MFC-6800Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible original USB desktop setup that needs monochrome documents and simplex capture while accepting older software and manual handling.

The main tradeoff

The 200-sheet declaration is specifically Letter/A4, Legal does not fit the glass, and the documented manual duplex routine selects LPT1.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible USB desktop print monochrome Letter and color-scan Legal through the feeder, with 200 included Letter sheets?

Qualifies in the documented original USB printer/scanner arrangement. Printing uses Letter paper, whose 200-sheet capacity is explicit; Legal originals use the separate simplex ADF. Analog fax requires a suitable telephone connection.

Does its manual duplex driver option provide automatic two-sided printing?

Fails: the actual routine specifies LPT1 and requires user removal and refeeding. It does not establish an automatic duplex unit.

Can a full Legal original stay on the scanner glass?

Fails: the glass is 11.7 inches long. Suitable Legal originals use the simplex ADF rather than a Legal-size flatbed.

An older local multifunction arrangement

The Brother MFC-6800 is a discontinued monochrome laser multifunction device with color computer scanning and analog fax. Its 30-sheet document feeder, flatbed and USB or parallel interfaces belong to an earlier desktop-software era. It can serve as a reference for a compatible original computer arrangement, but the surviving source does not establish universal support on a current computer or the condition of an individual unit.

The original manual describes five modes because it counts PC fax separately. That does not mean five different print engines or a color printer. Printed and copied output is monochrome, while color capture is independently documented. A suitable telephone connection is required for analog fax; neither USB nor an imagined network socket supplies the line.

Letter/A4 capacity is more precise than a generic 200-sheet claim

The actual loading section gives approximately 200 sheets of 20 lb /75 g/m² Letter or A4 paper in the multipurpose sheet feeder. It separately allows up to ten suitable envelopes and lists Legal as accepted cut-sheet input. The exact Legal stack capacity is not established by that Letter/A4 declaration. A requirement for a particular Legal stack should not borrow the 200-sheet figure merely because Legal paper can be fed.

Loading uses the feeder lever, adjusted guides and the stack mark. Appropriate paper weight and envelope construction still matter. This is the same physical paper routine used for printed output; the 30-sheet original feeder is a separate mechanism. Output capacity and document capacity are not added to the printer's input total.

Legal originals use the simplex ADF

The document feeder accepts suitable originals through 8.5 ×14 inches, while the glass reaches 8.5 ×11.7 inches. A full Legal original therefore uses the simplex feeder. Appropriate shorter fragile items or individual originals can use the glass under the loading instructions. Automatic scan duplex and a single-pass mechanism are not established in the read exact evidence.

The Windows scan-key instructions require the appropriate Brother drivers and a running Control Center application. They describe sending a color picture to a graphics application and choosing file destinations and formats. Those are real operating requirements, not capabilities supplied by the connector alone. Original Macintosh control-panel key limitations are also distinct from what a compatible desktop scanning application can do.

The documented duplex routine selects LPT1

The actual two-sided printing section is explicitly manual and instructs the user to select LPT1. It prints even-numbered pages, asks for the paper to be straightened and reinserted, then prints the other sides. That parallel-driver routine is not automatically transferred to a USB plan, and it does not establish an automatic duplex unit on either connection.

The exact original rates one-sided Letter or A4 printing up to ten pages per minute from the sheet feeder. This is a manufacturer declaration, not a personal timing result or ten completed duplex sheets per minute. No recommended recurring monthly volume, modern mobile protocol or PIN-held print-release routine is inferred from the older software and fax features.

Job length changes the consumable declarations

The US/Canada starter toner is declared up to 1,000 pages and replacement toner up to 2,200 at 5% Letter/A4 coverage. Those figures are not relabeled as ISO/IEC yields. The drum declaration is especially dependent on job length: up to 8,000 pages at one page per job or 20,000 at twenty pages per job. Neither predicts the remaining life of an old drum or establishes a current running cost.

The USA/Canada original specifies 120 VAC,50/60 Hz and a body 18.1 ×18.0 ×13.9 inches. Its 24.2 lb /11 kg weight is labeled without carton, while the current exact specification gives a conflicting 26.4 lb /11 kg. Loaded weight remains unknown. Leave feeder, cover, loading and service access, and choose this reference only where the verified original software and manual paper routines fit the intended work.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact original rates up to 10 one-sided Letter or A4 ppm from the sheet feeder. This is a manufacturer rate rather than completed duplex sheets or measured throughput. No exact recurring monthly recommendation is established.

Paper handling

Multi-purpose sheet feeder holds approximately 200 sheets of stated 20 lb / 75 g/m² Letter/A4 paper, or up to ten suitable envelopes. Legal is accepted cut-sheet input, but exact Legal stack capacity is not established. Native manual duplex operation explicitly selects LPT1 parallel and asks the user to reinsert the pages; no automatic unit is assigned.

Scanning arrangement

30-sheet simplex ADF accepts originals through 8.5 × 14 in.; glass maximum is 8.5 × 11.7 in., so not Legal. Color capture is positive. Original Windows scan-key routine needs compatible Brother drivers and running Control Center; automatic scan duplex and its mechanism are unestablished.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB and IEEE1284 parallel; no included Ethernet or Wi-Fi is established. Compatible original USB printer/scanner setup is distinct from the LPT1-specific manual print-duplex routine. Original Macintosh control-panel scan-key limitations are separate from desktop scanning support; no modern mobile or PIN-held print routine is inferred.

Supplies and declared yields

US/Canada starter toner declared up to 1,000 pages and replacement toner up to 2,200 at 5% Letter/A4 coverage, not ISO/IEC yields. Separate drum declared up to 8,000 pages at one page per job or 20,000 at twenty pages per job. Job length therefore matters; no current running cost is inferred.

Electrical edition and setup

USA/Canada original specifies 120 VAC,50/60 Hz and 18.1 × 18.0 × 13.9 in. body. Original 24.2 lb /11 kg is labeled without carton; current exact spec gives conflicting 26.4 lb /11 kg. Loaded weight remains unassigned. Leave feeder, glass-cover, paper-loading and service clearance and verify compatible original software.
