1250cIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible USB computer routine making modest amounts of color documents, where manual two-sided paper handling is acceptable.

The main tradeoff

No network interface, scanner or automatic duplex. Check current drivers and supplies; the 30000-page duty ceiling is separate from the recommended workload.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the low-voltage 1250c provide USB color printing at a 400-page monthly workload?

Yes. USB color printing is documented, and 400 pages is within the recommended 150–500 monthly range.

Does manual Windows duplex satisfy an automatic-duplex requirement?

No. The documented routine requires user reloading and is not an automatic duplex mechanism.

Does its 30000-page duty ceiling qualify a regular 5000-page month?

No. The recommended monthly maximum is 500 pages; maximum duty is a separate figure.

A small USB color printer for modest document output

The Dell 1250c is an earlier color LED printer whose useful role is occasional computer-based color output in a limited space. It is a dedicated printer, with a 150-sheet input and a USB connection. It does not include a scanner, copier, fax, Ethernet interface or wireless network arrangement.

The original specification described it as unusually compact for its period. That historical comparison is not a present-day smallest-printer claim. The relevant question now is whether its actual body, manual paper handling and current computer support fit the work you need to do.

Color output is confirmed, but automatic duplex is not

The US specification declares up to 12 pages per minute in monochrome and 10 in color on Letter paper. These are manufacturer one-sided rates, not our timed test results or complete application-job measurements. A color page and a black-only page have different declared rates.

Two-sided output is manual. The original document specifically assigns the manual-duplex feature to the Windows driver, requiring a compatible computer workflow and user reloading. It should not qualify for a questionnaire answer that requires printing both sides automatically. Booklet and poster functions are also identified as Windows-driver features rather than universal hardware capabilities.

The recommended workload is much smaller than the maximum duty

Dell gives a recommended monthly range of 150–500 pages and a separate maximum duty cycle of 30,000 pages. The recommendation is the useful figure for judging a regular workload. The much larger maximum does not make this a confirmed choice for sustained 5,000- or 30,000-page months.

The 150-sheet input and 100-sheet output also describe a modest paper routine. No extra input capacity is listed. A buyer who needs larger unattended batches should compare a model with the required included input arrangement rather than assuming that an accessory drawer can be added.

USB is the complete documented connection choice

The original specification lists high-speed USB 2.0 and explicitly says that wireless and network printing are unavailable on the 1250c. It points network buyers to the separate 1350cnw. That distinction should remain visible when comparing similarly sized Dell color printers.

The 1250c uses host-based GDI printing. Its historical Windows and Mac support list cannot establish that today's computer has a suitable driver. Check the actual operating system, available driver and application workflow before choosing an older USB model. A computer's sharing feature would be a separate arrangement, not a built-in Ethernet or Wi-Fi interface.

Paper flexibility has specific handling conditions

Letter, Legal and A4 are named alongside supported envelope formats and other media. Match the selected paper type, size and loading directions in the operating instructions. Support for an envelope or coated sheet does not mean every weight, construction or duplex routine is suitable.

The ordinary-paper input remains 150 sheets regardless of a long supported-media list. There is no original feeder because there is no scanner. A color LED print engine should not be confused with color scanning, and a software utility cannot add that missing physical function.

Measure the printer body and check supplies separately

The documented body is 15.5×11.8×8.9 inches and 23.1lb. Those are different from the shipping-carton dimensions and weight. Leave additional room for paper, the USB cable, ventilation and servicing, and check the actual rating label: the 100/120V edition accepts 100–127V, while the separately listed 230V version is different.

Dell declares 700-page ship-with cartridges for black and each color, with higher-capacity replacements declared at 2,000 black and 1,400 color pages. Those figures do not establish remaining toner, present supply availability or today's price per page. The 1250c is best considered when its modest recommended workload, USB setup and manual duplex are acceptable; choose a different printer when automatic duplex, scanning or network access is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared one-sided Letter rates are 12 ppm monochrome and 10 ppm color. Manual duplex requires user reloading.

Paper handling

Included input is 150 sheets, with a separate 100-sheet output limit. Supported Letter, Legal, A4 and envelopes require the appropriate settings. Duplex is manual and Windows-driver-only.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only color LED model, without scanner, feeder, copy or fax hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB 2.0 is the only included connection. The original specification explicitly excludes network and wireless printing.

Supplies and declared yields

Original toner yields are declarations under the maker’s usage conditions. Printer-life drum/fuser language does not establish unlimited life, remaining supplies or current page cost.

Software and support

Host-based GDI printing with 64 MB memory and no listed expansion. Check the actual computer driver; manual duplex, poster and booklet controls are Windows-only.

Electrical edition and setup

Printer body: 15.5 × 11.8 × 8.9 inches, 23.1 lb. The reviewed 100/120 V edition accepts 100–127 V and differs from the 230 V edition. Allow paper, USB, ventilation and service access.
