Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can MF8050Cn scan a Legal stack in color to a registered Ethernet computer while serving as the office color printer and fax?
Yes. The actual panel procedure supports USB or network computer capture, and the feeder accepts Legal. Register the computer in MF Network Scan Utility and use the appropriate scan preset; the glass is smaller than Legal.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it automatically print both sides of the office Letter documents?
No. The shared operating guide explicitly reserves automatic two-sided printing for MF8350Cdn. That function is not inherited by MF8050Cn.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I scan a Legal original flat on its glass?
No. The glass is limited to the Letter/A4 class, while Legal original handling belongs to the feeder.

The Canon Color imageCLASS MF8050Cn is an earlier four-function color laser built around a small cassette, a document feeder and USB or Fast Ethernet computer connections. It can make sense in an established office that needs color output and batch original capture without requiring a large paper reserve.
The main tradeoff is automatic two-sided printing. Although the shared operating guide discusses it prominently, that feature belongs to MF8350Cdn. MF8050Cn should be evaluated as a one-sided output machine rather than treated as the same hardware with a lower speed setting.
The native queue handles layout and color choices
Install the supported UFR II LT driver for the intended USB or network connection. The driver converts application output for the printer and provides the documented layout, scaling and finishing controls. Historical operating-system illustrations are examples of that workflow, not a promise of present-day compatibility.
Page Size describes the source document, while Output Size can scale it to another sheet. Check both when an application and driver each offer enlargement. Combining unrelated scaling controls can produce a result that differs from the intended page dimensions.
The driver also offers multiple pages per sheet, profiles and monochrome output of color documents. These are useful layout choices, but they do not create an automatic duplex unit. The machine’s job-status controls let an operator inspect or cancel waiting output at the panel.
Register the computer before network capture
The actual guide positively documents computer scanning over both USB and the network. Load the original, choose Scan and Computer at the panel, select the destination computer and then a configured Scan-1 through Scan-4 preset.
For a network installation, register the scanner in MF Network Scan Utility. The panel displays only the first ten network computers, so a larger registration list can explain a missing destination. The USB-connected computer appears first when more than one route is present.
Default presets include color PDF, color JPEG and monochrome TIFF choices. Adjust the storage location, file type and resolution in the computer software when necessary. Close the MF Toolbox settings window before initiating panel scanning, because leaving it open can prevent that operation.
Legal originals belong in the feeder
The glass accepts originals in the Letter/A4 class; the feeder extends original handling to Legal. Its fifty-sheet limit uses the specified 80 gsm basis. Fan and align suitable originals, extend the support for long documents and keep staples, curled sheets and unsuitable media out of the feeder.
The two capture paths also have different optical specifications: the actual appendix lists 600 by 600 dpi for the glass and 300 by 300 dpi for the feeder. An interpolated software number should not be substituted for either physical rating.
A separate USB-memory routine saves PDF to directly connected FAT-formatted media. That is useful without a selected computer destination, but it is a different operation from scanning through the desktop software or sharing a network folder.
Do not borrow the larger model’s paper hardware
MF8050Cn includes a 150-sheet cassette and a one-sheet manual feed slot under the guide’s normal plain-paper conditions. Specialty-media capacities differ. The larger model’s fifty-sheet multipurpose tray and optional V1 cassette are not included features here.
Keep the cassette inserted even when using the manual slot. Support the single sheet until the slot catches it, then register the loaded size and type. The actual model-specific footnote also permits Monarch envelopes in the MF8050 cassette; it should not be replaced by a generic restriction from the other variant.
Supplied toner and replacement toner are different ratings
The original supplied MF8050 toner is rated for eight hundred black and eight hundred composite color pages. Replacement Cartridge 116 ratings are 2,300 black and 1,500 composite color pages under ISO/IEC 19798 using A4 and default density. Cartridge 118 belongs to the other model.
Canon rates one-sided Letter output at twelve black or eight color pages per minute. The thirty-thousand-page maximum duty is not a recommended monthly target. The actual loaded body weighs 55.1 pounds and measures seventeen by 19⅛ by 16⅞ inches, with additional operating space needed around it. Those practical limits favor a supported, relatively small office routine over a high-volume replacement assumption.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact one-sided Letter print ratings: 12 black and 8 color ppm. Maximum duty 30000 is not a recommended sustained volume. Copy and scanner timing are separate figures.
Paper handling
150-sheet cassette plus one-sheet manual slot; media type changes quantity. Manual slot requires cassette installed. MF8350-only automatic duplex and optional V1 expansion excluded. MF8050 accepts Monarch in its cassette under the actual model-specific footnote.
Scanning arrangement
Color glass up to Letter/A4 and fifty-sheet feeder through Legal at 80 gsm. Glass optical 600x 600 dpi, feeder 300x 300 dpi. No automatic two-sided feeder route established.
Computer and mobile connections
USB and Fast Ethernet native print/scan. MF Network Scan Utility registers network computers. No built-in Wi-Fi or mobile protocol assumed. Analog fax is a separate phone-line function.
Supplies and declared yields
MF8050 supplied black and composite color toner: 800 pages each. Replacement Cartridge 116 black 2300/composite CMY1500, ISO/IEC 19798 A4 default density. Cartridge 118 belongs to MF8350. Monochrome work can affect color toner life.
Software and support
UFR II LT native print, MF Toolbox/computer scan and separate fax driver. USB memory capture is FAT-formatted PDF-only and does not establish network sharing or desktop scanning through a flash drive.
Electrical edition and setup
Actual body 17 by 19⅛ by 16⅞ inches;55.1 lb including toner, versus web 52 lb without. U.S. 120–127 V, 60 Hz. Installation space exceeds body dimensions; confirm current supported software independently.
