The Brother MFC-9460CDN is a discontinued color laser all-in-one with USB and Ethernet. It prints, copies, scans and faxes, with a thirty-five-page feeder and automatic two-sided printing. Its useful fit is a compatible wired workgroup that wants color documents and native computer capture without requiring built-in wireless or automatic two-sided original scanning.
The surviving product page contains generic cells describing monochrome scanning and a sheet-fed copying design. The exact US specifications and original operating guide establish color scanning, color copying and a separate glass. Those precise sources define the configuration rather than allowing the contaminated generic cells to turn it into another machine.
A Legal feeder beside a shorter glass
The ADF accepts suitable simplex originals up to Legal length. Its thirty-five-page rating uses staggered loading on the stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis. The separate glass is up to 8.5 by 11.7 inches, suitable for Letter/A4 pages and appropriate bound material but shorter than Legal. A Legal feeder therefore does not qualify a requirement for a Legal flatbed.
The software's automatic duplex-scanning operation is expressly reserved for other named models. It is not transferred to MFC-9460CDN from a shared guide or from the printer's automatic output duplex. Likewise, single-pass wording in the print-engine specification does not establish a single-pass document scanner.
Native drivers establish local and network scanning
The actual TWAIN routine selects either the local Brother scanner or its LAN entry, then sets document size, scan type and other controls. Compatible native Windows software can therefore use USB or ordinary 10/100 Ethernet for color computer capture. Original Server printing entries are not treated as proof of scanner support, and a front flash-drive port is a different arrangement from desktop USB.
The exact controller includes 128 MB memory. Wireless networking belongs to the MFC-9560CDW branch, while AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct remain unestablished here. Verify usable native software for the intended computer, and keep telephone fax setup separate from the computer network rather than assuming an Ethernet connection guarantees a particular telephone service.
Paper handling and protected release
The included 250-sheet cassette and fifty-sheet MP tray total 300 plain sheets. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 are supported within the documented media ranges. The lower 500-sheet cassette is optional, so the supplied machine does not qualify an 800-sheet included-capacity requirement. Suitable envelopes use the MP path and their specified settings.
Automatic print duplex in the US edition supports Letter, Legal and Folio. The native Secure Print routine holds a document for its four-digit panel password, with secure data cleared after printing or power-off. Its driver notes include restrictions on multiple-copy secure jobs. This particular held-document routine is distinct from general account security and does not create automatic input duplex.

Brother rates black and color output up to twenty-five one-sided Letter pages per minute. Automatic Letter print duplex is separately fourteen sides, or seven sheets, per minute. The inbox toner declaration is approximately 2,500 black and 1,500 each color pages; TN-310 and TN-315 replacements have separate ISO/IEC 19798 yields, with drum, belt and waste components maintained separately.

Leave room for feeder loading, the glass lid, MP input, cassettes, rear path, cables and servicing.
