The Dell 2155cn combines color laser printing, copying, computer scanning and fax in an earlier office machine. Its useful role is a wired document station that can handle color output and batches of suitable originals. The main compromise is attended two-sided printing: this exact cn configuration has no automatic print duplexer.
That distinction is explicit in Dell's operating instructions. The adjacent 2155cdn has the automatic routine; the 2155cn uses a manual routine. A broad family listing or an abbreviated specification row should not erase that hardware difference.
Choose a complete USB or Ethernet workflow
The rear USB computer interface and Gigabit Ethernet are included. A compatible desktop driver can provide printing on either connection. For capture, the guide positively supports TWAIN over both USB and a network connection, with suitable scanning software.
The panel's Scan to Application command is more restricted: Dell specifies a USB-connected computer and the ScanButton Manager. A network installation can instead use its documented TWAIN or configured network-destination workflow. Check the actual computer, credentials, destination folder and application together before relying on an old installation.
Wireless networking requires an optional adapter. Its socket does not establish that the adapter is present. The front USB memory facility is also a separate route from the rear computer connection; plugging in a memory device does not prove a computer scanning bridge.
Legal originals belong in the feeder
The automatic document feeder holds up to 35 suitable ordinary originals. Its documented dimensions accommodate Letter, A4 and Legal. It is useful for a stack of loose records after removing staples and rejecting damaged, coated or otherwise unsuitable sheets.
The document glass has a shorter documented scanning length of 297mm. It accommodates Letter and A4, but a complete fourteen-inch Legal original needs the feeder. A Legal print setting cannot enlarge the glass. Use the glass for an appropriate single item when the original needs individual positioning.
The reviewed evidence establishes normal feeder capture and color scanning. It does not establish automatic two-sided feeder scanning or single-pass mechanics, so neither is promised. Plan a deliberate process for originals with information on both sides.
The ordinary input has two different jobs
The included 250-sheet drawer provides bulk ordinary-paper input, while the separate single-sheet feeder handles an individual insertion. Both explicitly support Letter, Legal and A4. The additional 250-sheet drawer is optional and should be counted only after physically checking the unit.
For manual duplex, the operating guide specifies the PCL 6 driver and a drawer source. The first set of printed pages must be moved back into the drawer in the instructed orientation, followed by confirmation at the printer. The single-sheet feeder and automatic source choice do not substitute for that routine.
Try a short two-sided sample before a long packet. Layout choices such as long-edge binding describe the finished page arrangement; they do not create an automatic duplex mechanism.
Check the configuration behind security claims
Dell documents stored Secure Print with numeric release at the panel. The same chapter requires an optional memory module, RAM-disk configuration and the PCL driver. An ordinary unverified unit therefore does not receive an unconditional PIN-printing promise in this assessment.
The maker's one-sided Letter speed declaration is separate from actual job timing. Its maximum-duty figure is also separate from a recommended sustained workload. Check supplies and maintenance condition rather than treating either headline as a guarantee for an earlier machine.
Inspect the whole installation
Confirm the electrical label, measure the actual cabinet and allow paper, scanner-cover and service access. Choose the 2155cn when its proven wired color workflow is sufficient and manual duplex is acceptable.

Print-rate conditions
Dell declares up to 24 one-sided Letter ppm in black or color. The 40,000-page maximum duty and a separately labelled typical-use interval are not a confirmed recommended monthly volume.
Paper handling
Included input is a 250-sheet ordinary-paper drawer plus one single-sheet feeder. Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported in both. The optional second 250-sheet drawer is excluded. The exact cn has manual PCL 6 duplex handling, with a drawer reload; automatic duplex is reserved for 2155cdn.
Scanning arrangement
The 35-sheet feeder accepts suitable unbound originals through Legal length. The glass is limited to 297 mm length and 215.9 mm width, supporting Letter and A4 rather than a full Legal original. TWAIN supports computer scanning over USB and the network. Automatic feeder duplex and single-pass mechanics are not established.
