HL-L2380DWIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible home office scanning individual Letter/A4 originals and printing black documents with automatic two-sided output.

The main tradeoff

There is no document feeder or fax. Legal paper can be printed, but a Legal original is longer than the glass.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Wi-Fi handle mono Legal duplex output and color Letter flatbed scans with 250 sheets?

Qualifies with compatible native desktop software and suitable paper. The exact model also meets 32 one-sided Letter ppm and a 2,000-page recommended monthly maximum.

The HL prefix still includes a scanner

The Brother HL-L2380DW is a discontinued monochrome laser machine with copying and color flatbed scanning. Its useful fit is a compatible home office producing black documents and digitizing individual Letter/A4 originals. Automatic two-sided output, a 250-sheet tray and ordinary USB or network connections make sense for that routine. A feeder or telephone fax requirement changes the choice.

The exact identity matters more than the HL prefix. Brother's brochure and product description positively establish three functions here. Its shared manual also covers MFC-L2720DW and MFC-L2740DW, but their feeder and fax branches do not become part of this shorter machine. The touchscreen is color; printed output remains monochrome.

Individual originals on the glass

The original specification gives the glass a maximum document size of 8.5 by 11.8 inches, while the brochure describes it as Letter-size. That supports Letter and A4 originals within the documented range. It does not support a full fourteen-inch Legal original, even though the paper cassette accepts Legal for printing.

There is no automatic document feeder. For multiple pages, the operator places and changes originals on the glass. A manual two-sided copy routine can build two-sided output by scanning separate sides, but automatic two-sided original capture is absent. The large interpolated resolution number is also distinct from the optical glass specification and says nothing about a missing feeder.

Three ordinary desktop connections

Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support desktop printing and computer scanning through compatible native software. The Basic Guide's ControlCenter workflow saves a file to the selected computer; a network-connected machine explicitly selects the destination computer. Original Server compatibility rows describe network printing, rather than full desktop scanner support on every platform.

AirPrint and Wi-Fi Direct are separately documented printing arrangements. AirPrint uses a suitable shared network, while Direct is a peer route. Neither is used here to manufacture an unverified desktop-scanning bridge. Native PIN release remains unestablished for this exact HL model: the separately read Secure Print operating chapter names the two MFC models instead. Historical cloud-service names likewise do not guarantee a currently working online service.

Legal output, ordinary envelopes and workload

The included cassette holds up to 250 sheets on the stated 20 lb plain-paper basis. A separate single-sheet manual path handles suitable envelopes and other instructed media. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 input is supported. The exact US automatic print-duplex list is Letter, Legal and Folio; ordinary A4 feeding does not extend that regional duplex list.

Brother rates the exact model up to thirty-two one-sided Letter pages per minute. Automatic Letter duplex is separately up to fifteen printed sides or seven and a half sheets per minute. These declared rates are not personal measurements. Recommended monthly output is 250–2,000 pages, with a distinct 10,000-page maximum duty figure; the larger number does not replace the recommendation.

Supplies and the space to use them

The starter toner declaration is approximately 700 pages. Replacement TN-630 is approximately 1,200 and TN-660 approximately 2,600 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate DR-630 drum has an approximately 12,000-page declaration under its conditions. Toner and drum are different consumables, and neither declaration establishes present running cost or remaining life.

The body measures 16.1 × 15.7 × 10.5 inches and weighs 21.6 lb with supplies. The US original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Leave room for the glass lid, cassette, manual feed, rear path, cables and service work. If stacks, automatic original duplex or fax are essential, compare an exact model documenting those functions rather than assuming the shared guide makes them standard.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 32 one-sided Letter ppm for exact HL-L2380DW, distinct from neighboring 27/30 ppm models. Letter automatic duplex is separately up to 15 sides or 7.5 sheets per minute. Recommended 250–2,000 pages monthly differs from maximum duty 10,000.

Paper handling

250-sheet cassette on stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis plus one-sheet manual feed. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 input; exact US automatic print-duplex sizes Letter, Legal and Folio with appropriate plain, thin or recycled stock. Envelope printing uses the separately instructed manual path.

Scanning arrangement

Flatbed-only color capture; exact original glass maximum 8.5 × 11.8 in. supports Letter/A4, not Legal. Brochure calls the glass Letter-size. ADF model lists exclude HL-L2380DW; automatic original duplex is expressly absent. Optical glass resolution is separate from the much larger interpolated number.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet, ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and separately documented Wi-Fi Direct; 64 MB and 2.7-inch color touchscreen. Native USB/LAN computer capture is confirmed. AirPrint uses its compatible shared-network arrangement. Mopria and native PIN release are unestablished; a generic trademark footnote does not establish either.

Supplies and declared yields

Approximately 700-page starter toner; TN-630 replacement approximately 1,200 and TN-660 approximately 2,600 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate DR-630 drum approximately 12,000 pages under its usage conditions. Maker yields do not establish current cost or remaining life.

Electrical edition and setup

Body 16.1 × 15.7 × 10.5 in.; exact US original loaded weight 21.6 lb, distinct from 26.7 lb carton. Original power 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Leave glass-lid, paper, rear-path, cable and service access. Confirm usable software for the actual earlier unit; named historical online services are not promised to remain operational.
