2130cn (US 110–127V ordinary configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

Compatible USB or Ethernet color output where the ordinary print-only configuration is sufficient.

The main tradeoff

Automatic duplex, extra paper, wireless and stored PIN workflows depend on verified options.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible Ethernet computer print color Legal sheets with 251 confirmed ordinary-paper positions in the included configuration?

Yes. The actual media table supports Legal in the 250-sheet drawer and single-sheet feeder.

Does the ordinary 2130cn include automatic duplex without a fitted accessory?

No. Dell places the physical duplexer in the optional-module chapter and requires its installation and recognition.

Does the standard 256 MB arrangement establish held-job PIN release?

No. The actual Print and Hold routine specifies additional memory and enabled RAM disk; that option configuration is not assumed included.

A color printer whose options change the decision

The Dell 2130cn is an earlier single-function color laser printer for a compatible wired desktop or office network. Its useful ordinary role is color output through USB or Ethernet, with a bulk paper drawer and a separate individual feed. Several attractive features in its guide require optional hardware and are not part of the base arrangement reviewed here.

Check the actual model label. The similarly named 2135cn is a multifunction machine, while the 2130cn has no scanner, copier, document feeder or fax. A shared-looking cabinet or search description should not substitute for the exact identity.

Count the included paper hardware

The ordinary drawer holds 250 suitable sheets, and the separate single-sheet feeder handles one insertion. The operating table explicitly supports Letter, Legal and A4 in both. That gives 251 ordinary-paper positions without assuming the optional extra drawer is installed.

The second 250-sheet drawer is an addition. Dell's installation chapter tells the user to verify it on a printer settings page and update the driver after fitting it. A pictured lower drawer or a driver option alone does not prove the hardware accompanies a particular earlier unit.

Envelopes have source-specific loading and orientation instructions. Select the correct size and type, use suitable construction and test the actual envelope. Special stock should not be treated as an ordinary full drawer simply because its nominal size is listed.

Automatic duplex is an installed option

Dell documents a physical duplex unit that is fitted inside the front cover. The guide explicitly places it among the optional modules, then requires confirmation that it appears in the printer's installed options. This is a different question from whether a two-sided menu exists.

The ordinary configuration assessed here therefore does not meet an included automatic-duplex requirement. If an actual unit has the accessory, verify its installation, recognized driver setting and approved media as one complete arrangement before relying on unattended packets.

Printing the settings page is useful because it checks the machine's recognized configuration. The driver must also be updated where required, including network client computers. A functioning one-sided queue does not prove that every client can select an installed accessory correctly.

Stored PIN jobs need additional memory

The guide describes Secure Print: a computer submits a password-protected job, and the user enters its numeric password at the printer to release it. The same guide imposes memory and RAM-disk prerequisites, so the existence of that chapter is not an unconditional base-model promise.

The standard memory declaration is 256MB. The actual Print and Hold section specifies at least 768MB, with RAM disk configured in both the printer and driver. Check the installed memory and actual held-job routine if collection security is essential.

An administrative panel lock serves a different purpose. It restricts settings changes and does not establish that confidential document pages wait for a collection code. Temporary held storage also clears when power is removed, so keep the source file.

Use a compatible ordinary wired connection

USB and 10/100 Ethernet are included. Wireless requires an optional adapter. The guide's older ad hoc wireless instructions do not establish Wi-Fi Direct or a native mobile printing service.

Verify a current working driver and representative documents from the intended applications. Historic operating-system support does not promise an identical setup on every current computer. The print-only hardware cannot capture paperwork through either cable.

Inspect the full earlier configuration

Check the regional electrical label, all supplies and maintenance condition, with room for loading and service. Choose the 2130cn when its proven wired color output is sufficient, and verify any duplex, memory or wireless upgrades separately.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The read exact operating sections establish configuration and media, but not an exact Letter one-sided ppm or maker recommended monthly interval. Preserved earlier speed leads are not promoted without their supporting original section.

Paper handling

Included input is a 250-sheet ordinary drawer plus one single-sheet feeder. Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported in both. The separate extra 250-sheet drawer and automatic duplexer are optional, so neither is assumed installed. Suitable envelopes have source-specific loading and orientation instructions.

Scanning arrangement

The exact 2130cn is a single-function color laser printer without document capture, a flatbed, ADF, copier or fax. It does not borrow the similarly named 2135cn MFP’s scanner.

Computer and mobile connections

Included computer connections are USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet. Wireless 802.11b/g hardware requires an optional adapter and is excluded from the ordinary plan. Historic ad hoc wireless setup is not Wi-Fi Direct.

Supplies and declared yields

The printer uses toner cartridges and a separate print-head device. Inspect the actual supplies, feeding and maintenance condition before choosing an earlier unit. No remaining yield or complete current supply bundle is inferred from its historical parts list.

Software and support

Use a compatible actual PCL desktop driver. The guide documents automatic duplex only with its optional unit installed and recognized by the driver. Secure Print needs optional additional memory and enabled RAM disk; the base memory is 256 MB, while the actual Print and Hold section specifies at least768 MB. Ordinary PIN release is not promised. Administrative panel locks are separate from held-document passwords.

Electrical edition and setup

Scope is the documented US 110–127 VAC edition after checking the label. The closed cabinet is 400 × 406 × 413 mm, about 15.75 × 15.98 × 16.26 inches. The guide’s 16.3 kg weight excludes toner and the print-head device, so no full loaded-weight fit is assigned. Allow extended tray, output, cable and service clearance.
