The Brother MFC-L8850CDW is a discontinued color laser all-in-one with a fifty-page single-pass duplex feeder and a full Legal glass. It fits a compatible workgroup handling two-sided Legal originals while producing color documents and releasing supported native jobs by PIN. Its included paper capacity is 300 ordinary sheets, with USB, Ethernet and ordinary Wi-Fi connections.
The exact original distinguishes it from MFC-L8600CDW and MFC-L9550CDW. The L8850CDW has the larger glass, fifty-page duplex feeder and 4.85-inch touchscreen, but not the L9550CDW's toner package or restricted super-high-yield supplies. The single-pass color printing engine is also a separate description from the positively documented single-pass scanner.
Two-sided Legal originals are actually supported
The original document table explicitly gives both single-sided and two-sided feeder originals a maximum fourteen-inch length. The separate glass also reaches fourteen inches. Feeder capacity is stated on a 20 lb paper basis. That provides a real Legal duplex route, rather than assuming any Legal feeder can automatically scan both sides at that size.
The actual ControlCenter 4 chapter names MFC-L8850CDW and requires the ADF for automatic two-sided capture. It selects the binding orientation, then color, file and destination controls. The Basic Guide also documents local computer capture and network destination selection. The glass remains a separate route for appropriate bound originals, while optical and interpolated resolution figures retain their different meanings.
Native protected release and connection limits
Included Hi-Speed USB, 10/100 Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support compatible native desktop printing and scanning. Ethernet is not the Gigabit interface found on some later models. Original Server compatibility rows are network-print-only. Telephone fax keeps its separate documented line arrangement rather than being described as an Ethernet function.
The exact Windows Secure Print chapter sets a separate four-digit password for each protected document, then selects the user and job at the panel for release. Printed data clears, as does stored data at power-off. AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct are separately documented printing arrangements; they do not automatically carry that native PIN or computer-scanning workflow. A front flash-memory routine is another distinct operation.
Included input and stated Letter output
The cassette holds 250 sheets and the multipurpose tray another fifty on the stated plain-paper basis. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4. The LT-320CL lower tray is optional, so reaching 800 sheets requires additional hardware. Suitable envelopes use the multipurpose routine, while glossy stock has a separate single-sheet qualification.
The exact US automatic print-duplex list is Letter, Legal and Folio, rather than every ordinary input size. One-sided output is rated up to thirty-two Letter pages per minute in black or color, distinct from the L8600CDW's thirty. Letter print duplex is separately up to fourteen printed sides or seven sheets per minute. No exact numerical recommended monthly volume is established in the read sources.
Supply boundaries and the larger cabinet
Included toner is approximately 2,500 black pages and 1,500 each color pages under ISO/IEC 19798. Replacement TN-331 uses those standard yields, while TN-336 increases black to approximately 4,000 and colors to approximately 3,500. TN-339 is explicitly restricted to MFC-L9550CDW. Drum, belt and waste box remain separate maintenance items; their one-page and five-page job bases are not interchangeable.
The loaded cabinet measures 19.3 × 20.7 × 20.9 inches and weighs 67.4 lb. The US original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz.
