Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can Ethernet combine all functions, Legal glass and feeder scans, PIN release and 300-sheet Legal duplex output?
Qualifies with compatible native Windows software and suitable separate telephone setup. Legal feeder input is simplex; exact output is rated up to 32 one-sided Letter ppm.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the DN suffix supply automatic two-sided original capture?
Fails: exact MFC-8480DN feeder duplex is expressly unavailable. Automatic print duplex is a separate function.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the included configuration support ordinary Wi-Fi?
Fails: included network use is Ethernet. Wireless hardware belongs to other exact family members.
Explore this need in the finder →Legal capture on a wired monochrome all-in-one
The Brother MFC-8480DN is an earlier monochrome laser all-in-one with color computer scanning, copying and telephone fax. Its useful fit is a compatible wired office handling Legal originals on either the glass or feeder, while needing native protected print release and automatic black output duplex. The important qualification is that automatic print duplex does not make its document feeder scan both original sides automatically.
The preserved specification page uses an Other countries selector despite its US-suffixed model key. That selector is identified honestly. The actual USA/Canada operating guide separately establishes this exact model and its US electrical edition. A failed old system-requirements link is not treated as model absence or used to invent unsupported computer functions.
Legal glass and a simplex feeder
The fifty-page feeder declaration uses staggered loading on a 20 lb paper basis. It accepts suitable simplex originals up to fourteen inches long. The separate glass also reaches fourteen inches, so Legal capture does not require substituting the feeder when the original belongs on the glass. Color capture is positively documented even though printed and copied output is monochrome.
The exact specification says duplex printing yes and duplex scanning no. The actual TWAIN chapter also explicitly excludes MFC-8480DN from automatic two-sided scanning. A fifty-page capacity or a two-sided printed copy does not remove that input limitation. Optical glass and feeder figures remain separate from interpolated resolution.
Native USB or Ethernet operations
Hi-Speed USB and included 10/100 Ethernet support ordinary compatible desktop printing and scanning. The actual TWAIN workflow selects the local scanner or its LAN entry, then sets document size, scan type and other controls. The original Server rows are network-print-only, while parallel hardware has operating-system restrictions. The ordinary plans therefore use the positively supported USB or Ethernet route.
Native Secure Print uses a four-digit panel password after user and job selection. Data clears after printing or power-off, and multiple-copy restrictions apply. Secure Function Lock and held-document release are separate features. The wireless interface belongs to other exact family members; AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct remain unestablished in the read exact sources. Telephone fax follows its separate documented phone arrangement.
Paper capacity and output rates
The cassette holds 250 sheets and the multipurpose tray another fifty on the stated plain-paper basis. Both support Letter, Legal and A4. The extra 250-sheet lower tray is optional and excluded from the base 300. Suitable envelopes use the separate multipurpose routine, with a three-envelope limit under its stated conditions.
The Basic Guide's exact US automatic-duplex list is Letter, Legal and Folio. Generic family software also names A4, so that conflicting automatic A4 output claim is not asserted. One-sided output is rated up to thirty-two Letter pages per minute, with Letter duplex separately up to fourteen printed sides per minute. No exact numerical recommended monthly volume is established in the read sources.
Supplies and the loaded body
Replacement TN-620 is approximately 3,000 Letter pages and TN-650 approximately 8,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate DR-620 drum declaration is approximately 25,000 Letter pages under its conditions. Other variants explicitly include high-yield toner; that statement is not transferred here. These figures do not establish a separate inbox yield, current operating cost or remaining consumable life.
The original body measures 20.9 × 17.8 × 18.7 inches and weighs 40.3 lb with drum and toner, rather than the neighboring 41.0 lb figure. The USA/Canada original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Leave Legal-lid, feeder, tray, rear-path, cable and maintenance room. Verify usable native software and telephone setup. If automatic original duplex or an internal radio is essential, choose an exact model documenting that function.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 32 one-sided Letter ppm; automatic Letter print duplex separately up to 14 printed sides/minute, not 14 completed sheets. No exact numerical recommended monthly volume or maximum duty established in the read sources.
Paper handling
Included 250-sheet cassette plus 50-sheet MP tray at stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis; Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary input. Extra 250-sheet lower tray is optional. Exact US Basic Guide automatic-duplex media list Letter, Legal and Folio; generic family software additionally names A4, so conflicting automatic A4 output is not asserted. Suitable envelopes use the separate MP routine, up to three under its conditions.
Scanning arrangement
50-page staggered simplex ADF at stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis, supporting originals up to 14 in.; separate glass also supports Legal up to 14 in. Actual color capture is positive. Exact MFC-8480DN automatic feeder duplex is expressly unavailable in TWAIN operation and the exact model specification; no single-pass route.
Computer and mobile connections
Included Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet and parallel hardware; 64 MB and PCL6/BR-Script 3. Wireless belongs to MFC-8690DW/MFC-8890DW and is excluded. Actual desktop USB/LAN computer capture is positive; Server rows are network-print-only. Native four-digit protected release is supported. AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct remain unestablished.
Supplies and declared yields
TN-620 replacement approximately 3,000 Letter pages and TN-650 approximately 8,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate DR-620 drum approximately 25,000 Letter pages under its usage conditions. High-yield inbox toner is explicitly identified for other family variants, not assigned here; separate inbox yield remains unestablished.
Software and support
Native Windows Secure Print waits for panel user/job selection and four-digit password; stored data clears after printing or power-off and multiple-copy restrictions apply. Secure Function Lock and native held-job release are distinct. Original parallel compatibility is restricted on later listed Windows versions, so the ordinary plan uses USB or Ethernet.
Electrical edition and setup
Actual USA/Canada body 20.9 × 17.8 × 18.7 in.; exact MFC-8480DN weight 40.3 lb with drum/toner, distinct from neighboring 41.0 lb. US original 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The preserved specification selector says Other countries and is not itself used as proof of US electrical edition. Allow Legal-lid, feeder, tray, rear-path, cable and service access; verify native software and telephone setup.
