A useful fit for

A supported USB or Ethernet office setup for one-sided original capture and monochrome output.

The main tradeoff

No automatic output or input duplex, and the Legal feeder is larger than the Letter/A4 glass.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can MF4770n scan single-sided Legal originals in color to a supported Ethernet computer and print monochrome Legal pages?

Yes. Its actual native MF driver and Toolbox arrangement supports registered Ethernet capture through the Legal simplex feeder. Install the scanner components on the intended computer rather than using another computer’s shared driver.

Will it automatically print both sides of Letter paper?

No. The exact MF4770n brochure column marks duplex unavailable. The MF4880dw and MF4890dw output-duplex features do not apply.

Can its feeder automatically scan both faces of originals?

No. MF4770n uses a 35-sheet simplex feeder. Shared MF4890dw duplex-original controls belong to that other model.

A wired four-function model with a simpler paper path

The Canon imageCLASS MF4770n, U.S. item 6371B030AA, combines monochrome printing and copying with color scanning and telephone fax. It is the wired, simplex-output model in the MF4770n/MF4880dw/MF4890dw comparison. A shared family photograph or manual screenshot can make those distinctions easy to miss.

MF4770n has USB and Fast Ethernet. It does not acquire Wi-Fi from the MF4880dw column, automatic print duplex from the higher pair, or automatic two-sided original capture from MF4890dw. Its useful retained-office role is a supported wired queue with one-sided document capture and separately configured fax.

Match each original to the correct scanner route

The feeder holds thirty-five Letter originals at Canon’s eighty-gram paper basis and accepts suitable pages through Legal. It captures one face per pass. A two-sided stack requires a separate treatment of the reverse faces and careful checking of the final file order.

The glass accepts Letter and A4, reaching 215.9 by 297 millimeters. Legal output paper does not make that glass long enough for a complete Legal original. Use the feeder for an appropriate full-length Legal page, and the glass for a book, small original or unsuitable feeder material.

Fan and align a feeder stack, open the input tray, adjust the guides and keep the load within the limit. Do not feed stapled, torn, curled or otherwise unsuitable pages merely because their dimensions fit. Place a glass original face down using the size marks.

Install the capture software on the receiving computer

The actual guide requires MF drivers and MF Toolbox on the computer that will scan. It explicitly excludes scanning through drivers merely shared from another computer. A successful shared print queue therefore does not establish a working scanner route.

For network capture, register the device in MF Network Scan Utility. At the machine select Scan, Computer, the destination and the desired preset, then confirm. The USB-connected computer appears separately from network destinations.

A feeder job starts the capture sequence directly. For a multipage glass file, use Scan Next Original for subsequent pages and Store and Finish when complete. Scan-to-PC shortcuts can retain a destination and frequently used settings, but the receiving computer must still have the required software and be available.

Toolbox file creation differs from direct network sending

For computer-side control, select Remote Scanner at the machine and open MF Toolbox 4.9. Choose a mode such as Save, PDF, OCR or Mail, then set source, original size, color, resolution and destination. ScanGear MF provides the documented advanced-driver path when applicable.

Mail creates an attachment through the computer’s e-mail application. It is not proof of standalone SMTP sending from the printer. PDF can create a multipage file, while actual format and application support depend on the supported system and installed components.

Output quantity and paper type need separate settings

The included cassette has a generic 250-sheet rating, with a separate one-sheet multipurpose route. Heavier eligible paper reduces the permitted quantity. The capacity headline is not a verified stack quantity for every supported size.

Set the actual size and type before selecting the native UFR II LT queue and its preferences. Letter, Legal and A4 output are documented, but automatic duplex is unavailable. Envelope Monarch uses the multipurpose route. The Quiet Mode setting can slow processing and does not apply to every paper arrangement.

Keep fax, supplies and performance in their own roles

Telephone fax needs a compatible line and the intended receive mode. PC fax is sending only, and the documented forwarding arrangement is fax-to-fax. Neither establishes that received pages automatically become computer files.

Canon rates one-sided plain Letter printing at twenty-four pages per minute. The eight-thousand-page maximum monthly duty is not a recommended workload. The box identifies a starter Cartridge 128 without an established starter yield; replacement 128 is rated approximately 2,100 pages under the maker’s stated ISO/IEC basis.

The body measures 15.4 by 14.3 by 14.2 inches and weighs 26.2 pounds with cartridge. Leave further access for the feeder, glass and paper path, and provide the specified grounded U.S. 120-volt supply. Confirm the complete native print-and-scan setup before relying on a retained machine.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

24 one-sided plain Letter print ppm, separate from scanner throughput. Maximum 8,000 monthly pages is not a recommended volume. Quiet Mode may slow processing and has media restrictions.

Paper handling

250-sheet generic cassette capacity plus one-sheet multipurpose feeder. Eligible heavier stock reduces quantity. No exact-size capacity map or automatic output duplex is assigned.

Scanning arrangement

35 Letter originals at 80 gsm, one-sided feeder intake through Legal. Glass reaches 215.9 by 297 mm, covering Letter/A4. No automatic input duplex or single-pass route.

Computer and mobile connections

USB and Fast Ethernet are exact MF4770 interfaces. Wi-Fi and duplex functions assigned to other brochure columns are excluded. No native PIN or mobile protocol is inferred.

Supplies and declared yields

Supplied Starter Cartridge 128 identity is confirmed, starter yield unknown. Replacement 128 is approximately 2,100 pages under maker ISO/IEC wording, without a precise standard identified in the read brochure.

Software and support

Exact 6371B030AA four-function configuration. Original guide illustrations use MF4890dw, so depicted extra controls do not establish MF4770 capabilities. Current computer support requires an exact driver check.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact base body 15.4 by 14.3 by 14.2 inches. Weight 26.2 lb with cartridge versus 25.1 without. U.S. guide requires grounded 120 V AC supply and a separately prepared compatible telephone line.
