Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can native Wi-Fi combine all functions, Legal duplex output, color Legal feeder scans, PIN release and 250 sheets?
Qualifies with compatible native Windows software, suitable paper and separate telephone setup. Legal feeder input is simplex; exact one-sided Letter output is rated up to 30 ppm within the 2,000-page monthly recommendation.
Explore this need in the finder →Can automatic two-sided feeder scanning be essential?
Fails: exact MFC-L2720DW duplex scanning is unavailable. Automatic print duplex and two-sided output from one-sided originals do not supply that input route.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require Legal originals on both glass and feeder?
Fails: the feeder accepts Legal, but the glass maximum is 11.8 inches long. Each required scanner route must support the selected size.
Explore this need in the finder →Protected native jobs and ordinary single-sided originals
The Brother MFC-L2720DW is a discontinued monochrome laser all-in-one with color scanning, copying and telephone fax. It fits a compatible home office needing black duplex output, native protected-job release and computer capture from ordinary single-sided originals. USB, Ethernet and ordinary Wi-Fi are included. The thirty-five-page feeder accepts Legal, but automatic two-sided original capture is not included.
The neighboring MFC-L2740DW is a material boundary. Its shared guide includes automatic input duplex and a faster Letter rate for that model, not this one. The exact L2720DW has sixty-four megabytes, a 2.7-inch color touchscreen and a simplex feeder. Color capture and a color display do not change monochrome printed output.
Legal feeder capture and shorter glass
The ADF accepts suitable originals up to fourteen inches long, with capacity stated on a 20 lb paper basis. The separate glass reaches 8.5 by 11.8 inches, supporting Letter/A4 and appropriate bound originals. It is shorter than Legal, so a requirement for both Legal feeder and Legal glass fails on the glass.
The exact product record says no duplex scanning. Creating two-sided copies or fax output from one-sided originals concerns output paper, rather than automatic capture of both original sides. The actual ControlCenter workflow saves a scan to the selected computer and explicitly selects a destination computer for network use. Optical glass and feeder specifications remain separate from interpolated resolution.
Native PIN release on documented desktop routes
Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support compatible desktop printing and computer scanning. The original desktop function table positively establishes those arrangements; Server rows are network-print-only. Telephone fax keeps its separately documented phone setup instead of becoming a feature of the network socket.
The actual Secure Print chapter explicitly names MFC-L2720DW. It sets a separate four-digit password for each protected document, then uses touchscreen user and job selection for release. Printed protected data clears, as does stored data at power-off. AirPrint and Wi-Fi Direct are separately documented printing arrangements; neither supplies the native password or desktop-scanning workflow automatically. Mopria remains unestablished in the exact readings.
Paper capacity, duplex sizes and workload
The included cassette holds 250 sheets on the stated 20 lb plain-paper basis, with a separate single-sheet manual path for suitable envelopes and other instructed stock. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 input is supported. The exact US automatic print-duplex list is Letter, Legal and Folio; ordinary A4 feeding does not extend that list.
The exact L2720DW rate is up to thirty one-sided Letter pages per minute, rather than the L2740DW's thirty-two. Letter automatic duplex is separately up to fifteen printed sides or seven and a half sheets per minute. These are maker declarations, not personal measurements. Recommended monthly output is 250–2,000 pages, with a distinct 10,000 maximum-duty figure that does not replace the recommendation.
Supplies and the actual cabinet
The starter toner declaration is approximately 700 pages. Replacement TN-630 is approximately 1,200 and TN-660 approximately 2,600 Letter/A4 simplex pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The separate DR-630 drum declaration is approximately 12,000 pages at one page per job under its conditions. Those figures do not establish current operating cost or remaining consumable life.
The body measures 16.1 × 15.7 × 12.5 inches and weighs 25.4 lb with supplies. The US original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Leave feeder, glass-lid, paper-path, cable and maintenance room. Verify usable native software and telephone setup, and do not assume named historical cloud services remain operational. If automatic original duplex or Legal glass is essential, compare an exact model documenting that different route.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 30 one-sided Letter ppm for MFC-L2720DW, not MFC-L2740DW 32. Automatic Letter print duplex is separately up to 15 printed sides / 7.5 sheets per minute. Recommended 250–2,000 pages monthly differs from 10,000 maximum duty.
Paper handling
250-sheet cassette at stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis plus one-sheet manual path. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 supported. Exact US automatic output-duplex list Letter, Legal and Folio with appropriate stock; ordinary A4 feeding does not extend that list. Suitable envelopes use the separately instructed manual routine.
Scanning arrangement
35-page ADF on stated 20 lb / 80 g/m² basis; simplex originals up to 8.5 × 14 in. Separate glass maximum 8.5 × 11.8 in. supports Letter/A4, not Legal. Color computer capture is positive. Exact product says no duplex scanning; shared automatic input branch is only MFC-L2740DW. Optical glass/ADF resolutions are separate from interpolated resolution.
Computer and mobile connections
Included Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet, ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and separately documented Wi-Fi Direct; 64 MB and 2.7-inch color touchscreen. Native four-digit Secure Print is exact-model confirmed. AirPrint uses its compatible network arrangement. Mopria remains unestablished in the read exact record; a generic neighboring protocol is not transferred.
Supplies and declared yields
Approximately 700-page starter toner; TN-630 replacement approximately 1,200 and TN-660 approximately 2,600 Letter/A4 simplex pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Separate DR-630 drum approximately 12,000 pages at one page per job under its usage conditions. No current cost or remaining-life estimate.
Software and support
Native Windows Secure Print requires a separate four-digit password for each document, panel user/job selection and release; stored data clears after printing or power-off. Desktop USB/LAN scanning and network destination selection are positive. AirPrint and peer printing are separate from that native PIN/capture arrangement. Historical cloud-service names are not promises of current operation.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact body 16.1 × 15.7 × 12.5 in.; loaded weight 25.4 lb, distinct from L2740DW 25.8 lb. US original 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Allow feeder, glass-lid, cassette, manual-feed, rear-path, cable and service access. Verify usable native software and separate telephone arrangement on the actual earlier unit.
