instructions cover cassette and manual-feed sequences. That produces a two-sided document only with the operator's intervention; it fails a requirement for automatic output duplex.

Letter output and distinct consumables

The actual original rates output up to twenty-three Letter pages per minute, separately from twenty-two at A4. Its qualifications say document type can change the rate and wireless LAN may be slower. These are manufacturer declarations rather than personal measurements. No exact numerical recommended monthly volume is established in the read sources, so page speed is not converted into an invented workload allowance.

The starter toner declaration is approximately 1,000 A4/Letter pages. TN-330 replacement toner is approximately 1,500 and TN-360 approximately 2,600 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate DR-360 drum declaration is approximately 12,000 pages at one page per job. Job length, media and usage conditions matter; those figures do not reveal the remaining life or current operating cost of a particular earlier unit.

Body and installation boundaries

The body measures 14.5 × 14.2 × 6.7 inches. The exact US specification gives 15.0 lb with consumables, which is distinct from the original manual's lighter figure without an established supply basis. The original USA/Canada electrical branch specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Confirm the actual rating plate and leave paper, cable, ventilation and service clearance.

This model makes sense only when a usable driver and the selected network arrangement fit the existing environment. If automatic duplex, protected PIN release or scanning is essential, compare a model explicitly supporting that routine. Its included radio and compact footprint do not compensate for those different hardware or operating requirements.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 23 one-sided Letter ppm and 22 A4 ppm, separately labeled in the actual original. Declared rate depends on the document and may be slower on wireless LAN. No exact numerical recommended monthly volume or maximum duty established.

Paper handling

250-sheet ordinary cassette at 80 g/m² plus one-sheet manual path. Exact US source supports Letter, Legal and A4; US/Canada Legal tray extension is instructed. Suitable envelopes use the manual feed. Actual duplex routine requires removal and refeeding, not automatic output duplex.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Full-Speed USB compatible with USB 2.0 specification, 10/100 Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g Wi-Fi; 32 MB and PCL6. Wired and wireless networks cannot be used at the same time. Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint and Mopria are unestablished; ordinary wireless and ad-hoc terminology do not establish Direct. Exact Secure Print is N/A.

Supplies and declared yields

Approximately 1,000-page starter toner, TN-330 replacement approximately 1,500 and TN-360 approximately 2,600 A4/Letter pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate DR-360 drum approximately 12,000 A4/Letter pages at one page per job. No current cost or remaining-life estimate.

Electrical edition and setup

14.5 × 14.2 × 6.7 in.; exact US source 15.0 lb with consumables, distinct from the original 12.8 lb unspecified-supply figure. USA/Canada original 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Legal tray extension and paper, cable, ventilation and service access need room beyond the closed body. Verify actual radio/network setup and usable driver.
