MF426dw (2222C002)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

An office scanning two-sided loose Legal forms while printing regular monochrome documents.

The main tradeoff

The glass is shorter than Legal; 900-sheet input requires an optional cassette.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can MF426dw capture both sides of Legal originals in one pass and print duplex Letter over Wi-Fi with 350 sheets ready?

Yes, with the supported native driver and scanner software, IPv4 and network scanner registration. Its single-pass feeder accepts Legal originals and standard input is 350 Letter sheets at 20 lb bond.

Can a bound Legal page lie entirely on the flatbed for computer scanning?

No. The glass is limited to 8.5 by 11.75 inches. Full Legal originals require the feeder and suitable original handling.

Does its standard configuration hold 900 Letter sheets?

No. Standard capacity is 350 sheets. Reaching 900 requires the separately optional 550-sheet cassette.

Choose MF426dw for document flow, with its exact variant clear

The Canon imageCLASS MF426dw is an earlier U.S. monochrome multifunction reference, identified as item 2222C002 in Canon's shared brochure. It prints, copies, scans, sends and faxes. A five-inch color touchscreen provides the controls, while the engine still produces monochrome printed and copied pages.

One reason to preserve the exact suffix is the printer language. Canon assigns Adobe PostScript 3 to MF426dw in this shared U.S. reference, alongside UFR II and PCL. That PostScript declaration is not assigned to MF424dw. A family heading should therefore not erase a feature difference that matters to an existing print environment.

Legal originals belong in the feeder

The single-pass duplex feeder is the useful intake feature for two-sided forms. Its maximum original is 8.5 by 14 inches. Both faces can be captured without a reversing pass, but the original still needs to suit the feeder's size, weight and condition limits. The 50-sheet stack declaration is specifically Letter at 80 gsm.

The flatbed has a different boundary. The actual operating table gives an 8.5 by 11.75 inch maximum, covering Letter and A4 placement but not an entire Legal page. For a loose Legal form, the feeder provides the documented route. A bound or delicate Legal original that cannot use the feeder needs a larger verified glass, rather than an assumption based on the printer's Legal paper support.

Color scanning is documented even though printing is monochrome. Canon's duplex scan figures of 70 monochrome or 26 color images per minute are separate from its print-speed declaration. They also describe particular test conditions; they are not a measured promise for every file type, resolution or computer workflow.

Prepare the computer capture route before using it

The actual U.S. manual describes MF Scan Utility, ScanGear MF and compatible application capture. A Windows computer connected through wired or wireless LAN must register the machine in MF Network Scanner Selector. This scanning arrangement uses IPv4; the guide explicitly excludes IPv6 for that function. USB avoids that registration step, but the printer must be awake before USB scanning.

MF Scan Utility can save a scan, forward it to an application or attach it to email. ScanGear MF provides additional image controls. If a generic TWAIN or WIA application fails to accept later feeder pages, Canon advises scanning one original at a time. Select the capture software and document source deliberately instead of assuming that every application's scan command manages a stack identically.

Network file sending and mobile capture are separate workflows with their own setup. The brochure lists Canon PRINT Business, AirPrint and Mopria capabilities, but a listed mobile print service does not establish every native scanner or confidential-printing feature in the same application. Verify the exact computer driver when placing this older device into a new environment.

Understand the standard paper configuration

Standard Letter input is 350 sheets at 20 lb bond, split between a 250-sheet cassette and a 100-sheet bypass. The advertised 900-sheet maximum requires an optional 550-sheet cassette. Canon's cover image is explicitly shown with an optional cassette, so its taller appearance should not become a base-package assumption.

The operating paper table supports automatic two-sided Letter, Legal and A4 output with eligible media. Labels and envelopes use the bypass without that duplex permission; heavier media also have different path limits. Match the actual size and type between the machine and native driver. When adding the optional cassette later, update the driver's device settings as well as installing the hardware.

Use native PIN release as a specific job workflow

Secure Print is documented through the native computer driver. Select Secured Print as the output method, send the job, then choose it at the printer and enter its PIN. This holds the document until release instead of immediately leaving its pages in the shared output tray.

Held jobs expire and occupy memory. Release them promptly, and close the Remote Scanner screen before selecting Secure Print. The job PIN is distinct from an administrator login or wireless password. This review does not transfer that driver workflow to an unverified AirPrint combination.

Budget space and supplies from the operating reference

Canon declares up to 40 one-sided Letter ppm, 32 Legal ppm and a recommended monthly range of 500–4,000 pages. Supplied and replacement Cartridge 052 are rated at 3,100 pages; 052 H is rated at 9,200 under ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. No current running cost is invented.

The operating manual gives width, depth and height as 17.875, 18.25 and 15.5 inches. Its explicit order resolves a brochure row incorrectly headed height/width/depth. The quoted weight excludes toner, so loaded weight remains unknown. Allow extra loading and service space, then choose MF426dw when its feeder and supported native workflow fit the actual document task.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 40 one-sided Letter ppm and 32 Legal ppm. The brochure's duplex scan declarations of 70 monochrome and 26 color ipm count images, not printed pages.

Paper handling

Standard 350 Letter sheets at 20 lb bond: 250 plus 100. The advertised 900-sheet maximum requires the optional 550-sheet Cassette Unit-AH1. Letter, Legal and A4 support eligible automatic duplex; envelopes and labels use the bypass without automatic duplex.

Scanning arrangement

Single-pass automatic two-sided feeder accepts originals up to 8.5 by 14 inches. The 50-sheet stack declaration is Letter at 80 gsm. Glass originals are limited to 8.5 by 11.75 inches, covering Letter and A4, so Legal glass capture is unavailable.

Computer and mobile connections

Native USB, Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi printing and computer capture are documented. Windows network scanning uses IPv4 and registration. Mobile printing and Canon PRINT Business mobile capture remain distinct from the native computer arrangement.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied Cartridge 052 and its standard replacement are rated 3,100 pages. Cartridge 052 H is rated 9,200 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. No current supply price or measured cost per page is assumed.

Software and support

MF426dw includes Adobe PostScript 3 in the read U.S. brochure; the shared MF424dw does not. Native Secure Print is a specific driver and panel PIN workflow, not the administrator password.

Electrical edition and setup

The actual U.S. operating table gives W/D/H of 17.875 by 18.25 by 15.5 inches and 120–127 V at 60 Hz. The brochure mislabels its corresponding dimension order as H/W/D. The quoted operating weight excludes toner, so loaded weight remains unknown.
