A useful fit for

A retained local USB document station with an exact working MF driver and MF Toolbox arrangement.

The main tradeoff

Retired software generation, no feeder, and Legal output exceeds the glass capture area.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can MF3110 print monochrome Legal pages and capture color Letter originals to a supported USB computer?

Yes. The actual local USB setup and MF Toolbox glass procedure support that combination. Legal output is separate from the Letter/A4 glass and does not enlarge the capture area.

Can it automatically feed a stack of originals into a scanner?

No. The actual source control is fixed to Platen Glass. Each original is placed manually; no ADF route exists.

Can it scan a complete Legal original on its glass?

No. The maximum glass dimensions are 216 × 297 mm, covering Letter/A4 rather than Legal.

A local document station from an earlier software generation

The Canon imageCLASS MF3110 combines monochrome printing and copying with color scanning. Its original U.S. basic guide identifies model F146600, while the separate software guide describes a local USB printer and scanner. It is a useful reference for an existing unit whose exact computer setup is still working.

Canon’s support page marks the model retired. The original installation instructions describe Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP. Those historical instructions explain the machine’s workflow; they are not a promise that connecting it to a current computer will provide a supported print and scanner stack.

Install the scanner components before connecting USB

The actual setup sequence installs MF Drivers first and MF Toolbox next, then connects the powered machine to the computer by USB. Administrator rights are required for the documented Windows 2000 and XP installation. Canon recommends a cable no longer than three meters.

A printer shared by a Windows host is a different arrangement from an embedded network interface. It does not establish that another computer can use the scanner over Ethernet. The verified capture route here stays with the supported local USB computer.

Color capture happens on the glass, one original at a time

The platen accepts an original up to 216 by 297 millimeters, covering Letter and A4. The operating instructions place the document face down using the size marks. The software’s source selector is unavailable because Platen Glass is fixed for this model; there is no automatic document feeder to select.

For panel capture, choose SCAN and press Start. If asked for an application, select MF Toolbox 4.7. The first-use default creates a dated folder under My Pictures, or My Documents if that picture folder does not exist. Changing the Toolbox action also changes what that panel shortcut does.

From the computer, open MF Toolbox and choose Save, PDF, Mail, OCR or a registered application button. Set the mode, original size, resolution and destination before starting. Color and Color Magazine are real capture modes even though printed output remains monochrome.

Advanced settings open ScanGear MF. A compatible TWAIN application can also import the image, with WIA separately described for Windows XP. Mail means attaching the image through a configured computer e-mail program; it does not mean that the printer sends directly to an office mail server.

Legal printing and Legal scanning are different requirements

The printer accepts Letter, Legal and A4 output paper. Its scanner glass does not accept an entire Legal page. A form that prints correctly on Legal stock can therefore be too long to capture in full on this machine.

The cassette holds approximately 250 sheets at Canon’s sixty-four-gram paper basis. A separate one-sheet multipurpose feeder takes priority over the cassette. Register the actual paper size and type and select the exact printer in the application before opening its preferences.

The basic operating table limits envelopes to the multipurpose feeder. Although the software appendix lists envelopes under the cassette heading, that broader summary is not used to override the specific loading instruction. No automatic print-duplex capability is assigned from an unobserved feature or another MF model.

Use the stated performance and supply conditions

The software guide rates printing at twenty-one Letter pages per minute. The basic guide separately gives twenty-one Letter copies per minute. Neither figure establishes a monthly recommended workload, and no such recommendation is invented here.

Replacement Canon X25 yield is approximately 2,500 A4 printouts at four-percent dot coverage. That older measurement basis is not interchangeable with an ISO/IEC 19752 cartridge rating. Dense originals, exposure settings and environmental conditions can change actual consumption.

The U.S. guide specifies 120 volts at sixty hertz and approximately 26.5 pounds including the cartridge. Its listed dimensions, 17¾ by 20½ by 14⅝ inches, explicitly use an extended cassette. Leave further room for the glass cover, paper path and maintenance. For a retained machine, the decisive check is a complete working USB print-and-scan routine on the intended computer.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The software guide lists 21 Letter print pages per minute; the basic guide separately lists 21 Letter copies per minute. Recommended monthly volume is unknown.

Paper handling

250-sheet cassette at 64 gsm plus a one-sheet priority feeder. The basic operating table restricts envelopes to the feeder; the software appendix’s cassette listing does not broaden that scope. Automatic duplex is unestablished.

Scanning arrangement

Glass maximum: 216 × 297 mm, covering Letter/A4, one original at a time and up to 2 kg. MF Toolbox source selection is fixed to Platen Glass. Color capture is separate from monochrome output.

Computer and mobile connections

Local USB printing and computer capture are documented. Windows printer sharing does not establish embedded Ethernet or network scanning.

Supplies and declared yields

Canon X25 replacement: approximately 2,500 A4 printouts at 4% dot coverage, not an ISO/IEC 19752 rating. Exposure, image coverage and environment affect yield. Supplied yield is not separately established.

Software and support

Earlier three-function model with historical Windows software. Verify an exact working printer/scanner arrangement; a modern USB socket alone does not establish compatibility.

Electrical edition and setup

U.S. power: 120 V, 60 Hz. Weight: 26.5 lb including cartridge. The listed 17¾ × 20½ × 14⅝-inch dimensions explicitly include the extended cassette; allow additional glass and service access.
