HL-7050NIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible legacy workgroup needing large ordinary input and supported password-held PCL printing without assuming optional accessories are installed.

The main tradeoff

Automatic duplex requires the separate DX-7000. Native protected jobs need a configured memory disk, and storage consumes available working RAM.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can included Ethernet support mono Legal output, 600 sheets and password release without buying storage?

Qualifies with compatible native Windows PCL software and sufficient configured RAMDISK space. Optional storage is recommended, not required; this plan does not include the optional duplex unit.

Is automatic duplex included in the base HL-7050N?

Fails: DX-7000 is a separately installed option. The included N suffix establishes Ethernet, not an included duplex mechanism.

Fails: 600 ordinary sheets are included. Reaching 2,100 requires three optional lower trays.

A large-input legacy network printer

The Brother HL-7050N is an earlier monochrome laser printer with 600 included ordinary sheets and standard wired Ethernet. Its fit is a compatible legacy workgroup needing black printing, fewer paper refills and supported password-held jobs. It is print-only. The deciding qualification is that its expandable design does not make the automatic duplex unit, lower trays or storage accessories standard.

The exact N suffix establishes included 10/100 Ethernet. The plain HL-7050 instead needs the optional NC-4100h for that network arrangement. USB, parallel and RS-232C serial are also documented. Optional wireless solutions and infrared accessories are not treated as built-in ordinary Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct or verified AirPrint/Mopria support.

Six hundred sheets before additions

The supplied cassette holds 500 sheets and the multipurpose tray another hundred under the original plain-paper conditions. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4. Suitable envelopes use the separate multipurpose routine with its media, thickness and output-path instructions. These ordinary paper capacities do not mean the same number of envelopes can be loaded.

Three additional 500-sheet lower trays can expand the system to 2,100 sheets, but they require separate hardware. The DX-7000 automatic duplex mechanism is also optional. A driver icon or booklet feature cannot satisfy automatic duplex in the included base configuration without that installed unit. The original specifically links those functions to the optional mechanism.

Protected jobs can use configured RAM

The actual native PCL workflow supports Secure Print. It stores a supported confidential job for release after selecting the user and job and entering the password at the control panel. That is distinct from ordinary public reprinting, which can expose an unprotected stored job to other users. Check the native spooling setting rather than assuming every reprint is protected.

The original recommends a hard disk or CompactFlash card for proof, public and secure storage, but also explains operation without either. The operator assigns a nonzero RAMDISK allocation in the included memory. That allocation reduces available working RAM, so complex or numerous jobs can have a different practical limit. Stored RAM jobs disappear at power-off. Optional storage is therefore not mandatory, and included memory is not unlimited storage.

Declared speed and separate consumables

The exact US specification rates one-sided output at thirty Letter pages per minute. The original's regional A4 figure is twenty-eight. Neither is a personally measured mixed-document result, and first-print timing is a different measurement. No exact numerical recommended monthly volume is established in the read sources, so a workload recommendation is not inferred from the rate.

The indexed US brochure identifies TN-700 toner up to 12,000 Letter pages at five-percent coverage and a separate DR-700 drum up to 40,000 Letter pages. The actual manual adds its A4/Letter and density conditions. These declarations are retained as stated, without inventing an ISO basis, a distinct inbox yield, current running cost or remaining consumable life.

Mechanical and installation checks

The exact US N specification labels the body 19.1 inches wide, 18.9 deep and 16.6 high. Those explicit axes resolve the shared manual's transposed depth/height labels. The N-specific 53.6 lb unit declaration lacks an established loaded-supply basis, so it is not used as a loaded-weight field. The original US electrical branch specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz.

Leave room for cassette travel, multipurpose feeding, rear output, ventilation and maintenance. Confirm the actual rating plate, usable native software and which accessories are physically installed. If automatic duplex is essential immediately, compare a package explicitly including it; if this earlier unit is already equipped, verify the exact installed option before relying on an expanded routine.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact US source up to 30 one-sided Letter ppm; regional A4 branch is 28 ppm. First-print time and optional-duplex behavior are separate. No numerical recommended monthly volume or maximum duty established in the read exact sources.

Paper handling

Included 500-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet MP tray, with declared ordinary-paper capacities under the original 80 g/m² / 20 lb conditions. Both support Letter, Legal and A4. Three optional 500-sheet lower trays are excluded from the base 600; 2,100 requires those additions. Envelopes use the instructed MP route. Automatic duplex requires optional DX-7000.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB, parallel and RS-232C serial; exact HL-7050N additionally includes 10/100 Ethernet, unlike plain HL-7050 optional NC-4100h. 32 MB, expandable via optional DIMMs; PCL6/BR-Script 3 and other listed emulations. Wi-Fi solutions and infrared are optional, not built-in Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. AirPrint and Mopria are unestablished.

Supplies and declared yields

Indexed exact US brochure identifies TN-700 up to 12,000 Letter pages at 5% coverage and DR-700 up to 40,000 Letter pages. Actual guide describes replacement toner and drum declarations with A4/Letter, source density and coverage conditions. No separate inbox-yield or ISO basis is invented, and no current cost is calculated.

Software and support

Native Windows PCL Secure Print is positive in included hardware after assigning RAMDISK memory; panel selection requires user, job and password. The original shows a numeric password panel. Extra HDD/CompactFlash is recommended, not compulsory. Allocating RAM reduces working memory, and stored RAM jobs disappear at power-off. Generic security is not borrowed into a mobile protocol plan.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US N specification gives 19.1 W × 18.9 D × 16.6 H in.; its explicit axes resolve the shared manual’s transposed H/D labels. US N unit weight is 53.6 lb, but loaded-supply basis is not established, so the loaded-weight field stays unknown. Actual guide US electrical branch 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Allow cassette, MP, rear-path, ventilation and service clearance; verify accessories, software and actual rating plate.
