imageCLASS MF3240 (0989B001AA)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A retained supported CARPS/MF Toolbox computer setup handling individual Letter/A4 originals.

The main tradeoff

No feeder or established network scanner. Optional print-server marketing does not override the actual USB-only capture restriction.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can MF3240 print monochrome Legal pages and scan color Letter originals to a supported USB computer?

Yes. Actual U.S. software confirms CARPS USB output and MF Toolbox glass capture. Legal output is separate from Letter/A4 glass. Install the exact scanner components on the intended computer.

Can it capture an unattended stack through an ADF?

No. MF Toolbox’s source is fixed to Platen Glass. Place each original manually.

Does an optional external print server establish Ethernet scanning?

No. The actual U.S. software guide explicitly requires USB and excludes network scanning. The brochure’s optional print-server claim does not establish that route.

A local four-function unit with an important scanning boundary

The Canon imageCLASS MF3240, U.S. item 0989B001AA, combines monochrome printing and copying with color glass scanning and telephone fax. It is a retired model whose original computer workflow belongs to an earlier Windows generation.

The most consequential source difference concerns networking. Its U.S. brochure mentions printing and scanning through an optional external server. The actual U.S. software guide explicitly requires a USB connection and loaded USB driver for scanning, and says network scanning is unsupported. This review follows that operating restriction for computer capture.

Use the exact local driver and Toolbox arrangement

The printing software is CARPS. In an application, select the machine, open Preferences or Properties, set the required options and print. An operating system recognizing a USB device is not by itself proof that the correct print and scanner components are installed.

For panel capture, place the original, press SCAN and then Start. Select MF Toolbox 4.9 if prompted. The initial action corresponds to the Toolbox Save routine, with a dated folder under My Pictures in the documented environment.

That action can be reassigned through Toolbox or the operating system’s scanner-event settings. If a change does not take effect immediately, the guide discusses reconnecting USB or restarting the computer. Check the actual event and destination rather than assuming every press will use the same file routine.

The source control allows only the glass

MF Toolbox’s Select Source control offers Platen Glass only. There is no automatic document feeder to turn a stack into an unattended job. The actual scanner specification reaches 215.9 by 297 millimeters, covering Letter and A4.

Legal paper is a supported output size, but an entire Legal original does not fit the glass capture area. A form that prints correctly on longer stock can therefore exceed the original size that this machine can digitize in one placement.

Color capture remains available despite monochrome printing. Choose black-and-white, grayscale, Color or Color Magazine according to the original. The latter uses descreen processing for printed photographs, with a different purpose from simply increasing output resolution.

File type affects the available scan settings

Open MF Toolbox, choose Save, PDF, Mail, OCR or a registered application, configure the settings and start. The advanced-driver checkbox opens ScanGear MF for additional control, but it is unavailable with OCR.

The Toolbox resolution selector can reach six hundred dpi generally, while its PDF and OCR arrangements are limited to four hundred. The original software appendix and brochure also disagree on optical resolution wording, so their numbers are not merged into a larger invented claim.

Mail attaches the image through a configured computer mail program. OCR needs the relevant application. Neither button establishes that the printer independently sends e-mail over a network, and the optional server headline does not create a verified shared scanner route.

Paper, fax and consumables remain separate systems

The included paper arrangement is a 250-sheet cassette with a manual feed route. The generic quantity is not a verified stack count for every exact size. The U.S. software lists Letter, Legal, A4 and the supported envelopes; automatic print duplex is not established by the read sources.

Telephone fax uses a compatible line and the intended receive mode. The regional starter guide shows the MF3240-only telephone connections and software-before-USB installation order, but its country-specific telephone service options are not treated as universal U.S. features.

Replacement X25 is rated for 2,500 pages at five-percent coverage in the U.S. document. That condition is not the four-percent basis found for another earlier model and is not relabeled as an ISO yield. An included-cartridge yield remains unestablished.

Assess an earlier unit around a complete working routine

Canon rates one-sided Letter printing at twenty-one pages per minute. The five-thousand-page maximum monthly duty is not a recommended workload range. Its U.S. brochure lists a 17.7 by 18.2 by 14.5-inch body and 26.4 pounds with cartridge.

The retrieved regional starter specifies a different mains version, so it is not evidence for a U.S. electrical rating. Verify the actual unit label and exact current computer compatibility. A retained machine makes sense only when its local printing, glass capture and intended fax arrangement are all established together.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

21 one-sided Letter print pages per minute, separate from 21 Letter copies per minute. A 5,000-page maximum duty is not a recommended monthly range.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet cassette with manual feed; exact-size quantity is unknown. Native Letter/Legal/A4 output and listed envelopes are confirmed. Automatic duplex is unestablished. The brochure’s 60-sheet output figure is not input.

Scanning arrangement

U.S. software fixes the source to Platen Glass, 215.9 × 297 mm, covering Letter/A4. The USB scanner driver is required; network capture is explicitly unsupported. Color capture is distinct from monochrome output. No ADF or automatic reverse-face capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Actual local USB CARPS printing and MF Toolbox 4.9 capture. Optional external print-server marketing does not establish network scanning. No built-in Ethernet, Wi-Fi or mobile protocol is assigned.

Supplies and declared yields

U.S. X25 replacement: approximately 2,500 pages at 5% coverage. This differs from MF3110’s 4% basis and is not an ISO declaration. Supplied identity is documented without a separate yield. European EP27 is not substituted.

Software and support

Historical four-function model 0989B001AA. Software optical resolution of 600 × 1,200 conflicts with brochure 600 × 600; no reconciliation is invented. MF Toolbox PDF/OCR is limited to 400 dpi. Verify exact present driver support.

Electrical edition and setup

U.S. brochure: 17.7 × 18.2 × 14.5 inches; 26.4 lb with cartridge, versus 24.7 lb without. Retrieved EN4 starter is a 220–240 V regional edition, so the exact U.S. mains rating remains unknown.
