D320Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible USB desktops making ordinary mono prints and hand-placed Legal copies.

The main tradeoff

No feeder or established computer scan-to-file route; automatic duplex and network workflows remain unestablished.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible USB computer print mono Letter pages at a declared fifteen ppm with 260 included Letter sheets?

Yes. The cassette contributes 250 and the original expressly allows ten twenty-pound Letter sheets in the MP route. Standalone copying is separate from computer printing.

Can its Legal copy glass deliver a Legal scan file to my USB computer?

No supported computer-capture route is established. The glass is positively documented for standalone copying; that does not supply a computer scanner driver.

Does the ten-sheet bypass give it 260 included Legal sheets too?

No. The ten-sheet allowance is explicitly Letter; other supported stock feeds singly, leaving a 250-sheet normal Legal supply.

A local printer and a genuinely Legal-sized copier glass

The Canon imageCLASS D320 is an earlier monochrome laser copier/printer for a compatible USB computer and occasional hand-placed originals. Its strongest distinction is a glass surface that accepts a full Legal original, alongside a 250-sheet ordinary paper cassette. The main limit is workflow scope: it has no automatic document feeder and does not establish computer scan-to-file merely because copying involves reading an original.

The actual D320/D340 guide makes an unusual model distinction. D320 has the larger Legal glass. D340 adds a feeder, but its separate glass is limited to Letter. A shared family manual or a picture of the feeder-equipped sibling must not add that feeder to D320 or shrink its documented glass.

Copy a bound or awkward original by hand

The D320 document table positively supports originals up to 8.5 by fourteen inches on the glass, including suitable books and three-dimensional objects within the stated weight limit. Open the cover, place the original face down and align it using the appropriate size marks. Avoid forcing the cover down on a thick book.

Standalone monochrome copying offers exposure adjustment, reduction or enlargement and appropriate layout settings. The copier reads each original as part of making a paper copy. That wording is not a desktop scanner specification, a TWAIN driver or evidence that a computer receives an image file.

The original repeatedly labels feeder loading as D340-only. D320 therefore suits a person placing a small number of originals individually. A batch of loose pages or a two-sided stack needs repeated user handling. An MFP with an actual supported scanner and feeder is a better fit when archiving originals to files is central.

USB printing depends on the actual driver

The exact US specification lists USB and Canon’s Windows printer driver. The original basic operation tells the user to install that driver, select the correct printer in the application’s print dialog and submit the document. Its historical Windows example establishes a real local printing routine without promising compatibility with every current desktop.

Check a usable exact driver before planning continued use of this older machine. No included Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria arrangement is established. A generic Canon app panel on a modern support page says “if supported”; it does not add those functions to D320.

The exact device scope is laser copier/printer, with monochrome output and no established telephone fax. Automatic two-sided print operation is also unestablished in the examined instructions. Selecting an essential automatic-duplex requirement therefore does not produce a supported match.

The ten-sheet bypass is specifically a Letter capacity

The ordinary cassette accepts Letter, Legal and A4 and holds up to 250 sheets of the stated seventeen- to twenty-pound paper. The multipurpose route can hold ten sheets of twenty-pound Letter stock, but the actual operating text limits other suitable stock to one sheet.

That creates a useful exact-size distinction. Letter has 260 included loaded sheets across the two paths. Legal and A4 retain the 250-sheet normal stack; a single manually fed sheet is not another ordinary tray. The bypass also has priority over the cassette, so remove unused special stock when returning to ordinary printing.

Suitable envelopes can be prepared for the cassette, up to approximately twenty, or fed individually through the multipurpose route. Flatten curls and flaps, set the actual envelope size and follow the loading orientation. Envelope handling should not inherit the capacity or paper-type assumptions of a normal page stack.

Declared speed, cartridge and placement

The exact US reference declares fifteen one-sided Letter pages per minute. Copy speed is separately listed as fifteen Letter copies or 12.5 Legal copies per minute. The ten-thousand-page maximum duty cycle is a durability comparison, not a recommended recurring monthly workload.

The original S35 cartridge declaration is approximately 3,500 A4 copies at five-percent coverage, with exposure, image coverage and environment affecting yield. A supplied-cartridge yield is not independently established here. This is a source declaration, not a current toner-cost calculation.

The original D320 body is 21⅜ inches wide, 17⅝ deep and 13⅝ high, with approximately 31.9 pounds including cartridge. US power is 120 V, 60 Hz. Its installation-space figure and open-cover access matter beyond those closed dimensions. Choose a documented network MFP instead when unattended capture, file delivery or modern mobile printing is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

15 one-sided Letter ppm from exact US specification. Copy rates 15 Letter / 12.5 Legal cpm are separate. Maximum monthly duty 10,000 is not a recommended monthly volume.

Paper handling

250-sheet cassette at 17–20 lb supports Letter/Legal/A4. MP tray adds ten sheets only for 20 lb Letter, giving 260 Letter; other supported stock feeds singly, so Legal/A4 normal stack remains 250. Cassette envelopes approximately twenty, or one MP envelope. Automatic print duplex not established.

Scanning arrangement

D320 has Legal-sized copy glass, no ADF. D340 feeder and its shorter Letter glass are distinct. Optical reading for standalone mono copying does not establish USB computer scan-to-file; no such route is assigned.

Computer and mobile connections

Standard USB and compatible Windows printer-driver arrangement. No included network, mobile-printing protocol or protected print-release workflow established. Four MB copy memory is a separate copier specification.

Supplies and declared yields

Canon S35 approximately 3,500 A4 copies at 5% dot coverage, with exposure and environmental conditions. Supplied-cartridge yield unknown; not relabeled ISO or current cost.

Electrical edition and setup

Actual D320 body 21⅜ W × 17⅝ D × 13⅝ H inches, approximately 31.9 lb including cartridge; exact web rounds weight to 32 lb. Original installation space 24⅝ W × 18 D inches with cassette/MP attached, plus cover/service access. US 120 V, 60 Hz.
