MF4450Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A directly attached computer desk that needs all four document functions and mostly one-sided pages.

The main tradeoff

Automatic duplex and Ethernet scanning are absent on this exact model.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can this USB machine print monochrome pages, copy, fax and capture Legal feeder originals in color?

Yes. Install its print and scanner software, use the simplex feeder for Legal originals and load the correctly set cassette. The guide confirms all four functions on MF4450 over its normal USB arrangement.

Can I automatically print both sides of each sheet?

No. The exact feature matrix excludes two-sided printing on MF4450; that function belongs to MF4570dn in the shared guide.

Can several computers scan through a standard Ethernet connection?

No. MF4450 has a USB device interface and the actual matrix excludes network scanning. A shared manual network example does not add the hardware.

A USB multifunction model with useful document capture

The Canon imageCLASS MF4450 is an earlier monochrome laser reference for a computer desk that needs printing, color scanning, copying and telephone fax. The normal arrangement is a USB connection with Canon's appropriate software installed. Its deciding limitation is automation: it has a one-sided document feeder and no automatic two-sided printing. It also lacks the network functions shown for the MF4570dn beside it in the shared operating guide.

The exact model table is especially helpful here. MF4450 has copy, print, fax, USB scan and one-sided ADF entries, while the two-sided print, network scan, Remote UI and two-sided ADF entries are unavailable. That is firmer evidence than reading a shared chapter's feature heading in isolation. It keeps this model useful on its actual terms without promising an Ethernet scanner or a duplex engine it does not contain.

Loose Legal pages go through the feeder

The feeder accepts originals up to 8.5 by 14 inches and holds up to 35 sheets at the specified 80 gsm weight. It handles one side per pass. That makes it practical for a short stack of one-sided forms, while a two-sided stack needs a manual process or a different machine with automatic duplex input. Do not confuse the ability to scan a stack with the ability to read both sides automatically.

The glass accepts a smaller original area. The document-handling table gives 8.5 by 11.75 inches, with placement marks for A4 and other supported sizes. A separate scanner summary contains a slightly inconsistent inch conversion alongside 297 mm, so the actual document-handling instructions govern this reading. Letter and A4 can use the glass; a full Legal page should use the feeder. Books and fragile pieces also need to fit the glass and its stated thickness/weight limits.

Computer scanning is positively documented. The panel's Computer destination saves an electronic file, with default color and black-and-white scan choices and MF Toolbox settings on the computer. Canon warns that the panel routine cannot proceed while the Toolbox setting screen is open. The Windows examples include searchable PDF, but the guide specifically lists that feature among the limitations of the described Mac software. Use the actual driver documentation for the computer involved instead of treating every listed format as universal.

One normal cassette, plus occasional manual media

The cassette holds approximately 250 sheets of 60–80 gsm plain paper. The multipurpose feed takes one sheet, which is useful for an occasional alternate page but is not another normal paper stack. At heavier weights, cassette capacity drops to 170 or 100 sheets depending on the stock. The original guide accepts Letter, Legal and A4 in both relevant sources, with matching size and type settings required before printing.

Envelopes have their own routine. The cassette can hold up to 20 appropriate envelopes, or an individual envelope can use the multipurpose feed. Monarch is restricted to that manual source. These options do not imply automatic envelope duplex. More generally, the shared two-sided printing instructions are explicitly marked MF4570dn only, so the MF4450 should be chosen with a one-sided output routine in mind.

Canon rates this exact printer at up to 24 Letter pages per minute. Its companion model's 26-page rating should not be substituted. The reviewed operating and support sections do not establish a recommended monthly volume, so a buyer with a strict sustained-page requirement needs another positively documented reference rather than an estimate derived from speed.

Check supplies and software before relying on an older unit

The included Cartridge 128 Starter is rated at approximately 1,000 pages, while a replacement Cartridge 128 is rated at about 2,100. The actual guide gives ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at the default print density as the basis. This distinction prevents the replacement yield from becoming an invented original-box yield. It also says nothing about current cartridge prices or the condition of toner supplied with a used machine.

The U.S. guide specifies 120–127 V at 60 Hz and approximately 25.8 lb including toner. Allow more room than the closed footprint for the feeder, scanner lid, cassette and maintenance access. Confirm the exact print and scan drivers for the intended computer before making the machine part of a regular workflow. The MF4450 is coherent for a directly attached all-function desk; a networked duplex multifunction printer is the more suitable alternative when sharing and automatic page turning are essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 24 one-sided Letter pages per minute in the exact U.S. support specifications. The shared guide separately rates MF4570dn at 26.

Paper handling

250-sheet cassette at 60–80 gsm, plus a one-sheet multipurpose feed. Letter, Legal and A4 are supported. Automatic duplex belongs only to MF4570dn in the actual guide. Envelopes: 20 in the cassette or one in the manual feed; Monarch uses the manual feed only.

Scanning arrangement

Color USB computer scanning with a 35-sheet simplex feeder accepting up to Legal. The original document table gives the glass an 8.5 by 11.75 inch maximum, which does not fit Legal. MF4450 has no automatic two-sided input or network scanner.

Computer and mobile connections

USB device interface. The exact feature matrix excludes network scanning and Remote UI on MF4450; shared Ethernet scanner specifications are not assigned to it.

Supplies and declared yields

Included Cartridge 128 Starter: approximately 1,000 pages. Replacement Cartridge 128: approximately 2,100 pages. Both use ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density.

Electrical edition and setup

U.S. guide: 120–127 V, 60 Hz and 25.8 lb including toner. The original fractional body dimensions are retained; the marketing height of 14.6 inches differs slightly from the guide value of 14.5 inches. Installation space is larger than the closed body.
