Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a compatible Ethernet desktop print color Legal sheets, capture Legal originals through the feeder and use configured numeric Secure Print release?
Yes. Those documented desktop routes can operate together, with RAM Disk enabled and a compatible PCL/PS driver. The feeder captures one side at a time.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the E525w automatically finish two-sided Letter print packets?
No. Print duplex is manual and requires user handling.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the documented Wi-Fi Direct connection also capture documents to the connected computer?
No. The operating guide explicitly limits that connection to printing. Use a supported ordinary connection and its actual scan workflow.
Explore this need in the finder →A small color MFP with attended two-sided work
The Dell E525w combines color printing, copying, scanning and fax in an earlier office MFP. Its useful fit is a compatible small-office workflow with ordinary wired or wireless connections, individual flatbed work and modest batches of single-sided originals. Its main handling compromise is manual print duplex and one-sided feeder capture.
Dell's actual operating guide identifies the printer type as Color Laser. The model's control-panel color LEDs do not establish a different exposure-engine technology. This assessment follows the exact maker declaration rather than borrowing a neighboring model's engine description.
One tray sets the refill rhythm
The included ordinary-paper tray holds 150 sheets and explicitly supports Letter, Legal and A4. There is no separate input position to add to that capacity. Match the panel and driver size and type to the loaded paper.
Envelopes and special materials have lower limits and their own loading instructions. The operation chapter permits five envelopes and one coated sheet in their respective routines. These are distinct from a full ordinary-paper stack, so prepare and test the actual stock.
Two-sided output requires a manual reload through a compatible Windows or Mac driver. A binding option arranges the pages but does not turn the machine into an automatic duplex printer. Frequent unattended packets are a reason to require an actual duplex unit.
Use Legal originals in the feeder
The 15-sheet ADF accepts suitable originals through Legal length. The operating specifications explicitly describe one-side scanning. It can reduce repeated placement for a small stack, but cannot automatically capture the reverse of each sheet.
The flatbed has a shorter 297mm scanning length, supporting Letter and A4 rather than a full Legal original. The Legal print setting cannot enlarge it. Use the glass for an appropriate individually positioned item and preview important edge information.
For double-sided records, establish an attended process and inspect the completed file for page order and missing backs. ID copying is a separate manually positioned routine, not proof of a duplex scanner.
Make the connection prove its capture route
USB, 10/100 Ethernet and ordinary Wi-Fi are included. Dell documents USB application capture and WIA, USB or Ethernet TWAIN, and configured network WSD or SMB/FTP destinations. Choose the routine appropriate to the actual computer connection and software.
A working print queue does not establish a scan destination. Test the receiving application or folder, account permissions and saved file. Historic operating-system support does not guarantee an identical setup on every current computer.
Wi-Fi Direct is explicitly print-only in the operating guide. It permits one connected device and needs compatible printing software. It does not borrow the ordinary network's document-capture functions merely because both connections use radio hardware.
Held desktop jobs and native mobile printing differ
Secure Print is a documented PCL or PostScript-driver routine with RAM Disk enabled. The job carries a user identity and password, remains in memory and is released using the panel's numeric keypad. Verify a representative held job before relying on it for confidential paperwork.
AirPrint and Mopria are separately documented for an ordinary shared network. They do not automatically expose the PCL or PS driver's PIN controls, scanner or exact media settings. Their narrower confirmed printing plans remain separate here.
Stored jobs clear when the printer is turned off. Temporary printer memory is therefore not a document archive. Keep the original file and confirm actual completion when the document matters.
Inspect the earlier unit within a realistic workload
The US sheet's recommended monthly range is separate from maximum duty. Check the regional electrical label, all four toner cartridges and maintenance condition. Choose the E525w when its verified color workflow fits the office and attended two-sided handling is acceptable.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
The guide and US sheet declare up to 18 one-sided Letter/A4 ppm in black or color. The US sheet labels 250–700 pages as recommended monthly volume and 30,000 as maximum duty.
Paper handling
One included 150-sheet ordinary-paper tray supports Letter, Legal and A4. There is no extra input position to add. Two-sided printing is manual with a compatible Windows or Mac driver. Envelopes have their own lower capacity and loading instructions.
Scanning arrangement
A 15-sheet ADF captures one side only, explicitly stated in the operation specifications. It accommodates Letter, Legal and A4 suitable originals. The flatbed is limited to 215.9 × 297 mm, supporting Letter and A4 rather than an entire Legal original. Color capture is supported. Computer capture uses USB WIA/application, USB or Ethernet TWAIN, or a configured ordinary-network WSD/SMB/FTP arrangement.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB 2.0, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi provide ordinary computer connections. The operation guide explicitly limits Wi-Fi Direct to printing, with one connected device and compatible driver or mobile application. No direct-network scanning is borrowed from ordinary networking.
Supplies and declared yields
The exact US sheet declares four 700-page shipped toner cartridges, with 2,000-page black and 1,400-page color replacements under ISO/IEC 19798. Check the actual cartridges and condition. A historical lifetime drum/fuser design description is not proof that an earlier unit needs no inspection or service.
Software and support
Use compatible actual print and scan software. PCL/PS Secure Print is documented with RAM Disk enabled and numeric panel release using the included memory arrangement. AirPrint and Mopria use separate ordinary shared-network printing plans without borrowing PCL/PS PIN release, exact media or computer scanning. Historical cloud integration names do not establish current service operation.
Electrical edition and setup
Scope is the documented US 110–127 VAC edition after checking the label. The guide body is 410 × 398 × 353 mm, about 16.14 × 15.67 × 13.90 inches. Brochure and guide loaded-weight declarations differ, so weight fit remains unknown. Allow tray, document, cover and service access.
