HL-5340DIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible local computer needing monochrome duplex output and a multipurpose tray without built-in network requirements.

The main tradeoff

Ethernet belongs to HL-5350DN and Wi-Fi to HL-5370DW; the Romanian and US duplex-size lists must remain separate.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a USB computer automatically duplex-print Legal in monochrome using 300 included input sheets?

Qualifies with a compatible native driver and suitable paper. The exact US Letter/Legal duplex list and standard 250-plus-50-sheet configuration support this arrangement.

Will the exact HL-5340D provide included Ethernet like the DN model in its manual?

Fails: HL-5340D has standard USB and parallel. Ethernet belongs to HL-5350DN and other specified neighboring configurations.

Can it scan a stack while it prints on both sides?

Fails: this is a printer-only model. Automatic print duplex does not supply an original scanner or feeder.

A local printer with two useful paper inputs

The Brother HL-5340D is an earlier monochrome laser printer for a compatible local computer. It has automatic print duplex, a 250-sheet cassette and a genuine 50-sheet multipurpose tray. That combination can suit someone who alternates ordinary documents and appropriate special media without requiring a network printer. It does not include a scanner, copier or fax.

The shared guide also covers HL-5350DN and HL-5370DW, so a family cover is not enough to assign interfaces. This exact HL-5340D has Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and IEEE 1284 parallel with 16 MB standard memory. Ethernet belongs to the DN branch, and the wireless branch has its own equipment. Neither is silently transferred to this local configuration.

Regional duplex lists need a careful reading

The original paid source is a Romanian Version B guide. Its exact tables establish A4 automatic duplex and regional TN-3230, TN-3280 and DR-3200 supplies. Those are valid regional facts, but they are not the same as a US configuration. The separately read USA guide establishes its own power, media and supply details rather than requiring a translation to carry every market assumption.

The USA guide's general duplex instructions mention A4, Letter, Legal and Folio. Its specific media table, however, lists Letter, Legal and Folio for automatic duplex, matching the exact US support record. This assessment uses that narrower US size list for a size-specific requirement. Ordinary A4 input and an A4 duplex speed in a family table do not resolve the conflicting media qualification in favor of broader US support.

Capacity and envelope handling

The included cassette and MP tray provide 300 sheets on the stated 80 g/m² / 20 lb plain-paper basis. Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary input is documented in the US guide. Optional lower trays are separate purchases rather than included capacity. The correct tray and driver settings matter for a job, especially when paper weight or type differs from ordinary stock.

The MP tray accepts up to three suitable envelopes, not fifty envelopes because its plain-paper capacity is fifty. The envelope routine uses the rear straight paper path and the specified levers and output handling. The guide instructs the user to restore the envelope levers afterward and remove output as directed. This is a real media-handling task rather than a promise that all envelopes can be stacked and fed like office paper.

Speed and native software

The US original rates one-sided printing up to 32 Letter or 30 A4 pages per minute. Automatic Letter duplex is separately up to fourteen sides, or seven sheets, per minute. These are different units and conditions. They do not describe personal timing results, and the simplex headline does not mean 32 completed duplex sheets per minute.

The operating chapter explains selecting the automatic duplex unit in the compatible native driver. Manual duplex is a separate refeeding process with its own driver limitations. Original Windows, Macintosh and Linux support statements belong to their documented period and distribution conditions. Check the intended computer before relying on this older platform. No exact native PIN-release routine is claimed from the read sections, and ordinary USB connectivity does not supply mobile network protocols.

US supplies and the desk installation

The US guide lists TN-620 toner at approximately 3,000 pages and TN-650 at approximately 8,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The DR-620 drum is a separate maintenance item with an approximately 25,000-page declaration under the maker's conditions. These identifiers remain distinct from the Romanian supplies. Declared yields do not establish current running costs or remaining life in an individual used machine.

USA/Canada power is AC 110–120 V, 50/60 Hz; the guide separately specifies 220–240 V for Europe and Australia. The US body measures 14.6 × 15.1 × 9.7 inches, and the exact support table identifies 20.9 lb with consumables. Leave room for the rear output path, loading and service. Choose it for compatible local monochrome work where its documented regional duplex sizes and standard capacity meet the actual job.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

US original: up to 32 one-sided Letter or 30 A4 ppm. Automatic Letter duplex is separately up to 14 sides / 7 sheets per minute; A4 duplex speed appears in a regional family table and does not override the specific US media-size restriction.

Paper handling

Standard 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet MP tray on 80 g/m² / 20 lb paper. Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary input is documented in the US edition. The specific US media table and support record limit automatic duplex to Letter, Legal and Folio despite broader generic operating wording. Optional lower trays are excluded; MP envelopes up to three.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and IEEE 1284 parallel. Exact HL-5340D has 16 MB standard memory and no standard Ethernet or wireless interface. HL-5350DN/HL-5370DW network columns are excluded. Native PIN release is unestablished in the read exact operating sections.

Supplies and declared yields

US supplies are TN-620 approximately 3,000 pages and TN-650 approximately 8,000 under ISO/IEC 19752, plus separate DR-620 drum approximately 25,000 pages under stated conditions. The Romanian edition uses different TN-3230/TN-3280/DR-3200 identifiers; these are not substituted into US supply claims.

Electrical edition and setup

USA/Canada power is AC 110–120 V, 50/60 Hz; European/Australian power is separately 220–240 V. US body 14.6 × 15.1 × 9.7 in.; exact support record identifies 20.9 lb with consumables. Recommended monthly workload remains unknown. Leave rear straight-path and tray/service clearance.
