Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can an earlier wired-network printer copy and color-scan Letter originals on a flatbed?
Qualifies using the supported desktop Ethernet print/scan arrangement and suitable scanner software. Printed and copied output remains monochrome.

Fails: HL-L2395DW has a flatbed, but the shared manual assigns the feeder to other exact models.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its flatbed accept a Legal original?
Fails: Legal printing does not extend the scanner glass beyond its documented 11.8 in maximum length.
Explore this need in the finder →A flatbed office routine rather than a feeder workflow
The Brother HL-L2395DW fits an office that prints black-and-white documents and occasionally copies or scans an individual original. It combines automatic two-sided printing with a flatbed scanner, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Its deciding limitation is the absence of an automatic document feeder: each original must be positioned on the glass rather than loaded as a stack.
Brother marks this exact model discontinued. This is therefore an earlier-model reference for an existing unit or a specifically sourced older package. The documentation remains useful for checking its functions, but a retained product page does not verify current stock, condition or a particular seller's included supplies.
Color scanning does not mean color printing
The scanner captures color or black-and-white originals. The printer produces monochrome pages, and standalone copies are also black and white. Its 2.7 in color touchscreen is a control interface, not evidence of color toner printing. This distinction matters when the job is digitizing a color receipt rather than reproducing its colors on paper.
The actual scanner specification gives a glass size up to 8.5 ×11.8 in, which accommodates Letter and A4 originals. It does not accommodate a full Legal-length original in one placement. The older brochure describes the glass using Letter size; the more detailed model-specific specifications provide the physical maximum. Neither source turns Legal printing support into a Legal flatbed.
The shared family manual also lists 50-sheet feeders and automatic two-sided scanning, but its model labels exclude HL-L2395DW from those features. There is no feeder here, and automatic print duplex does not create automatic document reversal or single-pass scanning. A daily stack-scanning routine calls for a model whose exact feeder method is documented.
Connections and software need to match the job
USB supports a local computer arrangement, while built-in Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support suitable network print/scan setups. Computer scanning still needs compatible scanner software and correct network configuration. Historical operating-system lists do not guarantee that every old utility remains supported on every new computer.
AirPrint and Mopria are documented mobile-printing options on the supported wireless-network arrangement. They are not borrowed into a USB cable setup. Wi-Fi Direct printing is also documented, but this reference does not assume the same computer-scanning route over every peer connection. Old cloud-service names are not promises that those services remain available today.
Paper capacity and duplex have separate conditions
The included main tray holds up to 250 sheets of 20 lb plain paper and accepts the listed Letter, Legal and A4 sizes. The single-sheet manual feed is useful for suitable envelopes or special media. It is not another stocked cassette, and its higher paper-weight allowance should not be applied to automatic duplex.
The reviewed US automatic-duplex list includes Letter and Legal. A4 remains in the ordinary input list rather than the exact US duplex-size list. Choose the actual regional configuration and paper routine, especially when a specific two-sided document size is essential. The specification's type and weight restrictions remain relevant even when the size fits.
Read speed and supplies as declared limits
Brother declares up to 36 one-sided Letter pages per minute and 34 A4 pages per minute. Its separate Letter duplex figure is 17 sides per minute, or 8.5 sheets per minute. Those manufacturer ratings are different metrics, not our measured speed. The recommended monthly maximum is 2,000 pages; the 15,000-page duty cycle is not a daily workload recommendation.
The described package includes a starter toner cartridge rated around 700 pages and a DR730 drum rated around 12,000 pages. Toner and drum are separate supplies. Replacement TN730 and TN760 choices have different declared yields, and the remaining life of an older package cannot be inferred from those ratings.
The body is 16.1 ×15.7 ×10.7 in and 22.7 lb with supplies. Leave room above it for the scanner lid and around it for paper access. Choose this printer for occasional flatbed work and monochrome network printing; choose an actual ADF model for stacks, or a color-printing model when color must appear on the finished page.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Maximum 36 one-sided Letter ppm or 34 A4 ppm. Separate Letter duplex figure 17 sides/minute, 8.5 sheets/minute.
Paper handling
Included 250-sheet tray at 20 lb plain paper; manual feed one sheet at a time. US automatic duplex lists Letter/Legal; A4 remains an ordinary simplex size.
Scanning arrangement
Flatbed glass up to 8.5 × 11.8 in accepts Letter and A4, not Legal. The shared manual assigns ADF and duplex scanning to other named models. Color scanning is supported; printing and copying are monochrome.
Computer and mobile connections
USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi support computer print/scan with suitable software. Wi-Fi Direct printing is documented separately; computer scanning over that peer route is not assumed.
Supplies and declared yields
Starter toner about 700 pages; DR730 drum about 12,000 pages. TN730/TN760 replacement toner yields differ. Confirm actual supplied consumables in an earlier unit.
