C1765nfw (US 110–127V configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible small office needing network color documents, one-sided batch capture and analog fax.

The main tradeoff

Automatic duplex is absent, the feeder scans one side, and the exact model does not offer native AirPrint.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can configured Wi-Fi combine color Legal printing, one-sided Legal feeder capture, all four document functions and a 1,000-page recommended monthly maximum?

Yes, using the compatible network WSD or SMB/FTP capture arrangement and the analog fax line. This does not borrow the USB-only application path or require two-sided scanning.

Can the printer automatically turn ordinary sheets for two-sided printing?

No. The documented print routine requires reloading the first printed stack, with driver restrictions.

Does included Wi-Fi also provide native AirPrint?

No. Dell’s exact C1765nfw family-table column explicitly marks AirPrint unavailable; historical Dell mobile apps are a separate route.

Wireless color documents with a modest feeder

The Dell C1765nfw is an earlier color LED multifunction printer for a small office that needs printing, electronic capture, copying and analog fax. Its useful distinction from the C1765nf is included Wi-Fi, alongside USB and Ethernet. The main limitation is that neither two-sided printing nor two-sided feeder scanning is automatic.

That makes it a better fit for short color documents and small batches of one-sided originals than for unattended duplex packets. Decide how often staff will need to reload paper or turn originals before choosing it for its wireless convenience.

Network scanning needs the right route

The shared guide documents several scanning methods with different connection requirements. USB application capture uses configured ScanButton Manager software. The WIA procedure is USB-only, and the illustrated TWAIN routine specifies an Ethernet or USB cable.

Separate WSD and network-folder routines provide network computer capture. A configured shared folder needs its actual destination, account and permissions; a supported WSD computer needs the corresponding connection setup. The reviewed Wi-Fi arrangement uses these documented network routes instead of assuming that every USB scanning application works wirelessly.

Test a representative document into the intended application or folder. Printing successfully over Wi-Fi is useful evidence about printing, but it does not prove that the receiving scan destination has been configured.

Keep the glass and the feeder distinct

The automatic document feeder holds up to 15 suitable ordinary originals. Its longer document path accommodates Legal as well as Letter and A4. The flatbed is a separate Letter/A4 route; the longer feeder limit does not expand the glass.

Dell's scanner specification explicitly describes one-sided feeder scanning. A two-sided original consequently requires additional handling. That limitation is independent of color capture, which the machine supports, and of the print driver's separate manual two-sided feature.

Use the glass for suitable single originals that should not travel through the feeder. Follow the preparation instructions for loose batches, avoiding damaged sheets, staples and unsuitable materials that can cause misfeeds.

The paper supply suits attended work

The ordinary input consists of a 150-sheet main feed and a ten-sheet priority inserter. The smaller path is useful for a short alternate-stock job; it is not another full paper drawer. Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported normal sizes.

For a shared desk, agree who reloads the feed and who collects long jobs. A small alternate-stock path helps occasional exceptions, while frequent paper changes can interrupt other people’s work.

Suitable envelopes have their own loading orientation and media settings. For ordinary two-sided pages, the documented routine requires moving the first printed stack back into the feed. The original brochure also qualifies its manual duplex layout option by driver, so verify the actual computer arrangement.

Check software and supplies as part of the purchase

The printer uses a host-based system, making a working compatible driver important. The guide also distinguishes the licensed PaperPort disc from downloadable support material. Do not assume that an earlier machine includes every original software disc, license or working application.

The exact family table marks AirPrint as unavailable. A historical Dell mobile-app reference is a different route and should not be treated as a present-day native phone-printing guarantee.

Use the recommended volume and the exact variant

The model-specific brochure recommends 350–1,000 pages monthly. Its maximum duty and rated output speeds are separate declarations, not results measured for this assessment. Compare the normal workload with that recommendation and inspect the actual toner and paper-handling condition.

Finally, confirm the regional rating and leave room for the extended feed and scanner lid. Choose the C1765nfw when its verified network capture and attended color-document routine meet the office's work.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The model-specific original brochure declares up to 15 one-sided Letter/A4 ppm in monochrome and 12 in color, plus a separately stated recommended monthly volume of 350–1,000 pages. Its 30,000-page maximum duty is a different figure. The later family table uses a typical-use label and is not used to replace the explicit recommendation.

Paper handling

The included 150-sheet MPF and 10-sheet priority inserter provide 160 ordinary-paper positions. Exact-size matching conservatively counts the 150-sheet main feed, which expressly supports Letter, Legal and A4. Suitable envelopes have separate loading instructions. Two-sided printing is manual and the stack must be reloaded; the model-specific brochure qualifies that layout option as Windows-driver only.

Scanning arrangement

The included 15-sheet ADF scans one side of each original. Letter, Legal and A4 fit its documented route. The flatbed supports Letter/A4 with 297 mm effective length, not Legal. Actual scanner specifications explicitly say one-side feeder scanning, independently of the manual print-duplex routine. Color capture is documented.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact nfw adds 2.4GHz 802.11b/g Wi-Fi to USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet. USB application capture uses ScanButton Manager; WIA is USB-only and the documented TWAIN procedure specifies Ethernet or USB. The separate network WSD and SMB/FTP destination routines support configured network capture; the Wi-Fi plan uses those network routines rather than borrowing the USB application path. Analog fax requires the appropriate telephone line.

Supplies and declared yields

The original brochure declares 700-page shipped and standard black/CMY cartridges, plus 2,000-page high-capacity black and 1,400-page high-capacity CMY replacements under ISO/IEC 19798. Inspect the cartridges and remaining condition actually supplied; no current toner price or page cost is inferred.

Software and support

The print system is host-based, requiring a compatible actual driver. Check the intended current computer and applications. The original guide says licensed PaperPort is supplied on its disc and is not downloadable from Dell support; inspect software and license availability rather than assuming a used unit supplies them. The family table explicitly marks AirPrint unavailable. Function passwords and secure-fax receive do not establish held-job PIN printing.

Electrical edition and setup

The original guide documents the 110–127 VAC regional edition separately from 220–240 VAC. This assessment scopes the US low-voltage unit; check the label. Exact nfw body dimensions 410 × 379 × 338 mm are about 16.14 × 14.92 × 13.31 inches, with 32.85 lb toner-included weight. Use the later exact-variant manual rather than the brochure’s inconsistent shared weight. Allow open-paper-feed, scanner-lid and service access.
