HL-3045CNIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office printing one-sided color documents and occasional suitable envelopes.

The main tradeoff

Two-sided output requires manual paper refeeding; there is no scanner or included wireless interface.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can this earlier Ethernet printer provide 250-sheet Legal input for one-sided color documents and print occasional envelopes?

Qualifies in the documented compatible desktop setup. Envelopes use the one-sheet manual slot as a separate routine; the exact Letter print rating is 19 ppm in black or color.

Can I require unattended automatic two-sided Letter printing?

Fails: the exact specification and operating guide describe manual duplex, requiring the user to reinstall printed pages. The driver’s duplex option is not an automatic duplex unit.

Can I scan the signed original using this printer?

Fails: this is a print-only color printer. A compatible TIFF file originating from another Brother scanner does not add scanner hardware to 3045CN.

Wired color documents with a manual two-sided routine

The Brother HL-3045CN suits a compatible wired office that needs color documents and can work with one-sided output or deliberate manual two-sided printing. Its 250-sheet cassette holds an ordinary stack, while a separate manual slot handles occasional suitable envelopes or special media. The deciding tradeoff is that automatic duplex is unavailable. A duplex setting in the driver starts a process requiring paper refeeding rather than an unattended two-sided job.

The engine is electrophotographic LED, not a laser-beam mechanism. It is a toner-based laser-class color printer with no scanner, copier or fax hardware. The assessment uses the exact US support specification and its USA/Canada original manual as an earlier equipment reference. Those documents do not establish current stock or condition, and a surviving support page is not treated as a discontinuation notice.

Paper handling for normal and occasional jobs

The included cassette accepts Letter, Legal and A4 among its supported sizes and holds up to 250 sheets on the specified 20 lb plain-paper basis. The manual slot takes one sheet at a time. Suitable envelopes, labels and heavier media follow that separate route with the correct driver settings. A manual slot is useful for occasional work, but it is not a second full paper cassette.

The original duplex instructions explain the actual interruption: the printer outputs even-numbered pages, then asks the user to put those printed pages back in the tray before printing odd-numbered pages. Paper orientation, order and output-tray choice matter. If a long document must emerge automatically printed on both sides without someone returning to the printer, choose an exact model with an automatic duplex unit.

The correct color speed and model branch

Brother rates this model at up to 19 one-sided Letter ppm in either black or color, with a separate 18-ppm A4 figure. Those are manufacturer declarations from the normal tray, not a speed measured for this review or a promise for every file. First-page timing and manual two-sided handling are separate operations, so they should not be combined into a single throughput claim.

The shared manual also covers the HL-3075CW. Its wireless interface, PCL6 and BR-Script emulations and front USB direct-print feature are specifically assigned to that model. The 3045CN instead has 32MB of standard memory and a host-based driver arrangement. A family manual’s ability to discuss printing a file created from another Brother scanner does not make this printer a scanner.

USB, Ethernet and password-held jobs

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet are included. The exact quick-setup guide distinguishes a suitable USB Type A/B cable from a straight-through Category 5-or-better network cable. Choose the documented connection and compatible printer driver for the actual computer. No built-in Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria feature is inferred from a neighboring printer or generic support category.

The original Windows and Macintosh driver sections positively document Secure Print. A compatible job can be held until its password is entered at the printer’s control panel. Secure data is removed after printing and when the printer is turned off, so a queued held job should not be treated as permanent storage. This password release is separate from the 3075CW-only user-authentication features discussed elsewhere in the guide.

Consumables and installation space

The original replacement declarations are approximately 2200 pages for TN-210BK and 1400 for each TN-210 color cartridge under ISO/IEC 19798. The DR-210CL drum set, BU-200CL belt and WT-200CL waste-toner box are separate maintenance items. Those declarations are not remaining life for a particular machine or a current cost calculation. Numeric recommended monthly volume is not established in the read exact material, and no routine workload is inferred from a reseller’s maximum-duty listing.

The actual unit body measures 16.1 in. wide,18.3 in. deep and 9.8 in. high, with a published 41.9 lb unit weight. Allow access above the machine and around its paper and service paths. The regional original establishes USA/Canada documentation, but the cited specification does not give a numeric mains-voltage rating; use the actual unit’s rating plate for that check. For an office needing scanning, automatic duplex or a different connection, the practical alternative is an exact configuration documenting that essential function.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact US guide rates up to 19 one-sided Letter ppm and 18 A4 ppm in black or color from the normal tray. Manual duplex needs user handling and has no automatic-duplex speed claim.

Paper handling

Included cassette holds 250 sheets of 20 lb plain paper, including Letter/Legal/A4. Manual feed takes one suitable sheet or envelope. Manual duplex prints even pages first and requires paper reinstallation before odd pages.

Computer and mobile connections

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet are included. The shared guide assigns wireless, PCL6/BR-Script and front USB direct printing to the 3075CW, not the 3045CN. AirPrint and Mopria remain unestablished.

Supplies and declared yields

The original TN-210BK replacement declaration is approximately 2200 pages. TN-210C, TN-210M and TN-210Y each have a 1400-page declaration under ISO/IEC 19798. DR-210CL drum set, BU-200CL belt and WT-200CL waste box are separate items. No unverified inbox yield is asserted.

Electrical edition and setup

The official US index and USA/CAN original establish regional documentation. No numeric mains voltage appears in the read original specification, so that field remains unknown. The unit body is 16.1 in. wide, 18.3 in. deep and 9.8 in. high, with a published unit weight of 41.9 lb. Allow top-cover, paper-path and service clearance.
