The Brother MFC-8890DW is a discontinued monochrome laser all-in-one with color capture, copying and telephone fax. It fits a compatible office needing native protected jobs, automatic black output duplex and automatic two-sided Letter capture through USB or ordinary networking. Its important qualification is that the Legal scanner capability and the automatic duplex scanner capability have different document limits.
The exact original confirms both a glass and color capture, resolving contradictory generic sheet-fed and monochrome-scan cells on the surviving product page. The model includes a fifty-page feeder, but feeder capacity alone does not identify the physical duplex mechanism or the longest supported two-sided original.
Legal simplex, Letter or A4 duplex
The feeder's single-sided document range reaches fourteen inches, and the separate glass also accepts Legal. Its fifty-page declaration uses staggered loading on a 20 lb paper basis. Those routes are useful for loose or suitable bound Legal originals, with the ordinary document-handling instructions still applying.
Automatic two-sided feeder originals are explicitly limited to 11.7 inches long. The actual TWAIN operating chapter also says Legal is unavailable for duplex scanning. The same duplex routine also disallows prescanning and adjustable cropping. Letter and A4 automatic capture are supported; Legal simplex feeder and Legal glass support cannot be borrowed to extend that route. Reversing versus single-pass mechanics remain unestablished, so this is an automatic-duplex route without a single-pass claim.
Native connections and protected release
Included USB, 10/100 Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g Wi-Fi support compatible desktop printing and scanning. The separate DR-620 drum declaration is approximately 25,000 Letter pages under its conditions. Other variants explicitly include high-yield toner; that statement is not transferred to MFC-8890DW. A separate inbox yield, current running cost and remaining life are left unclaimed.
The loaded body measures 20.9 × 17.8 × 18.7 inches and weighs 41.0 lb. The US original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Leave Legal-lid, feeder, tray, rear-path, cable and maintenance access.
