A useful fit for

An existing supported USB installation needing stack copying, including Legal originals through the feeder.

The main tradeoff

Its glass is Letter-sized, and computer capture, automatic print duplex and included network operation remain unestablished.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can D340 print monochrome Letter documents over a supported direct USB computer connection?

Yes. Install the correct supported printer driver, select this machine in the application print dialog and use its documented USB connection. The exact support specification declares up to 15 Letter ppm.

Can its automatic document feeder be treated as a verified computer scanner?

No verified scan-to-computer route is assigned. The actual feeder procedures describe copying, while the computer chapter describes printing.

Can it join an office network through included Ethernet?

No included Ethernet arrangement is established. The original hardware and exact U.S. specification document USB.

The feeder is the reason to distinguish D340 from D320

The Canon imageCLASS D340 is an earlier monochrome copier and USB printer. Its automatic document feeder makes a stack of suitable originals easier to copy than placing each page on the glass. That hardware is specific to D340 in the shared D320/D340 guide.

The tradeoff is easy to miss: D340's glass is limited to Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches. D320 has the larger Legal glass. A shared manual title does not make those two physical arrangements interchangeable, and D340's ability to copy Legal originals depends on its feeder.

Original size changes the feeder quantity

Canon specifies up to 50 Letter or A4 originals, but 30 Legal originals, using the stated normal-paper basis. The feeder accepts a maximum of 8.5 by 14 inches and handles suitable 64–105 gsm originals within its limits. Do not apply the 50-sheet headline to every page size or weight.

Remove any original from the glass before using the feeder. Fan and align the stack, adjust the guides and load originals face up. Pages feed from the top, starting with the first page. Wait until the batch has completed before starting another job.

The glass is useful for appropriate books, photographs or small originals that cannot safely feed, with a maximum original weight of 4.4 lb. Remove staples and clips, let wet correction fluid or glue dry and keep curled, torn or otherwise unsuitable material out of the automatic path.

Computer printing is a direct USB workflow

The actual Basic Guide includes a computer-print chapter. Install the correct printer driver, open the document in its application and make sure D340 is selected in the print dialog before submitting it. Its illustrated example uses Windows 98; the exact support page separately lists Windows 7, Vista, XP and 2000.

Those are historical compatibility references, so verify the exact driver for the computer that will actually be used. The read hardware and U.S. specification establish USB, without an included Ethernet, Wi-Fi or mobile printing arrangement.

The feeder and glass procedures in this guide serve copying. They do not establish a method of saving a scanned file onto the connected computer, so this review assigns no computer capture route. Generic words about scanning or fax in the manual's boilerplate are not sufficient evidence of another function.

Multipurpose capacity depends on the paper

The cassette holds approximately 250 normal sheets at 64–80 gsm. The multipurpose path accepts ten Letter sheets at its 75 gsm basis, or a single sheet of other compatible stock. It has priority over the cassette, which is useful for a short special-paper job but can also explain why the printer feeds from an unexpected source.

Set the size and type to match the loaded medium. The supported list includes Letter, Legal and A4, along with specified envelopes and other sizes. Flatten envelopes carefully, use the correct face and feeding edge and respect the separate envelope limit rather than a normal-paper stack count.

For envelopes, the guide allows approximately 20 in the cassette or one at a time in the multipurpose path. Its explicit loading instructions matter more than assuming that a wide paper slot accepts any stack.

Output handling and copy layout are separate decisions

With the left cover closed, output arrives face down in order. Opening the cover provides a straighter face-up path that can help with suitable special media. There is no face-up collection tray: remove each delivered sheet by hand and leave the outlet clear.

The copy controls include collating and a 2-on-1 layout that reduces two originals onto one printed face. Neither a layout option nor automatic original feeding establishes automatic print duplex. That output capability remains unestablished in the read source.

Use the loaded dimensions and coverage-based cartridge figure

The operating appendix gives D340 as 21⅜ inches wide, 18 deep and 17⅞ high, weighing approximately 35.2 lb including the cartridge. With cassette and multipurpose tray attached, installation width is 24⅝ inches. These are more useful planning distinctions than applying D320's shorter body.

Canon S35 is rated for approximately 3,500 copies on an A4 original with 5% black coverage. Dense pages and photographs alter consumption, and the source does not claim an ISO test basis. The U.S. support specification gives up to 15 Letter print ppm and a 10,000-page maximum monthly duty; it supplies no recommended routine monthly range.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact U.S. support declares up to 15 Letter print ppm. It separately lists 15 Letter copy cpm and 12.5 Legal copy cpm. The 10,000-page maximum duty is not a recommended routine volume.

Paper handling

Normal cassette intake is about 250 at 64–80 gsm. Multipurpose intake is ten Letter sheets at 75 gsm or one sheet of other compatible paper. D340 copying feeder takes 50 Letter/A4 or 30 Legal originals at the stated normal-paper basis.

Scanning arrangement

D340 copy glass is Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches. Its feeder reaches Legal. The larger Legal glass in the same guide belongs to D320. No computer capture or automatic two-sided feeder route is established.

Computer and mobile connections

Standard direct USB computer printing is documented. No included Ethernet, Wi-Fi or mobile printing arrangement is established.

Supplies and declared yields

Canon S35 is rated at approximately 3,500 copies on an A4 original at 5% black coverage. This is not an ISO yield declaration. A separate starter-cartridge yield is unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

Actual D340 operating dimensions are 21⅜ by 18 by 17⅞ inches, with about 35.2 lb including cartridge. Installation width is 24⅝ inches with cassette and multipurpose tray attached. U.S. power is 120 V, 60 Hz.
