Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can LBP654Cdw print color Legal documents automatically on both faces with native PIN collection over Ethernet?
Yes. Native Secured Print is supported, and the actual paper table positively marks Legal duplex for eligible media. Install the exact driver and release the held job at the panel. Mobile output does not inherit that PIN workflow.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it scan paper originals to that computer?
No. LBP654Cdw is print-only, without glass or ADF. Network or I-Fax output does not add original capture.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the base configuration include 850 input sheets?
No. Included input is 250 + 50, or 300 sheets. The additional 550-sheet cassette is optional.

The Canon Color imageCLASS LBP654Cdw is a print-only color laser with automatic duplex, a five-inch color touchscreen and native PIN-held job collection. It suits an office that already has an original-capture arrangement and wants a supported color output queue.
Its exact U.S. language list includes UFR II, PCL 5c/6 and Adobe PostScript, alongside documented file interpreters. These capabilities belong to LBP654Cdw; the smaller LBP612Cdw’s language and supply configuration should not be substituted merely because both share a manual.
Keep the native queue and paper registration aligned
Install the exact supported printer driver, register the loaded size and type at the machine, then select the queue and Preferences or Properties in the application. Configure the job before printing and check the resulting settings rather than relying on the default profile.
The actual guide marks Letter, Legal and A4 for automatic two-sided output. The media table then determines which stock categories can use that path. This is more precise than treating the longest supported sheet or heaviest listed medium as automatically duplex-capable.
For this model, the Heavy 2 and Heavy 3 categories through 163 gsm are marked for duplex, as are the listed coated categories. Labels and envelopes are excluded. The lower model has different heavy-paper restrictions, which are not imported into this configuration.
Count the included paper sources before optional expansion
The base machine combines a 250-sheet drawer with a fifty-sheet multipurpose source under the operating guide’s stated paper-weight basis. An optional 550-sheet cassette raises capacity only when that hardware is actually present.
If an additional cassette is fitted after the driver, update the driver’s Device Settings so it knows about the source. A physical attachment and a correctly configured queue are separate requirements. The general input figure is not treated as a verified quantity for every exact paper size.
Use the actual media and loading rules for envelopes or specialty stock. Corrections for paper curl or wrinkles can reduce speed or affect image appearance, so stronger correction settings are not an unconditional quality upgrade.
PIN-held collection has an actual release procedure
Choose Secured Print in the native driver’s Output Method and send the document with the required identification and PIN. It remains in machine memory until released or until the configured retention period expires.
On the touchscreen select Secure Print, choose the job checkbox and Start, then enter the PIN and apply it. Jobs with differing PINs need the appropriate separate selection. Retained work occupies memory, so a held queue should be collected promptly.
This workflow is different from a system-management login or network authentication. It is also not automatically present in AirPrint merely because the same machine offers Apple output.
Mobile output uses its own connection and application
AirPrint supports a same-LAN Apple device, a direct wireless arrangement or a USB-connected Mac under the documented operating-system conditions. Enable AirPrint and IPP, choose the printer in a compatible application and set the available options there.
The actual direct-mode procedure uses Mobile Portal and Connect, followed by the displayed network information or supported QR/NFC routine. End the connection when finished. A mobile device’s internet access may differ while using the direct path, and leaving that path active affects sleep behavior.
Available Apple settings and paper sizes depend on the application. The native driver’s exact paper controls and PIN release are therefore kept in their own verified plan.
Separate supplied toner from replacement ratings
The actual guide rates supplied 046 toner at 1,100 black pages and 1,200 for each color. Standard replacements are rated for 2,200 black and 2,300 color pages, with high-capacity versions at 6,300 black and five thousand color pages under ISO/IEC 19798 on A4 at default density.
Canon rates one-sided plain Letter output at twenty-eight pages per minute in black and color, with a separate twenty-three-page duplex rating. The recommended monthly range is 750–4,000 pages, distinct from the fifty-thousand-page maximum duty.
The actual body measures 18¾ by 18½ by 14⅞ inches and weighs 46.3 pounds including toner. Allow extra space for the opened paper path and servicing, and provide the specified U.S. supply. Its output-focused role is strongest when those physical and native-software requirements fit the intended office routine.
