imageCLASS MF414dwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

An existing supported LAN workflow digitizing both faces of Legal originals and collecting secured duplex monochrome jobs.

The main tradeoff

Legal originals use the feeder, its duplex mechanism is unspecified, and larger input capacity needs an optional cassette.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can MF414dw capture both faces of Legal color originals to a configured Ethernet computer folder and print PIN-held duplex Legal monochrome documents?

Yes. The documented native LAN folder route provides automatic two-sided feeder capture through Legal, while supported native output combines eligible Legal duplex and PIN release. The feeder mechanism is unspecified.

Does its glass fit a full Legal original?

No. MF414dw has Letter/A4 glass. The Legal glass in this shared guide belongs to MF419dw.

Can it print a captured color document in color?

No. Color capture and the color touchscreen do not change its monochrome laser print engine.

An earlier office model with duplex original capture

The Canon imageCLASS MF414dw provides monochrome printing, copying, color scanning and telephone fax. Its 50-sheet duplex feeder, native PIN-held output and network sending features make it relevant to an existing supported office document workflow. Canon marks the model retired, so its original specifications should be read as an earlier reference.

Automatic duplex printing and automatic duplex original scanning are separately documented functions. The read originals confirm both, but do not identify the feeder mechanism as single-pass or reversing. This review does not assign a mechanism from a newer machine.

The Legal original path is the feeder

The MF414dw glass reaches 8.5 by 11¾ inches, covering Letter and A4. Its feeder reaches 8.5 by 14 inches. The larger Legal glass elsewhere in this shared guide belongs to MF419dw and should not be transferred to this model.

Use suitable individual pages, books or fragile originals on the glass. Feeder originals must meet its size and stock conditions. The stated range for two-sided originals is 64–105 gsm, compared with 50–105 gsm for one-sided originals. A general feeder quantity is not permission to ignore paper condition or weight.

Color capture preserves color in the saved image. Printed output remains monochrome. A color touchscreen is also an interface feature rather than a color print engine.

Computer scanning and direct folder sending need different preparation

For the documented native computer route, install the exact supported scanner software and MF Scan Utility. Windows wired or wireless LAN capture requires MF Network Scanner Selector registration and IPv4. USB avoids that registration; the actual preparation chapter excludes IPv6-only capture.

At the machine, select Scan, Computer, the intended computer and its preset. Close ScanGear MF before using that panel procedure. Finish a supported glass sequence with Finish after placing and capturing any additional pages. Mac operation follows the relevant separate scanner guide.

Device-initiated delivery to a computer shared folder or FTP server is another route. Prepare the supported destination and its credentials, register it in the Address Book, then select Scan, File and that destination. The actual procedure permits one file destination at a time.

Set the original size and color mode, then use Two-Sided Original with Book or Calendar orientation for a duplex feeder stack. Start capture at the device. A glass original cannot be scanned on both faces automatically. Device-assigned filenames and Start Sending completion differ from the utility’s presets.

Native PIN release uses temporary printer memory

Enable Allow Use of Secured Print in the supported native driver’s Device Settings. Select Secured Print in Output Method when sending the document and provide the requested job identity and PIN, up to seven digits.

Close Remote Scanner mode before collection. Select Secure Print at the panel, choose the user if prompted and the intended document, then enter the matching PIN. The original default deletion period is 30 minutes, with a configurable retention setting.

Uncollected documents occupy memory and can interfere with other output. This is temporary held printing, separate from Department ID usage controls or permanent file storage.

300 standard sheets, with a separate optional cassette

The included paper sources are a 250-sheet cassette and 50-sheet multipurpose tray. Their generic normal-paper total is 300. Optional PF-44 adds 500 sheets; it is excluded from the standard configuration and changes the installed body height.

The actual paper table permits native automatic Letter, Legal and A4 duplex on eligible media. Use the correct internal paper-size lever and keep the rear sub-output tray closed before duplex printing. Envelope and label stock follow different source and duplex restrictions.

AirPrint, Mopria and direct wireless output are separately listed mobile options. Application-dependent settings do not automatically include native PIN submission, exact duplex media controls or the device folder sender.

Use exact speed and supply conditions

MF414dw is rated for up to 35 one-sided plain-Letter ppm and separately 17 duplex Letter pages per minute. Its 50,000-page maximum duty is not a routine monthly recommendation; no recommended range is established in the read sources.

The included Cartridge 119 is rated for 2,100 pages, while replacement 119 II is 6,400 under ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. The actual body measures 15⅜ by 18⅝ by 17 inches and weighs 42.3 lb including toner. Leave additional space for open covers, paper and servicing.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact model declares up to 35 one-sided plain-Letter ppm and separately 17 duplex Letter pages/minute. These are different output modes; scanner and copier rates are separate. Maximum monthly duty 50,000 is not a recommended range.

Paper handling

Generic 250-sheet base cassette plus 50-sheet multipurpose source totals 300, with no exact-size capacity map inferred. Optional PF-44 adds 500 and is excluded. Native eligible Letter/Legal/A4 duplex requires correct lever and closed sub-output; envelopes/labels differ.

Scanning arrangement

Letter/A4 glass and Legal feeder; automatic two-sided feeder capture is confirmed, mechanism unspecified. Original duplex stock is 64–105 gsm versus 50–105 gsm simplex. The shared MF419dw Legal glass is excluded.

Computer and mobile connections

USB, Gigabit Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi support applicable native operation, with direct wireless separately documented for mobile output. Native USB/IPv4 utility capture and device SMB/FTP sending need distinct preparation. Telephone fax needs a compatible line.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied Cartridge 119 is rated 2,100 pages; replacement 119 also 2,100 and 119 II 6,400 under ISO/IEC 19752, A4/default density. High-yield replacement is not the included supply.

Software and support

Native Secure Print uses a job PIN up to seven digits and temporary memory retention, with a documented 30-minute default. Close Remote Scanner before release. This retired model is an earlier reference; no current service availability or recommended monthly working range is invented.

Electrical edition and setup

Actual MF416/MF414 body is 15⅜ by 18⅝ by 17 inches, with 42.3 lb explicitly including toner. Optional feeder changes height and capacity. U.S. 120–127 V, 60 Hz is documented; allow opening and service clearance.
