Its useful fit is a compatible Windows workgroup needing color Legal capture, native protected print release and a documented recommendation up to 4,000 printed pages monthly. Its seven-inch touchscreen and exact toner compatibility distinguish it from neighboring family members.
The surviving product page does not display a discontinued banner, but the actual Brother replacement-model table lists MFC-L8905CDW under Discontinued Product. It is therefore treated as an earlier reference. A surviving manufacturer page or historical software table is not a claim of current stock or universal current-host compatibility.
Single-pass capture and separate paper functions
The exact brochure explicitly confirms single-pass copying, scanning and fax input. The original feeder document range reaches fourteen inches, and the separate glass also accepts Legal. Feeder capacity uses a 20 lb paper basis. The native automatic computer-capture workflow and the model's document limits establish a Legal single-pass route, rather than inferring it from a fast scan rate.
The included cassette holds 250 sheets and the multipurpose tray another fifty on the stated ordinary-paper basis. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4. Reaching 1,300 sheets needs optional trays. Exact US automatic print duplex accepts Letter, Legal, Folio and Mexico Legal. Suitable envelopes use the separate multipurpose routine, while glossy stock has a single-sheet qualification.
Native Windows release and the macOS qualification
USB, Gigabit Ethernet and ordinary 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi support compatible native Windows printing and computer scanning. Secure Print sets a separate four-digit password for a document, then releases the selected user and job at the panel. Protected data clears after printing or power-off. Server rows remain network-print-only, while telephone fax keeps its separate line arrangement.
The exact brochure says macOS printing and scanning require AirPrint and that Mac printer drivers are not provided. That later specific qualification takes precedence over older shared compatibility tables. AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct remain separate documented printing arrangements; they do not inherit the native Windows PIN workflow. Front flash scanning/printing and rear external-reader use are also distinct host-socket routines.
Declared rates and recurring workload

TN437 belongs to this exact model
The included toner declaration is approximately 3,000 black pages and 1,800 each color pages. Standard TN431, high-yield TN433 and super-high-yield TN436 are distinct options. The original specifically reserves TN437 compatibility in this family for MFC-L8905CDW, with approximately 9,000 black and 8,000 each color pages under ISO/IEC 19798. That compatibility is not transferred to MFC-L8900CDW.
Drum, belt and waste-toner box have separate maintenance lives and conditions. Their job-length bases matter, and the declarations do not establish current running cost or remaining life. The loaded body measures 19.5 × 20.7 × 21.6 inches and weighs 65.4 lb. The US original specifies 110–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz. Leave Legal-lid, feeder, paper-path, cable and service access, and verify usable software and the actual telephone and tray arrangement.
