Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can MF6180dw automatically capture both faces of Legal color originals and print native PIN-held duplex Legal jobs through USB?
Yes, with the supported native driver and MF Toolbox. Select two-sided input and binding for the feeder. Legal intake is 30 originals at 80 gsm. Eligible Legal print duplex and native PIN release are separately documented; physical feeder mechanism remains unspecified.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it print scanned color highlights in color?
No. Its scanner captures color, but the laser output is monochrome.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the standard printer include 800 input sheets?
No. Standard sources total 300 sheets. Reaching 800 requires the separately purchased 500-sheet PF-44 cassette.

The Canon imageCLASS MF6180dw, U.S. item 8482B008AA, provides monochrome printing and copying, color scanning and telephone fax. It is an earlier reference for a supported office that needs both automatic two-sided original capture and native PIN-held printing.
Its read sources establish automatic feeder duplex but do not identify the mechanism as single-pass or reversing. That genuine capability is retained without assigning the faster physical design of a different generation. Color scanning also does not make the print engine produce color pages.
Legal intake is thirty originals, rather than fifty
The operating document table distinguishes fifty Letter originals from thirty Legal originals, with both quantities based on 80 gsm paper. The glass reaches 8.5 by 11¾ inches, covering Letter and A4; complete Legal originals need the feeder.
Duplex originals have a narrower stock range: 64–105 gsm, compared with 50–105 gsm for one-sided capture. Use the glass for suitable books or originals that should not travel through the feeder. A general fifty-sheet headline cannot replace the exact Legal or weight conditions.
MF Toolbox provides a real two-sided computer routine
Install the exact supported MF drivers and MF Toolbox on the computer. USB, Fast Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi support native operation. For LAN scanning, register the scanner in MF Network Scan Utility; the actual guide limits network capture to ten connected computers.
Select Remote Scanner at the device and open MF Toolbox 4.9. Choose a mode such as Save or PDF, select the original source and size, and set Input Method to two-sided for a duplex feeder stack. Specify its binding orientation, color mode and saved-file settings before starting.
This explicit input control establishes the computer duplex workflow. The guide says Mac Toolbox functions differ, so exact Mac controls need the relevant driver guide. It also distinguishes appending to an existing PDF created with MF Toolbox from appending to an arbitrary PDF made elsewhere.
Mail mode uses an installed computer mail application. The separately listed device-to-folder and e-mail sender functions need their own destination preparation. They should not be confused with a Toolbox button or assumed to work simply because ordinary printing succeeds.
Secure Print has a configurable collection period
Enable Secure Print as instructed, choose its deletion interval and restart the machine for the setting to take effect. The documented interval is ten to 240 minutes. This is temporary job retention, rather than an unlimited archive.
In the supported native driver choose Secured Print in Output Method and provide a username and PIN. At the device leave Remote Scanner, press Secure Print, select the user and document, then enter its matching PIN. The guide permits up to seven digits.
Held documents use memory and can prevent other jobs from printing. Collect or clear them promptly. The exact MF6180dw language list includes UFR II LT, PCL and PostScript emulation; the neighboring MF6160dw column does not include that last language.
Standard input is three hundred sheets
The included sources are a 250-sheet drawer and fifty-sheet multipurpose tray. The optional five-hundred-sheet PF-44 cassette raises the total to eight hundred, but it is not supplied as standard. This review keeps the generic capacity separate from an unverified exact-size stack quantity.
The operating paper table confirms Letter, Legal and A4 for automatic output duplex. Eligible heavy stock extends through 128 gsm; the heavier category uses different input limits. Envelopes use the multipurpose tray, five at a time, and are not automatic-duplex stock.
AirPrint is documented on the same network as the compatible iOS device. The U.S. brochure explicitly excludes a printer attached by USB to a computer, AirPort base station or Time Capsule from that arrangement. Native USB scanning therefore cannot be combined with a borrowed network mobile feature.
Speed, supplies and placement
Canon declares up to 35 one-sided plain Letter ppm, with a separate seventeen-page duplex rate. That is not seventeen two-sided physical sheets. The fifty-thousand-page maximum monthly duty is not a recommended continuous workload.
The supplied Cartridge 119 and standard replacement are rated for 2,100 pages; 119 II is rated for 6,400. The actual basis is ISO/IEC 19752 on A4 at default density. The body measures 15⅜ by 18⅝ by seventeen inches and weighs 42.1 lb with toner. Allow additional space for paper loading, feeder access and servicing.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Up to 35 one-sided plain Letter pages per minute; 17 duplex Letter pages per minute is separate from physical two-sided sheets. Scanner rates have their own Letter/300 dpi basis.
Paper handling
Included generic input: 250 drawer plus 50 multipurpose sheets, totaling 300. Optional PF-44 500 excluded. Eligible Letter/Legal/A4 duplex uses listed plain, recycled, color and heavy stock through 128 gsm. Multipurpose envelopes are limited to five.
Scanning arrangement
Automatic duplex original capture has an unspecified mechanism. At 80 gsm, feeder quantity is 50 Letter or 30 Legal originals. Glass reaches 8.5 × 11¾ inches. Duplex originals require 64–105 gsm, versus 50–105 gsm simplex.
Computer and mobile connections
USB, Fast Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi support native operation. Exact MF6180 supports UFR II LT, PCL 5e/XL and PostScript emulation. Same-network AirPrint excludes USB computer-sharing and base-station print-server arrangements.
Supplies and declared yields
Supplied 119 and standard replacement: approximately 2,100 pages. Replacement 119 II: 6,400 under ISO/IEC 19752 using A4 and default density. Coverage, stock and environment affect actual yield.
Software and support
MF Toolbox documents one-/two-sided input, color, size, binding and file controls. Native Secure Print uses a PIN up to seven digits and configurable 10–240-minute retention. A 50,000-page maximum duty is not a recommended monthly range.
Electrical edition and setup
Closed body: 15⅜ × 18⅝ × 17 inches; 42.1 lb including toner, versus 40.3 lb without. U.S. power: 120–127 V, 60 Hz. Optional drawer increases height and requires additional clearance.
