HL-5150DLTIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible local desk needing separate ordinary-paper supplies and up to 550 included sheets with Letter/Legal/A4 automatic duplex.

The main tradeoff

The second tray is included in this DLT package, but network servers remain optional. Base-printer body height and loaded weight do not describe the complete tray package.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can this DLT package provide native USB Legal duplex and 550 included Legal sheets?

Qualifies with the exact included second tray, appropriate stock, compatible native software and correct duplex lever. It differs from the single-cassette base-D configuration.

Does the included lower tray also make Ethernet standard?

Fails: tray packaging does not change the linked base-D controller; NC-2100p networking is an optional external server.

The second cassette is part of this exact package

The Brother HL-5150DLT is a discontinued monochrome laser package whose practical advantage is its two separate included 250-sheet paper trays. It suits a compatible local desk needing separate ordinary-paper supplies, automatic duplex and substantial included input. The exact DLT record must remain separate from the single-cassette HL-5150D when capacity is essential.

Brother’s package record explicitly describes two trays for Letter or Legal, alongside the multipurpose tray and automatic two-sided output. It identifies the HL-5150D operating support platform. That connection permits using the actual platform’s operating instructions while preserving the DLT’s different included tray configuration. It does not turn the package into a network-equipped HL-5170DN.

550 sheets on the documented paper basis

The platform guide establishes a fifty-sheet multipurpose tray in addition to the ordinary cassette. Combined with the exact DLT’s two included 250-sheet trays, ordinary input totals 550 on the stated paper basis. Both cassettes and the multipurpose range support Letter, Legal and A4. This is included capacity for the documented package rather than an optional-tray maximum borrowed from a smaller configuration.

Keeping different ordinary stocks in separate trays can reduce repeated swapping, but the actual driver source and paper settings still need to match what is loaded. Appropriate envelopes use their own multipurpose routine. Ordinary-sheet capacity does not describe an envelope stack, and envelopes do not become automatic-duplex media merely because they fit the tray.

Set the lever and use the native duplex routine

The original automatic-duplex instructions positively permit A4, Letter and Legal plain paper. The operator loads the paper and sets the duplex-tray lever to the actual size group: A4 differs from Letter or Legal. In the compatible driver, select Duplex and Use Duplex Tray, then choose the required binding arrangement.

These details matter because automatic duplex depends on the physical paper path and driver settings working together. The guide advises straightening curled stock and using appropriate regular paper. A full lower cassette does not remove those media restrictions or establish that every custom multipurpose size can follow the duplex path.

Local interfaces and historical software

The linked platform’s standard computer interfaces are Hi-Speed USB and parallel, with sixteen megabytes of base memory and PCL6/BR-Script 3 support. Ethernet requires the optional external server. The included second paper tray does not alter that interface distinction, and no wireless or native mobile-protocol arrangement is established by the package description.

Historical operating-system and interface restrictions still apply. In particular, the guide excludes USB under Windows 95 and Windows NT4.0, even though those systems appear elsewhere in its driver table. Confirm a usable native driver and actual connection before relying on the automatic duplex routine. The original HQ1200 quality declaration does not establish that every job or operating-system driver supports the same advanced controls under all conditions. The machine is a dedicated printer without scanner, copier or fax hardware.

Speed, supplies and the full installed package

The linked engine specification declares up to twenty-one one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately from twenty A4 pages. These are manufacturer figures rather than personal measurements. The cited originals do not establish a recurring monthly recommendation, so neither speed nor larger input capacity is used to invent one.

Original replacement toner declarations use five-percent Letter/A4 coverage, with different standard and high-yield amounts; the separate drum declaration assumes one page per job. Package-specific included toner remains unestablished. The US operating edition requires 110–120 VAC. Base-D height and loaded weight exclude the second cassette, so complete package measurements remain unknown. Verify the physical lower tray and leave both cassette, duplex, ventilation and maintenance clearance.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Linked exact HL-5150D engine specification up to 21 one-sided Letter ppm or 20 A4 ppm. These are different paper-size declarations rather than measured results. No recurring monthly recommendation or maximum duty is inferred from speed, capacity or supplies.

Paper handling

Exact DLT primary includes two separate 250-sheet trays for Letter/Legal; linked HL-5150D operating table establishes 50-sheet MP, total 550 on stated 80 g/m² basis. Lower tray also accepts A4; exact included capacities Letter/Legal/A4 each 550. Automatic duplex A4/Letter/Legal plain stock with proper rear lever and driver. Envelopes use separate MP routine. Do not treat included DLT lower tray as merely optional base-D expansion.

Scanning arrangement

Dedicated mono laser print-only package without scanner, copying, document feeder or telephone fax. The lower paper tray handles blank output stock rather than captured originals.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact DLT primary identifies official support platform HL-5150D; that original table establishes standard Hi-Speed USB and IEEE1284 parallel, 16 MB expandable 144 MB, PCL6/BR-Script 3. NC-2100p Ethernet is optional; standard network of HL-5170DN is excluded. Package second-tray inclusion is separately confirmed by exact DLT primary.

Supplies and declared yields

Original standard replacement toner approximately 3,500 Letter/A4 pages and high-yield approximately 6,700 at 5% coverage, not relabeled ISO. Separate drum approximately 20,000 pages at one page per job. Included toner and exact DLT supply order codes are unestablished by these cited actual sections; no current cost or remaining life is inferred.

Software and support

Original automatic duplex operation loads stock, sets the A4 versus Letter/Legal lever, and selects Duplex with Use Duplex Tray in compatible native driver; binding offset is optional. Historical Windows 95/NT4 USB exclusion remains; parallel hardware is a separate legacy route. No native PIN or mobile-protocol claim is invented.

Electrical edition and setup

Official exact US package plus linked US/Canada operation 110–120 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Base-D dimensions 15.0 × 15.8 × 9.9 in. and 26.2 lb with supplies exclude included lower tray, so complete DLT dimensions and loaded weight remain unknown. Leave ventilation, duplex lever, MP, rear-output, two-cassette, cable and service clearance; verify the second tray is physically present on an earlier unit.
