5130cdn (US 110V base configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible shared wired office needing color document output with paper capture handled separately.

The main tradeoff

Wireless and expanded paper hardware are optional, and the base printer has no scanner or native AirPrint.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can compatible Ethernet combine color Legal duplex, 550 confirmed main-tray positions and a 47 ppm one-sided Letter declaration?

Yes. The exact brochure separately confirms Legal main-tray support, its 550-sheet capacity, an ordinary duplex size range covering Legal and the 47 ppm Letter color declaration.

Does the base 5130cdn include Wi-Fi because a wireless port is listed?

No. That port requires the optional adapter; the base reviewed computer connections are USB or Ethernet.

Can the printer scan incoming color pages to the computer?

No. This is a single-function color output printer without document-scanning hardware.

A color output station for a shared wired queue

The Dell 5130cdn is an earlier color laser printer for an office that needs substantial document output and already handles paper capture elsewhere. Its useful combination is included automatic duplex, Gigabit Ethernet and a main paper drawer backed by a multipurpose feed. It is a printing machine rather than a scanner, copier or fax station.

The deciding tradeoff is the installed configuration. Dell describes extensive paper, finishing, storage and wireless options. Those can change the work the machine supports, but they should not be assumed to accompany every ordinary 5130cdn.

Read the paper system as two included feeds

The base input consists of a 550-sheet main drawer and a 150-sheet multipurpose tray. That is a useful supply for a shared queue, with a separate place for an instructed alternate-media job. It is different from the much larger maximum associated with optional additional feeders.

The main-tray specification explicitly lists Letter, Legal and A4. Keep the loaded size and media settings aligned with the job, especially when several people use the same printer. An expanded arrangement with additional drawers can reduce stock changes, but its actual hardware and driver configuration need inspection.

The duplex specification gives a separate ordinary-media range that accommodates those three sizes. It is not a permission to duplex every envelope or special material accepted elsewhere. Use the correct driver binding choice and verify a short sample before a long two-sided run.

The included network is wired

Gigabit Ethernet provides the documented shared computer-printing route. USB provides a direct computer connection, and a parallel interface is also listed. The printer's USB host connection has a separate font-memory role; it should not be confused with the rear computer device port.

A wireless port is present for the optional adapter. That socket and the original wireless-setup utility do not make Wi-Fi part of the base configuration. Dell also states that Ethernet mode is disabled while the optional wireless mode is being used, so the two arrangements should not be combined casually.

The original language support includes PCL emulations and Adobe PostScript. Test the intended applications with an actual compatible driver on the current computer. Historical operating-system support and network discovery names do not establish every modern software combination.

Keep mobile and confidential jobs specific

The exact family table marks AirPrint as unavailable. Bonjour in a management list does not override that declaration. A phone-printing plan therefore needs its own verified software route instead of assuming native AirPrint.

The optional hard drive is associated with stored, secure and proof-printing functions. Before choosing the printer for confidential jobs, establish the actual storage, compatible driver controls and collection procedure. This review does not treat a generic security feature or an administrator login as proof of included PIN-held printing.

Rated throughput is separate from condition

Dell declares up to 47 one-sided Letter pages per minute in both color and monochrome, and a separate duplex rate. These are original maker declarations rather than measurements performed for this assessment. Short jobs, complex files and unusual stock can differ from a continuous rated run.

The maximum monthly-duty figure is also not a documented recommended recurring volume. Inspect an earlier machine's feeding, maintenance condition and representative output before relying on its historical performance headline.

Plan supplies and space around the actual unit

Identify the toner installed, distinguishing shipped and standard cartridges from higher-capacity replacements. An earlier offer does not automatically include a fresh full set.

The base printer weighs about 99 pounds before the effects of optional furniture and paper expansion. Confirm its electrical edition, safe placement and operating access. Choose the 5130cdn when a verified wired color-printing setup and included ordinary duplex meet the work, with scanning handled separately.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact US brochure declares up to 47 one-sided Letter ppm in both color and monochrome, with a separate 37.6 ppm Letter duplex declaration. These are maker specifications, not measured results. Its 110,000-page maximum duty is not a recommended monthly range; no stronger workload recommendation is inferred.

Paper handling

Included input is a 550-sheet main drawer plus 150-sheet multipurpose tray, for 700 ordinary-paper positions. The exact main-tray row lists Letter, Legal and A4; exact-size matching conservatively counts those 550 positions. The separate duplex range is 5.5–8.5 inches wide and 8.3–14 inches long at 60–163 gsm, supporting those three ordinary sizes. Envelopes have their own accepted feed/material routine and are not duplexed. Expanded 2,900-sheet capacity requires optional feeders.

Scanning arrangement

The 5130cdn is a single-function color printer, without a document scanner, copier, fax or automatic document feeder. A generic marketing sentence mentioning copy is not used to override the exact Print-only family category and hardware specification.

Computer and mobile connections

Included rear USB 2.0 Type-B computer interface, Gigabit Ethernet and parallel port. The host USB port is for font memory and is not substituted for the computer port. A wireless port requires its optional adapter; no Wi-Fi plan is counted in the base configuration. The brochure says Ethernet mode is disabled when optional wireless mode is in use.

Supplies and declared yields

Original shipped/standard toner declarations are 9,000 pages black and 6,000 pages per CMY color; high-capacity replacements are 18,000 black and 12,000 per CMY color under ISO/IEC 19798. Inspect the actual cartridges and machine condition rather than assuming a full high-capacity set accompanies an earlier unit. No current price or page-cost calculation is inferred.

Software and support

The original table lists PCL emulations and Adobe PostScript 3, with compatible desktop software required. Test representative application output on the intended current system. The family table explicitly says no AirPrint; Bonjour management discovery does not override that. Optional 80 GB storage is associated with stored/secure/proof jobs, but included PIN-release prerequisites are unestablished here.

Electrical edition and setup

Scope is the brochure’s 110 VAC regional model with 99–141 VAC declared input, distinct from the 230 VAC/198–264 VAC edition. Check the actual rating label. The base printer is 22.1 × 20.0 × 17.0 inches and 99 lb; optional feeders, stand and finisher materially change space and handling requirements. Allow loading, output and service clearance.
