Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can an ordinary Wi-Fi desktop arrangement print duplex Legal sheets and capture both sides of Legal originals with configured PIN release?
Yes, with compatible PCL/PS printing, enabled RAM disk and supported computer capture. The feeder mechanism is not advertised as single-pass.
Explore this need in the finder →Can AirPrint operate through the H815dw Wi-Fi Direct connection?
No. Dell’s exact US sheet explicitly excludes AirPrint and Mopria from Wi-Fi Direct mode. Use an ordinary shared network for those services.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the included configuration be matched confidently to a 350-sheet ordinary input requirement?
No. The brochure and operating chapter disagree about multipurpose capacity; the reviewed plan conservatively establishes 300 sheets from the operation guide. Verify the physical unit before requiring more.
Explore this need in the finder →A monochrome office MFP with several distinct routes
The Dell H815dw combines monochrome laser printing, copying, color scanning and fax. Its practical strengths are included wired and wireless networking, automatic print duplex and a duplex document feeder. It suits an office that can establish the required desktop or mobile workflow, with clear limits around how those routes combine.
This assessment concerns the H815dw. Dell's operating guide also covers a related wired model, so a shared chapter or diagram must be interpreted with the exact model restriction intact.
Choose ordinary networking for AirPrint or Mopria
USB, Gigabit Ethernet and ordinary Wi-Fi are included on this model. The exact US sheet also documents AirPrint and Mopria printing through the shared network. A phone can use that ordinary network even when the printer itself is attached by Ethernet.
Wi-Fi Direct is a different connection. It needs to be enabled and used with compatible printing software. Dell explicitly states that AirPrint and Mopria do not work in Wi-Fi Direct mode. A buyer needing a direct phone connection and a particular native printing service should resolve that combination before choosing this printer.
Historical cloud connectors appear prominently in the original marketing. They do not establish that every named service or account integration still operates. Base the decision on a demonstrated route with the actual device and application.
Computer capture needs its own setup
The operating guide positively documents USB and network computer capture using supported TWAIN or WIA arrangements. The panel's USB computer routine and configured network destinations have different requirements. Test the destination and saved file rather than assuming successful network printing proves capture works too.
The 50-sheet duplex feeder handles suitable loose originals through Legal length. The guide provides an actual two-sided feeder scanning option, establishing automatic capture of both sides. Its read description does not resolve whether the mechanism reverses sheets or captures both sides in one pass.
The glass is separately limited to a 297mm scanning length, accommodating Letter and A4 rather than a complete Legal original. Use the feeder for Legal records, and use the glass when an appropriate original needs individual positioning.
Resolve the paper-capacity discrepancy
The US brochure describes a 250-sheet drawer and a 100-sheet multipurpose feed. The actual loading chapter instead specifies 250 plus 50. This assessment conservatively uses the operating guide's 300-sheet total until the physical feeder and its instructions are verified.
Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported in both ordinary inputs and through the automatic duplex unit with suitable paper. The extra 550-sheet drawer is optional. Envelopes and other special stock have separate media rules rather than inheriting the ordinary-paper limits.
Check a representative duplex packet with the actual driver and binding orientation. The declared one-sided Letter speed is separate from the duplex rate and from the time needed to complete a short job.
Configure PIN release in the desktop driver
Secure Print stores a password-protected job for numeric release at the panel. The guide requires the RAM disk enabled in both the machine and its PCL or PS driver. Submit a sample held job and verify collection before relying on it for confidential paperwork.
The separate AirPrint and Mopria plans do not borrow that desktop-driver PIN function or scanner access. A wireless setup password is also different from a document-release code.
Evaluate the earlier machine as a whole
Check the electrical label, supplies, maintenance condition and working space. The maker's recommended volume is separate from maximum duty. Choose the H815dw when its verified ordinary-network workflow covers the office's real print and capture requirements.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Dell declares up to 40 one-sided Letter ppm, separately from A4 and duplex rates. Its exact US sheet labels 750–4,000 pages as recommended monthly volume and 80,000 as maximum duty.
Paper handling
The actual loading chapter establishes a 250-sheet drawer plus 50-sheet multipurpose feeder, with Letter, Legal and A4 supported in both. The brochure instead describes a 100-sheet multipurpose feed; this assessment conservatively uses the operation guide’s 300-sheet total until the physical configuration is verified. Automatic duplex supports Letter, Legal and A4 on suitable media. The optional 550-sheet drawer is excluded; envelopes use the multipurpose route.
Scanning arrangement
The 50-sheet duplex feeder accepts suitable originals through Legal length. The glass supports Letter and A4 within 215.9 × 297 mm. USB and network TWAIN/WIA capture are explicit, including a real two-sided feeder option. Reversal versus single-pass mechanics remain unestablished.
Computer and mobile connections
This H815dw includes USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n wireless. Wi-Fi Direct is separately enabled and requires compatible printing software. AirPrint and Mopria do not work in Wi-Fi Direct mode, as explicitly stated in the US sheet.
Supplies and declared yields
The US sheet declares 3,000-page shipped and standard toner, 6,000-page high-yield and 9,000-page extra-high-yield choices under ISO/IEC 19752. Drum and fuser are separate maintenance components. Check the actual toner, drum, feeder and service condition rather than assuming the declared yield remains available.
Software and support
The compatible PCL/PS desktop plans provide media, duplex and Secure Print with RAM disk enabled in both printer and driver. Numeric release uses the panel. Computer capture needs the documented driver and software route. Native AirPrint and Mopria are separate ordinary-network printing plans; they do not borrow desktop PIN release or scanner access. Historical cloud connectors and services are not promised as currently operational.
Electrical edition and setup
Scope is the documented 110–127 VAC regional unit after label verification. The closed cabinet is about 17.28 × 17.24 × 19.37 inches and the US brochure loaded weight is 41.89 lb. Allow additional space for loading, scanner-cover movement and service access. The shared guide’s S2815dn restrictions are not assigned to the wireless H815dw.
