B1160w (US 110–127V configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wireless computer desk handling modest black-and-white jobs and attended manual duplex.

The main tradeoff

There is no scanner, Ethernet or automatic duplex, and native AirPrint is unavailable.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible ordinary Wi-Fi computer print monochrome Legal documents from 150 confirmed ordinary-sheet positions?

Yes. The exact wireless model and the operating media table support that arrangement, with the proper compatible driver and loaded paper.

Is there a separately documented Wi-Fi Direct mobile-printing route when paper controls are left flexible?

Yes. The actual guide describes enabling Wi-Fi Direct and using a supported mobile printing app. Verify current device/app operation; this does not promise AirPrint or every desktop paper control.

Can the printer automatically finish two-sided packets without someone reloading paper?

No. The original guide and brochure identify manual duplex, with no included automatic duplex unit.

A small wireless printer for attended monochrome work

The Dell B1160w is an earlier single-function laser printer for black-and-white documents. Its useful feature is included Wi-Fi alongside USB in a small cabinet. Its main tradeoff is manual two-sided printing: someone must handle and reload the paper instead of waiting for an automatic duplex unit to finish the packet.

The final w matters. The related B1160 is the local USB model, while the B1160w has the documented wireless interface. Neither model gains a scanner, copier or fax from the software bundle or from appearing beside multifunction printers in a family brochure.

Ordinary Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct are separate arrangements

The ordinary wireless setup joins the printer to the office or home network. Dell documents router-based setup and compatible network computer printing. Establish the actual network name, security settings and working driver before expecting several computers to use the queue.

The guide also provides a distinct Wi-Fi Direct setup for a supported mobile device. It needs deliberate activation through the documented settings and a working mobile printing application. That is more specific than assuming that ordinary Wi-Fi automatically means a direct phone connection.

This earlier mobile route should be verified with the intended device and software. The family table explicitly marks AirPrint as unavailable. WPS registration and its network PIN also do not establish confidential print jobs held for collection.

One tray carries ordinary paper and exceptions

The standard supply is 150 suitable ordinary sheets. Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported in the operating capacity table. Manual feeding uses the same tray, so a one-sheet manual mode is not another independent feeder to add to the total.

Suitable envelopes and other special materials have their own loading and media settings. The guide recommends feeding special stock individually. Allow time to switch the paper and set the correct type instead of treating every accepted material as a full ordinary-paper stack.

The direct-mobile route does not independently establish every desktop-driver paper and envelope control. Check those choices in the actual application when they matter, rather than borrowing the desktop driver's complete menu into a phone workflow.

Two-sided documents require paper handling

The documented print routine is manual duplex. The printer produces the first set of sides, then the computer provides instructions to complete the job. The user must reload the stack in the correct orientation.

Try a short sample before a large packet and remain available for the reload. Binding direction and booklet options describe layout, not an automatic sheet-turning mechanism. If nobody can attend the job, an included automatic-duplex printer is a more appropriate requirement.

Read performance and supplies without enlarging the claims

The guide declares up to 21 one-sided Letter pages per minute, with a separate A4 figure. These are maker declarations, not measurements from this assessment. The maximum monthly-duty figure is different from the source's historical average or typical-use labels.

The shipped toner declaration is smaller than the standard replacement declaration. Identify the cartridge actually supplied and inspect its remaining condition. An original lifetime-component design statement does not establish the present condition of an earlier machine.

Choose the complete working setup

Confirm that compatible software can print the intended documents over the selected connection. Measure room for the open paper feed and output as well as the small closed cabinet, and check the actual regional electrical label.

The B1160w is most useful when modest monochrome jobs, an established wireless setup and attended paper handling fit the desk's work. It should not be selected to fill missing scanning or automatic duplex functions.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The actual guide declares up to 21 one-sided Letter ppm or 20 A4. The 10,000-page maximum duty is separate from historical average and typical-use figures, neither of which is converted into a maker-recommended monthly interval.

Paper handling

One 150-sheet ordinary-paper tray supports Letter, Legal and A4 in the actual merged capacity table. Manual feeding uses that same tray; its one-sheet mode is not another independent input position. Ordinary print duplex is manual with instructed reloading. Suitable envelopes can be fed using the specified orientation and material limits; the guide recommends individual feeding for special stock.

Scanning arrangement

The exact B1160w is a single-function monochrome laser printer without a document scanner, ADF, copying or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

USB 2.0 and 802.11b/g/n ordinary Wi-Fi are documented for B1160w; no Ethernet socket is included. The guide separately documents enabling Wi-Fi Direct through Printer Manager and using a supported mobile printing application. That distinct direct-mobile plan does not establish ordinary driver paper choices, envelope controls or current native mobile-protocol support.

Supplies and declared yields

Original declarations distinguish approximately 700-page shipped toner from a 1,500-page standard replacement under ISO/IEC 19752. Inspect the actual cartridge and condition. A brochure’s lifetime-fuser design claim does not establish that an earlier unit’s feed mechanism or fuser is currently healthy.

Software and support

Use an actual compatible SPL/XPS desktop driver for the USB or ordinary-network plan. The family table explicitly marks AirPrint unavailable. WPS PIN is network registration, not confidential-job release. Wi-Fi Direct needs deliberate setup and a working mobile application; the historical Dell app reference is not a promise that every current phone or app store supports it.

Electrical edition and setup

The actual operating guide establishes a 110–127 VAC regional edition, distinct from 220–240 VAC. This review scopes the US low-voltage unit and requires checking its label. Body 331 × 215 × 178 mm corresponds to 13.03 × 8.46 × 7.01 inches, independently corroborated by the family table; the guide’s 14.96-inch width parenthesis conflicts with its metric width and is not used. Loaded weight is 8.82 lb. Allow open-tray, output and service access.
