MF4570dwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A small office printing two-sided documents while scanning single-sided loose originals.

The main tradeoff

Its feeder cannot scan both sides automatically, and the glass is shorter than Legal.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can MF4570dw print duplex Letter and scan loose Legal originals in color through USB?

Yes, with the supported native print driver and MF Toolbox capture workflow. Legal originals use the simplex feeder, while automatic two-sided printing applies to eligible Letter output paper.

Will its automatic feeder scan both sides of a stack without manual turning?

No. The original MF4570dw feature matrix explicitly marks its two-sided ADF as unavailable. Automatic print duplex is a separate function.

Can it capture an entire Legal page from the flatbed?

No. The glass is shorter than Legal. Use the documented feeder route for suitable loose Legal originals.

A wireless monochrome reference with a simplex feeder

The Canon imageCLASS MF4570dw is an earlier monochrome multifunction reference for printing, copying, color scanning and faxing through a supported computer environment. Its automatic print duplex and built-in wireless connection are useful, but neither changes the original feeder into a two-sided scanner.

The original model feature matrix makes that boundary unusually clear: one-sided ADF is available and two-sided ADF is not. Someone scanning single-sided paperwork can use the feeder; someone routinely digitizing both faces of a stack must plan manual handling or choose another exact model with verified duplex input.

Match each original to the right physical area

The feeder accepts originals up to 8.5 by 14 inches, with a 35-sheet stack limit at 80 gsm. The glass has a smaller area of 215.9 by 297 mm, suitable for Letter and A4 placement but shorter than Legal. Legal print paper support therefore does not establish Legal flatbed capture.

Use the glass for a small card, photograph, booklet or other suitable material that should not be fed. The manual limits booklet thickness to approximately three-quarters of an inch. For feeder use, keep the originals consistent in size and condition, remove clips and staples and adjust the guides. A damaged or coated page is not made feeder-safe by staying below the sheet count.

Color capture is supported, while printed and copied output remains monochrome. The actual operating specification distinguishes 600 by 600 dpi optical glass scanning from 300 by 300 dpi feeder scanning. The larger software-interpolated number does not mean that either physical route captures that much optical detail.

Panel scanning depends on the computer setup

The documented panel workflow starts by placing the originals and selecting Scan, then Computer. Choose a destination and the intended scan preset. The supplied choices include color PDF, monochrome TIFF and customizable settings; the actual saved format and destination should be checked before a recurring task.

A USB-connected computer appears first when several destinations are available. The guide limits the displayed network destinations to ten computers, so an eleventh connected computer may not be available for panel selection. If scanning is blocked while the MF Toolbox settings screen is open, close that screen and try the panel workflow again.

MF Toolbox and compatible application capture offer additional computer-side options, but the guide demonstrates a particular Windows environment. It separately directs Mac users to their scanner guide and identifies differences, including unavailable searchable PDF in the described Mac arrangement. Confirm the exact driver and required feature before assigning this older printer to a new computer.

Automatic output duplex has its own controls

The native driver uses the Finishing tab, Print Style and Binding Location to select automatic two-sided output and the appropriate opening edge. The paper table expressly permits Letter, Legal and A4 duplex on eligible plain, recycled or color paper. These controls concern printed sheets; they do not turn the feeder over an original's second side.

The cassette holds about 250 normal sheets at 60–80 gsm, while the multipurpose path handles one item. Operating examples reduce the cassette quantity to 170 sheets at 91 gsm and 100 at 128 gsm. Envelopes have a separate twenty-piece cassette limit, with Monarch restricted to the multipurpose path. None of those special-media quantities should be replaced by a universal 250-sheet assumption.

Choose the paper size and type after loading and keep the guides properly adjusted. Preprinted stock also needs attention to the selected print-side priority setting. A correct driver setting and correctly oriented paper are both part of a successful duplex job.

Keep the speed and supplied toner distinct

Canon's U.S. table separates up to 26 one-sided Letter ppm from 16 two-sided Letter ppm. The actual manual confirms the 26 ppm Letter plain-paper declaration. Those are different output modes, not contradictory versions of the same test, and neither is a measured speed from this review.

The supplied Cartridge 128 Starter is rated at 1,000 pages. Replacement Cartridge 128 is rated at 2,100 under ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. Replacement yield should not be presented as the amount supplied, or as proof of what remains in a used unit.

Allow room beyond the small body

The operating guide gives a body of 15.375 inches wide, 16.625 deep and 14.5 high, weighing approximately 27.3 lb including toner. Its required installation envelope is substantially larger for opening, loading and servicing. USB, Fast Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi provide the documented native connections; a wireless password or WPS PIN does not establish confidential PIN job release. Choose MF4570dw when its one-sided original intake and supported computer workflow match the actual task.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact U.S. support table separates up to 26 one-sided Letter ppm from 16 two-sided Letter ppm. The actual guide confirms 26 Letter plain direct. Scan seconds per page are not print throughput.

Paper handling

About 250 normal sheets at 60–80 gsm in the cassette; one-sheet multipurpose path. Operating examples reduce cassette limits to 170 sheets at 91 gsm or 100 at 128 gsm, and permit twenty envelopes. Automatic duplex is documented for eligible Letter, Legal and A4 paper, not envelopes.

Scanning arrangement

The original feature matrix explicitly has a one-sided ADF and no two-sided ADF. The feeder accepts originals up to 8.5 by 14 inches and 35 sheets at 80 gsm. Glass maximum is 215.9 by 297 mm, suitable for Letter/A4 but not Legal. Actual optical scan resolution differs between glass and feeder.

Computer and mobile connections

USB, 10/100 Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi support native computer work. Panel-directed computer capture and MF Toolbox are documented. Wi-Fi infrastructure mode does not establish Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria.

Supplies and declared yields

The supplied Cartridge 128 Starter is rated 1,000 pages. Replacement Cartridge 128 is rated 2,100 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. The replacement declaration is not the supplied amount.

Software and support

MF Toolbox and compatible application capture are documented; the manual demonstrates Windows. Mac-specific guides control its feature differences, including unavailable searchable PDF. A System Manager PIN or WPS PIN is not evidence of confidential held-job release.

Electrical edition and setup

The actual U.S. guide gives 15.375 by 16.625 by 14.5 inches, approximately 27.3 lb including toner and 120–127 V at 60 Hz. The larger installation envelope is 24.25 by 31.625 by 29 inches; body dimensions do not include working clearance.
