Color imageCLASS MF624CwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Occasional color output and one-sided document capture using a supported native or documented Mac workflow.

The main tradeoff

Automatic print duplex, automatic two-sided original capture, fax and PIN-held Secure Print are excluded for this model.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can MF624Cw print color Legal pages and scan single-sided Legal originals to a computer through supported native Ethernet?

Yes. Native Letter/Legal/A4 output and registered IPv4 LAN scanning are supported. Legal originals use the simplex feeder, while the glass is limited to Letter/A4. This arrangement does not require automatic duplex.

Will it automatically print both sides of Letter documents?

No. The shared guide explicitly reserves the automatic two-sided output procedure for MF729Cdw and MF726Cdw. MF624Cw requires a separately handled manual back-side routine.

Can this three-in-one replace an analog fax machine?

No. The exact model omits fax. The shared panel guide identifies Fax only for MF729Cdw, MF726Cdw and MF628Cw.

A color three-in-one for single-sided paperwork

The Canon Color imageCLASS MF624Cw combines color printing, copying and scanning, with a 50-sheet simplex document feeder. It suits a modest queue of color documents and ordinary one-sided originals, provided automatic two-sided output and analog fax are not essential.

The shared family guide needs careful reading. Its automatic print duplex, two-sided original capture and Secure Print procedures belong to MF729Cdw and MF726Cdw. Its Fax control includes MF628Cw but excludes MF624Cw. Those differences affect everyday work much more than the common color touch screen suggests.

Legal originals go through the feeder

The glass accommodates Letter and A4 originals; the feeder reaches Legal. That makes the feeder the useful route for a signed Legal form, while a book page or fragile item uses the smaller glass. Its 50-sheet capacity is specified with Letter paper at 80 gsm, rather than every possible document weight and size.

The feeder reads one side. A stack of two-sided originals therefore needs separate handling of the reverse sides and subsequent file organization. A family-menu illustration showing a two-sided original button does not turn this feeder into an automatic duplex scanner.

Set up the actual computer scanning route

USB, Fast Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi support computer use. The native output language is UFR II LT. Install the exact supported printer and scanner software rather than assuming that another family model’s PCL or PostScript driver is interchangeable.

For a wired or wireless LAN, the actual preparation chapter requires registration in MF Network Scanner Selector. It specifies IPv4 for that scanning arrangement; an IPv6-only connection does not meet the documented route. USB avoids that registration step, but the machine must be awake before USB scanning.

MF Scan Utility provides a normal computer capture path. A compatible application can also invoke ScanGear MF directly. Its simple controls distinguish a color glass source from a color ADF source, then let the user choose an output purpose, size and scan command. Select the source that matches the original’s placement instead of relying on an application’s previous setting.

Apple capture has its own preparation

The guide also documents AirPrint scanning to a Mac running OS X 10.9 or later, either on the same LAN or through USB. For USB, set the connected-computer selection to Mac OS; enable Network Link Scan as instructed.

Add the machine in Printers & Scanners, select Scan and Open Scanner, then configure the intended capture. If automatic online mode is disabled, put the device into Remote Scanner mode first. Another active print, copy or settings operation can prevent the scan from starting. AirPrint output is available too, but its paper choices depend on the application rather than duplicating every native driver option.

A small drawer with media-specific limits

The standard sources are a 150-sheet drawer and a one-sheet manual slot, with the normal drawer quantity specified at 60–90 gsm. The single-sheet route is useful for an occasional alternate medium; it is not another stack tray. The larger family member’s optional cassette is not included here.

Letter, Legal and A4 are documented normal output sizes. Special stock reduces capacity: the paper table gives different quantities for heavy and coated paper, labels and index cards. Envelopes are limited to ten in the drawer or one in the manual slot. Follow the exact size, weight and loading instructions instead of applying the plain-paper count to all stock.

The printer does not provide automatic two-sided output. The manual’s back-side routine requires reloading previously printed paper correctly; that is an attended process. Allow additional room for the extended Legal drawer, document access and servicing.

Account for starter color supplies and installed weight

The supplied 131 cartridges are rated for 800 black pages and 800 composite-color pages. Replacement 131 Black is rated for 1,400, or 2,400 with 131 H Black; replacement composite color is rated for 1,500. The guide uses ISO/IEC 19798, A4 and default density. Those declarations do not predict a particular office’s yield or establish a cost per page.

Canon rates continuous one-sided plain Letter output at up to 14 ppm in either color or black. Its 30,000-page maximum monthly duty figure is not a recommended sustained workload. The closed body measures 17 by 19⅛ by 16⅞ inches and weighs 57.3 lb with toner. A buyer needing frequent unattended two-sided work should choose a model whose exact output and original-handling capabilities both meet that routine.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 14 one-sided continuous plain Letter ppm in either color or black. Larger family models’ 21 ppm and duplex rates do not apply.

Paper handling

150-sheet drawer plus a one-sheet manual slot at 60–90 gsm. Heavy/coated stock has lower separate limits; envelopes are 10 in the drawer or one in the slot. No automatic duplex unit is established for MF624Cw.

Scanning arrangement

50-sheet simplex feeder at Letter/80 gsm reaches Legal. Glass is Letter/A4. Other models’ automatic two-sided original feature is excluded.

Computer and mobile connections

USB, Fast Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi support exact native computer capture. IPv4 LAN scanning needs scanner registration; USB scanning needs an awake device. AirPrint and Mopria are listed.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied 131: 800 black and 800 composite-color pages. Replacement 131 Black: 1,400; 131 H Black: 2,400; composite C/M/Y: 1,500. The guide specifies ISO/IEC 19798, A4 and default density; actual coverage changes yield.

Software and support

Three-in-one color model with UFR II LT native output. Fax and Secure Print controls belong to other specified family models. Maximum monthly duty is 30,000 pages; a recommended monthly range is unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact closed body is 17 by 19⅛ by 16⅞ inches and 57.3 lb with toner, versus 52.9 lb without. U.S. 120–127 V, 60 Hz is documented. Legal drawer use needs additional access space.
