MFC-8950DWTIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible workgroup handling two paper stocks and two-sided Legal originals through native USB or ordinary wired/wireless network software.

The main tradeoff

The exact T configuration is 23.9 inches high and 45.9 lb with consumables; its 12,000-page toner option is not the 3,000-page inbox cartridge.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can native Ethernet provide all four functions, color single-pass Legal capture, Legal print duplex, PIN release and 1,050 included sheets?

Qualifies with compatible native Windows software and suitable media. The exact T includes both 500-sheet cassettes, the 50-page ADF captures both sides in one pass and the separate glass also accepts Legal originals.

Included capacity changes the whole configuration

The Brother MFC-8950DWT is an earlier monochrome laser all-in-one supplied with two 500-sheet paper cassettes. A 50-sheet multipurpose input brings its included total to 1,050 sheets. The T suffix therefore changes the supplied paper arrangement, cabinet height and loaded weight from ordinary MFC-8950DW.

The useful fit is a compatible workgroup handling black output, two loaded stocks and regular original capture. It prints, copies, scans and faxes, with a five-inch color touchscreen. The color display and color scanner do not create color printing: this remains a monochrome output engine.

Legal glass and single-pass Legal feeder capture

The fifty-page ADF accepts suitable loose originals up to Legal size and captures both faces in a single pass. The exact product explicitly describes simultaneous two-sided capture, while the original document-size table separately permits fourteen-inch length for duplex originals. This is positive evidence for Legal single-pass input rather than an inference from automatic print duplex.

A separate 8.5-by-14-inch glass accommodates Legal pages and suitable bound material one page at a time. Empty the feeder when using the glass and leave space to open the lid. The feeder's capacity uses the stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis; curled, stapled or otherwise unsuitable pages need preparation instead of being forced through because they fit the nominal dimensions.

A native computer route is actually documented

Hi-Speed USB, Gigabit Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support compatible native computer printing and scanning. The software guide selects either the local TWAIN scanner or its LAN entry, then sets document size, color and duplex capture for the exact MFC-8950DW(T) branch. Windows XP's WIA duplex restriction should not be generalized to the separately documented TWAIN routine.

The product-linked “MFC8950DWT system requirements” PDF actually opens as a DCP-9045CDN document. It is excluded here; the precise Basic and Software User Guides establish the route instead. Original computer lists still require a usable driver for the intended system. AirPrint and Wi-Fi Direct are separate printing arrangements, with no assumption that every mobile app provides all native scanning controls.

Two kinds of duplex and a protected document

Automatic print duplex in the US operation uses Letter, Legal or Folio with suitable stock. Ordinary A4 input does not expand that output list. The two cassettes and MP input all accommodate ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 within their documented ranges, on the declared plain-paper basis. The lower cassette is explicitly standard on this T model.

A native protected print document waits for its four-digit password at the touchscreen. The operator selects the user and job, enters the password and releases the copies; secure data clears after printing or power-off. This is separate from account restrictions, general network security and phone printing, and it requires the compatible native driver routine.

Supplies and the taller installation

The output rate is up to 42 one-sided Letter pages per minute. Automatic Letter print duplex is separately eighteen sides, or nine sheets, per minute. No exact numerical recurring monthly recommendation is established in the read material. The original inbox toner declaration is approximately 3,000 pages; the 12,000-page TN-780 is a replacement option, alongside TN-720 and TN-750, under ISO/IEC 19752. The DR-720 drum is separate.

The exact T body measures 19.3 × 16.3 × 23.9 inches and weighs 45.9 lb with consumables. The ordinary model's 18.8-inch height and 39.0 lb weight do not describe this supplied configuration. The US original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Allow feeder, glass-lid, cassette, MP, rear-path, cable and service access beyond the closed cabinet, and inspect the actual earlier unit before relying on it for ongoing work.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact one-sided Letter output up to 42 ppm; automatic Letter print duplex separately up to 18 sides / 9 sheets per minute. Color capture does not create color printing. Numeric recommended monthly volume and maximum duty remain unestablished in the exact sources read.

Paper handling

Exact T configuration includes two 500-sheet cassettes plus 50-sheet MP input, totaling 1,050 sheets on the 20 lb / 80 g/m² plain-paper basis for Letter, Legal and A4. Original footnote makes Tray 2 standard on MFC-8950DWT. US automatic print duplex is Letter, Legal and Folio; ordinary A4 input does not establish US A4 print duplex.

Scanning arrangement

50-page ADF on the stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis accepts simplex and duplex documents 5.8–8.5 in. wide and 5.8–14 in. long. Exact product positively documents simultaneous single-pass two-sided scan/copy/fax. Separate glass maximum 8.5 × 14 in. supports Legal books/pages one at a time. Original native TWAIN operation selects local or LAN scanner; Windows XP WIA duplex restriction does not negate the TWAIN route.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Hi-Speed USB, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, AirPrint and Wi-Fi Direct. Native four-digit per-document release is a separate driver/panel routine. Mopria remains unestablished. The product-linked 613 system PDF actually identifies DCP-9045CDN and is excluded as route evidence.

Supplies and declared yields

Original approximately 3,000-page inbox toner; TN-720 replacement approximately 3,000, TN-750 approximately 8,000 and TN-780 approximately 12,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate DR-720 drum approximately 30,000 pages at one page per job under stated conditions.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact T body 19.3 × 16.3 × 23.9 in. and 45.9 lb with consumables; ordinary DW height 18.8 in. and 39.0 lb are different columns. US 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Leave feeder, glass-lid, cassette, MP, rear-path, cable and service access. Verify usable native software for the intended computers.
