HL-5470DWIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible workgroup wanting a separate 50-sheet media path, native protected release and a relatively low printer body.

The main tradeoff

The 500-sheet lower tray is optional, the network socket is 10/100 Ethernet and no document scanner is included.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can native Ethernet output meet monochrome Legal duplex, PIN release, 300 included sheets and 40 Letter ppm?

Qualifies with compatible native Windows software and suitable paper. Exact US Legal automatic duplex and protected panel release are documented; 40 ppm is the separate one-sided Letter rating.

Are 800 input sheets included in ordinary HL-5470DW?

Fails:250 main plus 50 MP gives 300 standard sheets. The 500-sheet lower tray is an optional purchase for this exact ordinary configuration.

A separate media path in a low printer body

The Brother HL-5470DW is a discontinued monochrome laser printer with a 250-sheet cassette and a 50-sheet multipurpose input. The MP tray provides a useful second path for compatible letterhead or special stock, while the main cassette holds the ordinary document supply. This exact model includes 300 input sheets, rather than the expanded total obtained by adding an accessory.

Its useful role is compatible workgroup printing with automatic duplex and native protected-document release. There is no scanner, copier or fax. Even when Brother's mobile application name includes scanning, the HL-5470DW has no original-capture hardware to supply that function.

Keep the optional lower cassette separate

The input declarations use the stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² plain-paper basis. Both included paths accommodate ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 within their documented media ranges. Envelopes and other special stock use their appropriate MP settings and paper path, rather than borrowing the ordinary fifty-sheet rating for every material.

The LT-5400 500-sheet lower tray is optional on this ordinary HL-5470DW. The original's footnote makes a lower tray standard only on the separately identified T configurations. An 800-sheet requirement therefore cannot be met by the supplied ordinary machine alone, and adding a lower tray also changes its height and operating access.

Automatic duplex has a specific US media list

The US operating routine lists Letter, Legal and Folio for automatic two-sided printing. It selects a suitable paper source and binding and calls for appropriate plain, thin or recycled paper. A4 ordinary input and a generic A4 duplex-speed heading do not establish automatic A4 duplex in this regional configuration.

The exact HL-5470DW speed branch rates up to 40 one-sided Letter or 38 A4 pages per minute. Automatic Letter duplex is separately up to eighteen sides, or nine sheets, per minute. The faster forty-two-page branch belongs to HL-6180 models. These are source declarations under different modes, not personal timing results or completed two-sided sheets at the simplex rate.

Native protected release and ordinary network printing

The included connections are Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The exact interface table distinguishes this Fast Ethernet socket from the Gigabit connection on the HL-6180 family. Standard memory is 128 MB, with expansion separately optional.

The native Windows Secure Print operation protects a document with a four-digit password. The operator chooses the stored user and job at the machine, enters the password and releases it. Secure data is deleted after printing and when power is turned off. AirPrint and Wi-Fi Direct are documented separately; every phone application is not promised that native held-job workflow. Check usable drivers for the actual computer rather than extrapolating an original operating-system list.

Supplies and the ordinary cabinet

The original declares approximately 3,000 inbox toner pages. TN-720 replacement toner is approximately 3,000 and TN-750 approximately 8,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The TN-780 12,000-page option belongs to the HL-6180 branch and is not assigned here. A separate DR-720 drum is approximately 30,000 pages at one page per job under its conditions. These yields do not establish current cost or remaining life.

The exact ordinary body measures 14.6 × 15.1 × 10.1 inches and weighs 23.1 lb with consumables. The USA/Canada original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The compact closed height does not include an optional lower tray or the room needed to remove paper and replace consumables. Leave MP, rear-output, cassette, cable and service access beyond the closed dimensions. No numerical recurring monthly recommendation is established in the exact sources read here, so the paper capacity is not converted into an invented volume rating.
