B1160 (US 110–127V base configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible local computer desk needing black-and-white printing with separate document capture.

The main tradeoff

Wireless belongs to B1160w; this base model also lacks scanning and automatic print duplex.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible USB computer print monochrome Legal sheets with 150 confirmed ordinary-paper positions and a 21 ppm Letter declaration?

Yes. The exact base model supports USB, and the operating table separately establishes Legal ordinary-paper capacity. Current driver operation and the unit’s regional rating still need verification.

Does the base B1160 include the wireless features described in the shared guide?

No. The original model table assigns those features to B1160w. This B1160 plan uses USB.

Can this model capture paperwork to the computer through its USB cable?

No. It is a single-function printer without document-scanning hardware.

A local monochrome printer with a narrow job

The Dell B1160 is an earlier single-function laser printer for a compatible computer desk. Its useful role is straightforward black-and-white output over USB, with a small cabinet and an ordinary paper tray. Its main tradeoff is the limited arrangement: there is no included networking, scanning or automatic two-sided printing.

This is the base B1160, rather than the B1160w. Dell's shared documentation assigns wireless networking to the w model. Confirm the exact label before treating a family description, a network-software reference or a photograph as evidence that wireless hardware is included.

Begin with the computer that will use it

USB is the reviewed computer connection. Position the printer where the cable, power and paper access work together, then establish a compatible driver for the intended operating system. A historical support list does not guarantee that every current computer will install the same features automatically.

Print representative files from the actual applications before committing to the setup. A simple text document, a page with a table and the intended envelope layout can reveal whether the working software arrangement matches the desk's needs.

The base model does not inherit the B1160w's ordinary wireless network or Wi-Fi Direct routines. A separately purchased external device would create another configuration, requiring its own evidence. It is not part of the ordinary USB printer assessed here.

Count one paper tray

The included tray holds 150 suitable ordinary sheets. The operating table explicitly supports Letter, Legal and A4 within that ordinary-paper capacity. Adjust the guides and match the driver's size and type settings to what is loaded.

The manual-feed setting is a mode of that same physical tray. It does not create a second independent paper position to add to the total. This distinction matters when comparing refill capacity with a printer that has a genuinely separate manual slot or bypass feed.

Suitable envelopes and special stock have their own preparation and loading instructions. The guide recommends individual feeding for special media. Allow time to remove or change everyday stock and select the correct media settings instead of treating every supported material as a full ordinary-paper stack.

Two-sided work needs an attended reload

Dell expressly describes manual double-sided printing. The computer's instructions guide the user through the first set of sides and the reload needed to finish the document. Run a small sample to verify orientation and remain available while the job completes.

Long-edge and short-edge choices control the page layout. They do not provide an automatic sheet-turning unit. For frequent unattended packets or shared jobs that must finish without someone at the printer, included automatic duplex is a more appropriate requirement.

Keep the supply and workload declarations modest

The guide declares up to 21 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately from its A4 figure. That is a maker rating rather than a measurement from this assessment or a guarantee about the first page of a short file.

The maximum monthly-duty figure is also separate from a recommended normal workload. Dell's historical average and typical-use labels should not be enlarged into an unsupported recommendation. Inspect the actual feeding and maintenance condition of an earlier unit.

The shipped-cartridge declaration is smaller than the standard replacement declaration. Identify the toner actually supplied and its remaining condition. A Confidential watermark is simply a printed marking, rather than proof that a sensitive job waits for a collection PIN.

Choose a complete working local setup

Check the regional electrical label and allow room for the open paper feed, output and service access. Choose the B1160 when proven USB monochrome output is enough, with scanning handled elsewhere and manual duplex handling acceptable.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact guide declares up to 21 one-sided Letter ppm and 20 A4. Its 10,000-page maximum monthly duty is separate from a historical average or typical-use figure. No confirmed recommended monthly interval is assigned.

Paper handling

One included 150-sheet ordinary-paper tray supports Letter, Legal and A4. Its manual-feed mode uses the same physical tray, so a one-sheet mode is not added to the input total. Manual two-sided output needs user reloading. Suitable envelopes have their own loading and material instructions; special stock should be individually fed as directed.

Scanning arrangement

This exact base B1160 is a single-function monochrome laser printer. It includes no document scanner, flatbed, feeder, copier or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

The base B1160 computer connection is USB 2.0. The shared guide reserves wireless networking and its related functions for B1160w; no Ethernet or included wireless plan is assigned to B1160. A separate external print server is not assumed to be part of the ordinary unit.

Supplies and declared yields

The original maker brochure declares approximately 700 pages for shipped toner and 1,500 pages for the standard replacement under ISO/IEC 19752. Inspect the actual cartridge and remaining condition. The original lifetime-fuser design wording is not evidence that every earlier machine currently has healthy feeding or fusing components.

Software and support

Use a compatible actual SPL/XPS desktop driver and test the intended applications. The historical operating-system list is not a universal present-day compatibility promise. A Confidential watermark prints text on a page and does not establish jobs held for a collection PIN. The base USB plan does not borrow its sibling’s network management or mobile-printing routes.

Electrical edition and setup

The actual operating guide documents a 110–127 VAC edition separately from 220–240 VAC. Scope is the US low-voltage unit after checking its label. The 331 × 215 × 178 mm body equals about 13.03 × 8.46 × 7.01 inches; the metric width and a second exact family table resolve an inconsistent inch parenthesis in the guide. Loaded weight is 8.82 lb. Allow additional loading, output, cable and service access.
