MFC-7460DNIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office printing monochrome documents and scanning suitable one-sided Legal originals in color.

The main tradeoff

Legal originals fit the ADF rather than the shorter flatbed, and the exact standard configuration supplies no Wi-Fi.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can this earlier Ethernet all-in-one duplex-print Legal and scan one-sided Legal originals in color?

Qualifies with compatible desktop scanning software and suitable telephone service if using fax. The exact included print input is 250 sheets, and the Letter simplex print rating is 27 ppm.

Can I place an entire Legal original on its glass?

Fails: the glass accepts only 11.7 in. length. The 14 in. Legal document limit applies to the ADF, not the flatbed.

Can the standard 7460DN use Wi-Fi instead of a printer network cable?

Fails: its documented included computer routes are USB and Ethernet. The 7860DW wireless feature is a different model branch.

A wired office routine with color capture

The Brother MFC-7460DN fits an established, compatible office that wants monochrome laser printing, copying and conventional fax, plus a color scanner for loose documents. Its included Ethernet interface supports sharing, while USB provides a local computer connection. The deciding document limit is the split between the Legal-capable feeder and the shorter flatbed: the general Legal scan size does not apply to every way of loading an original.

Brother marks the exact model discontinued. Its original functions can help assess an existing machine or an earlier replacement candidate, but they do not establish present stock, condition or software support for every new computer. The shared guide includes models with different wireless hardware, print speeds and fax modems, so the 7460DN branch must be read separately.

Choose a feeder or glass for the actual original

The 35-page ADF handles suitable staggered sheets on the stated 20 lb paper basis. Its single-sided original range is 5.8–8.5 in. wide and 5.8–14 in. long, allowing suitable Legal pages. Prepare a clean loose stack, remove staples and avoid damaged or unsuitable originals. The documented feeder route here is single-sided; automatic reverse-side capture is not established by the read exact specification.

The glass accepts up to 8.5 × 11.7 in. originals for Letter and A4. It provides a useful alternative for a page that should not travel through the feeder, but a complete Legal original is too long. A larger glass is the appropriate requirement for fragile or bound Legal material. Color scanning is positively documented in the original scanner specification and exact product description, despite a malformed generic web field saying black and white.

Automatic output duplex has its own size list

The normal cassette holds up to 250 sheets of 20 lb plain paper, including Letter, Legal and A4. The separate manual slot accepts one suitable sheet or envelope at a time. Use the correct media settings and allow room for loading and the rear output path when needed. The manual slot should not be counted as a second full cassette.

The US automatic print-duplex size list is Letter, Legal and Folio. A4 fits for ordinary printing, but that does not establish automatic A4 output on this edition. Likewise, automatic two-sided printing does not establish a two-sided scanner. Brother rates the 7460DN at up to 27 one-sided Letter ppm; the 24-ppm branch belongs to other named models. The separate duplex rating should not replace the clearly identified simplex Letter figure.

Desktop scanning and network printing are separate checks

The original supported-function table positively documents desktop printing and scanning through USB or Ethernet with compatible software. Its Windows Server rows are network printing only. An office should therefore check the actual scanner driver and operating system rather than assuming that a working print queue proves document capture. The original Mac entry also limits PC-Fax to sending, while Windows network PC-Fax receiving is separately documented.

The exact standard configuration has no Wi-Fi interface. Wireless in the family guide belongs to the 7860DW, as do the named PCL6 and BR-Script emulations. Generic mobile footnotes do not establish AirPrint or Mopria for the 7460DN. Conventional fax requires suitable telephone service; its 14.4 kbit/s modem should not be replaced with the 33.6 kbit/s figure from the wireless sibling or confused with a printing rate.

Consumables and physical installation

The USA guide declares approximately 700 starter pages. TN-420 and TN-450 replacement declarations are 1200 and 2600 pages under ISO/IEC 19752, with DR-420 as a separate drum whose approximate 12000-page life depends on use. These are manufacturer declarations rather than remaining life for a particular machine or a current cost calculation. Numeric recommended monthly volume is not established in the read exact sources, so no recommendation is inferred from print speed or a generic duty-cycle footnote.

The US edition uses 110–120 V AC. The exact support table labels the body 15.95 in. wide,15.7 in. deep and 12.45 in. high, with 25.6 lb weight including toner and drum. Carton measurements and the 22.9 lb figure without those consumables describe different conditions. Allow document loading, tray extension and service access. If built-in wireless, automatic reverse-side capture or Legal glass is essential, choose an exact configuration documenting those particular needs.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original 7460/7860 branch is rated up to 27 one-sided Letter ppm; the 7360/7365 branch is 24. Its separately published duplex figure is not substituted for the simplex Letter rating.

Paper handling

The included cassette holds 250 sheets of 20 lb plain paper, including Letter/Legal/A4. Manual feed takes one suitable sheet or envelope. US automatic print duplex supports Letter, Legal and Folio, not A4.

Scanning arrangement

35-page ADF accepts single-sided originals 5.8–8.5 in wide and 5.8–14 in long. Glass accepts up to 8.5 × 11.7 in, for Letter/A4. Color scan is confirmed; the read exact routes do not establish automatic two-sided feeder capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet support compatible desktop print/scan. Wireless and PCL6/BR-Script emulations in the family guide belong to 7860DW. No AirPrint or Mopria support is inferred from generic mobile footnotes.

Supplies and declared yields

The USA guide declares approximately 700 starter pages. TN-420 and TN-450 replacement declarations are 1200 and 2600 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. DR-420 is a separate drum with an approximate 12000-page life affected by use.

Electrical edition and setup

USA 110–120 V AC 50/60 Hz. Exact US support labels body 15.95 in wide, 15.7 in deep and 12.45 in high; weight 25.6 lb with toner/drum. Carton dimensions and 22.9 lb without toner/drum are separate values. Numeric monthly guidance remains unestablished.
