imageCLASS D1620 (2223C024)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A workgroup needing color capture of Legal originals on either the glass or the automatic feeder.

The main tradeoff

It has no telephone fax hardware, and the 2,300-sheet maximum requires three optional cassettes.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can D1620 scan Legal originals on the glass and in a single-pass feeder while printing Letter duplex on Ethernet?

Yes, with the installed native print and scanning software. Both document routes accept Legal; the included Letter input is 650 sheets. Canon recommends 2,000–7,500 pages monthly. The machine prints monochrome and captures color.

Does this exact D1620 include telephone fax as well as its Send functions?

No. The original model matrix and brochure restrict fax to D1650. Scanned-file sending and I-Fax do not add a telephone fax modem to D1620.

Will the standard package satisfy a 2,300-sheet input requirement?

No. The standard Letter arrangement holds 650. Reaching 2,300 requires three optional 550-sheet cassettes.

Legal scanning is the reason to consider D1620

The Canon imageCLASS D1620 is an earlier monochrome multifunction reference for a workgroup that needs a genuine Legal-size glass as well as a two-sided feeder. Its U.S. item is 2223C024. That combination makes it relevant for longer originals that cannot safely travel through an automatic feeder, while its single-pass input handles suitable stacks without manually turning each page.

The deciding boundary is fax. D1620 prints, copies, scans and sends files, but the actual model matrix and series brochure reserve telephone fax for D1650. The shared manual contains fax chapters because it covers both machines. A Send button, Internet Fax reference or similarly shaped enclosure does not give D1620 that missing modem. D1650's NFC feature is also excluded from this exact model.

Use either document route within its physical limits

The glass accepts an original up to 8.5 by 14 inches, so Legal placement is positively supported. Use it for bound, delicate or irregular material that fits, following the stated thickness and placement instructions. Unlike smaller-glass multifunction printers, the feeder is not the only way to capture a full Legal page.

The single-pass duplex feeder has a 50-sheet Letter capacity at the specified 80 gsm basis and accepts originals up to Legal. The operating guide gives a 50–105 gsm input range. Remove clips and avoid curled, torn, coated or otherwise unsuitable originals. Automatic two-sided capture does not make every fragile document appropriate for feeding.

The scanner captures color even though the print engine is monochrome. Separate color and black-and-white scan rates depend on resolution and mode; they are not the printer's speed. Canon's U.S. brochure declares up to 45 one-sided Letter ppm. Its recommended monthly range is 2,000–7,500 pages, a more useful planning reference than treating a maximum-load headline as the desired recurring workload.

Printing and computer capture need their own setup

Native computer operation can use USB, Gigabit Ethernet or the configured wireless LAN. Install the print driver and the scanning components. For Windows network capture, register the machine in MF Network Scanner Selector. The actual preparation chapter excludes IPv6 scanning, directing users to IPv4 or USB instead.

MF Scan Utility provides computer capture, and ScanGear MF exposes more detailed settings. A suitable TWAIN or WIA application can receive the image directly. If automatic online mode is disabled, bring Remote Scanner online at the panel before starting the application. With USB, exit sleep mode when the guide requires it. These preparations explain why a successful printed page does not by itself demonstrate a working scan-to-computer arrangement.

AirPrint and Mopria provide separate mobile printing routes on a suitable shared network. Wi-Fi Direct is another explicitly supported connection through the printer hotspot. Use the compatible application and its available controls; do not assume that every native driver option appears in each mobile path.

Included paper and temporary PIN release

The supplied configuration combines a 550-sheet cassette and a 100-sheet stack bypass for 650 normal Letter sheets at the brochure's stated weight. The 2,300-sheet maximum requires three optional 550-sheet cassettes. If a seller illustrates a floor-standing stack, verify which trays are physically included rather than counting accessories from the photograph.

The actual operating tables confirm automatic two-sided Letter, Legal and A4 printing. Envelopes and labels follow the bypass routine and are excluded from automatic duplex. Match the loaded paper size and type at the machine and in the driver. If an optional cassette is added later, update the driver's device configuration so it knows the extra source exists.

Secure Print is included as a native-driver function. Submit a protected job using the secured output method, select it on the touchscreen and enter its PIN. Memory capacity and the deletion timer limit how long the job remains available. Close a conflicting Remote Scanner screen before release. Optional encrypted-PDF and card-reader features are separate accessories, not prerequisites that should be silently bundled into the standard configuration.

Supplies and the exact model's footprint

The original operating guide rates both the supplied toner and replacement Cartridge 121 at 5,000 pages using ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. Actual document coverage changes consumption. No current supply price or measured cost per page is assumed here.

The manual gives D1620 its own closed-body width: 18.875 inches, with 18.25 inches of depth and 17.75 inches of height. The wider shared webpage figure should not replace that model-specific column. Leave additional room to open the Legal glass and load paper. Choose D1620 for its documented long-original capture and included paper capacity; compare a fax-equipped model if telephone fax is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact U.S. brochure declares up to 45 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 36 Legal ppm. The operating specification links printer speed to its 45.5 Letter continuous-copy/print internal test; that different declaration is not silently substituted.

Paper handling

650 standard Letter sheets at 20 lb bond: 550-sheet cassette plus 100-sheet stack bypass. Up to three 550-sheet cassettes are optional; 2,300 is the expanded maximum. Actual tables support Letter, Legal and A4 automatic duplex; envelopes and labels use the bypass and do not duplex.

Scanning arrangement

Actual Legal-size glass and 50-sheet Letter single-pass duplex feeder. The feeder accepts originals up to 8.5 by 14 inches and 50–105 gsm. Computer scanning is color even though printing is monochrome.

Computer and mobile connections

USB device connection, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi and a separate direct wireless mode. D1620 does not inherit D1650 fax or NFC hardware. File capture requires its own scanner software and network registration.

Supplies and declared yields

Actual operating guide rates both supplied toner and replacement Cartridge 121 at 5,000 pages, using ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. This is a maker declaration; no live cost per page is inferred.

Software and support

Native Secure Print stores a protected document in memory for panel PIN release. Release it before the deletion time and close Remote Scanner when it blocks the Secure Print screen. Optional encrypted-PDF and card-reader accessories are not included.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact D1620 operating column gives 18.875 by 18.25 by 17.75 inches; the wider shared web measurement belongs to D1650. U.S. power is 120–127 V AC, 60 Hz. The 41.9 lb manual figure excludes toner, so loaded weight is unassigned. Allow loading, glass-opening and service space.
